Nixon an nounced last night the govern ment is considering sending the Metropolitan Opera Company on K good will tour of Europe. Such a tour would be the most tostly project among U.S. efforts to meet the recently intensified Communist cultural propaganda campaign. Nixon strongly endorsed the Idea, saying that "all the words In the world could not do as much for us as this excellent company." The vice president disclosed the possible European tour dur ing the Metropolitan's perfor mance here of Gounod's opera "Faust." He was guest of the Met' director, Rudolf Eing. FOR LATIN AMERICANS Chicago- (U.R) A 514,400 gift to help give extra training for Latin American doctors has been given to the Interamerican Foundation for Postgraduate Medical Education. The money came from the Gustavus and Louise Pfeiffer Research Foun dation for postgraduate medical fellowships for doctors from Mexico. Peru, Argentina, Brazil and Chile. The children had learn ed -of their mother's attempted suicide when someone threw a newspaper on the lawn. But the actress' mother, Mrs. Ellen Mar rener, said the boys did not ap pear upset. Surprised By Attempt Friends of the 35-year-old film star were surprised at her suicide attempt. Miss Hayward was known as being moody and emotional, but recently, friends said, "she seemed gay, more out going and happier, and she was very excited about her future movie' plans." They pointed out she apparent ly did not intend to die because she first hysterically telephoned her mother to hint at a death try, Mrs. Merrener then telephoned police, who found the actress un conscious on her living room floor. Barker's attorney said the cou pie fought Sunday "over whether to extend Barker's visitation rights five minutes longer." He said Miss Hayward was angry because Barker wanted to ac company her and the children to church. Barker had complained that Miss Hayward won't speak to him, nor allow her servants to, when he picks up their sons on his visitation days. Diamond Lake Wreck Kills San Diego Man Klamath Falls (U.R) George Wayne Sterne, 36, San Diego, was instantly killed near Dia mond Lake junction shortly after noon yesterday when his car col lided with a truck loaded with pipe- . Deputy Coroner Clarence Ward said Sterne was travelling north on Highway 97 pulling a 31-foot trailer, loaded with a boat. A truck going south stopped for a tree in the road. Another truck pulled out to pass the first, vehicle and ran head-on into the California car. Tons of pipe on the truck spilled out and demolished the car. State police worked an hour to extricate the body from the wreckage. . ' The tree had apparently been blown down across the road.
