o FOUR MEDFORD (OREGON) Annual Cancer Society Tea Held Last Week at Hillcrest Almost 200 guests attended the annual benefit tea given Tues day by the Jackson unit of the American Cancer society, disre garding the cold blustery weather. The tea and hobby show, the fourth to be given by the volunteers of this group, was held at Hillcrest orchards with Mrs. George Schuler as general chairman and Mrs. L. W. Bates, assistant chairman. Pouring during the afternoon were Mrs. A. S. Cummins, Mrs. L. D. Inskeep, Mrs. C. L. Drum mond, Mrs T. M. Daily, Mrs. Charles W. Lemery, Mrs. Edwin R. Durno, Mrs. H. P.Poston, Mrs. Sam Gilbert, Miss Elizabeth Burr, Mrs. B. B. Lowry, Mrs. Orin L. Brown and Mrs. Wilbur -A. Arnold. The tea is marked eacn year by outstanding floral decora tions, and this year the room ar rangements were the work of Mrs. Raymond Miksche and Mrs. Ralph Thompsen. Mrs. Tom Ginn provided the tea table centerpiece, an arrange ment of pink elf roses in a silver and crystal epergne loaned by Brophy's store. The table cloth was green and the pink candles -were in silver candelabra, also loaned by Brophy's store. Collections and hobby dis plays were by Mrs. E. Ronald Rice, Mrs. Otto R. Emig, Mrs. John T. Holmer, Central Point; Mrs. T. R- Greene, Jacksonville; John Crisman, Ashland; Mrs. O. T. Heyerman, Mrs. D. Kirkland "West, Mrs. Harry D. Poston, Mrs. Harry J. Fitzgerald and Mrs. Lawrence W. Buonocore. Eight groups entered the table setting contest, a feature of the tea started last year, and judging was by vote of guests. First place was won by the entry of Kiwan ian Dames. It was arranged by Mrs. Richard Phair who used green ceramic plates made by Mrs. Charles Bottjer and an ecru linen cloth. Winning second place was the entry of Medford Lady Lions, arranged by Mrs. Robert Dames and Mrs. Ernest Kennedy assisted by Mrs. C. El- wood Hedberg. The women used Limoges china to accent a pink and gold color scheme and the centerpiece was of white daisies, pink roses and pink candles. The entry of Medford Garden club, arranged by Mrs. Howard Bush, was of Canton rose medal lion china on a white cutwork cloth and the flowers were pink perfection camellias. Medford branch, American Association of University Women, entered a setting of white and gold Havi land china on white cloth with a flower arrangement of white and gold-colored narcissi and prim- PICADOR ... McClaren and Mrs. A. Manno assisting. Mrs. H. B. Looper and Mrs. A. T. Wattenburg were responsible for the entry of Lady Elks. It was of brown Spode china which dated back to Civil War days, and the flower arrangement was of yellow pansies and brpnife leaves. Chapter CP of the PEO sister hood had a table setting of crys tal on a blue cloth accented fcith pink camellias and pink candles. It was arranged by Mrs. T. M. Garhart and Mrs. Robert Temple. The entry of the Colony club, the work of Mrs. Fitzhugh Brewer, was of Italian pottery and an tique silver centered with an ar rangement of fruit. Medford Jun ior Service league displayed an assortment of silver and crystal pieces under the chairmanship of Mrs. James Henry. Prizes were donated by Bro phy's and Swem's stores, and the latter also donated a camera for color pictures. Medford women ho assisted and served as hostesses tere Mesdames M. L. Vorheis, Earl Lawson, Fred T. Burich, Ralph Thompsen, Lawrence Ellis, B. Brandt Bartels, John S. Day, Dennis Gilchrist, and Russell G. Barnes. Also assisting were Mrs. M. Donald McGeary and Mrs. Rob ert Keeney, Phoenix; Mrs. Earle Jossy and Mrs. Glenn Hale, Eagle Point; Mrs. Harold Thomas, Mrs. Jim Busch, Mrs. Christian P. Hall, Mrs. Daniel G. Engle and Mrs. Mahr Reymer, Ashland. Students to Play For University The Medford Senior High school orchestra will play an invitational concert Tuesday morning at the Willamette uni versity campus. The 69 members with their director, John Drys dale, and chaperones will leave Monday by Greyhound bus for Salem and will return here Tuesday evening. The invitation was extended to the group after Melvin Geist, dean of the university school of music, heard the orchestra play at the Southern Oregon Music festival held earlier this month in Medford. He was one of the adjudicators. The group will be housed through facilities of the univer sity and after the concert Tues day morning they will be con ducted on a tour of the capitol. FOE Auxiliary Drill Team Wins In Competition The drill team of the auxiliary to the Crater Lake aerie, Fra ternal Order of Eagles, won sec ond place in drill work done April 24 at Grants Pass during as FOE regional meeting.
