George Hormel Gets Divorce From Actress Hollywood (U.R) George A Hormel II, 26, Heir to a meat packing fortune, yesterday re ceived a final divorce decree from French actress Leslie Caron. Hormel won an interlocutory decree from Miss Caron March 31, 1954, on charges she wrote him from Paris that she never -really loved him and wanted to lead "an intense artistic life." The couple were married in Las Vegas, Sept 23, 1951. . .twff99i Shoulder Injury Will Sideline CI Athlete Caldwell, Ida.--(U.R) College of Idaho's R." C. Owens has an nounced that his is dropping football and basketball next year because of a shoulder in jury. Owens hurt his shoulder in a football game against Lewis and Clark last fall. He underwent an operation this month and his doctor later announced that a chronic condition had developed. PEREZ FIGHT SOUGHT Spokane (U.R) A fight be tween Lulu Perez, Brooklyn lightweight who won a unani mous decision over sixth-ranked Rudy Garcia Monday night and Spokane's Bobby Woods was be ing planned today by promoter Gus Cozza. Cozza said Perez had indicated he was available for a 10-round match here against Woods May 13. No agreement has as yet been signed. (U.R) Former heavyweight champion Ezzard Charles and Joltin' John Holman, both fresh from knock out victories in their last outings, battle tonight in a nationally tel evised 10-round fight in tne Mi ami Beach Auditorium. Charles was a 4-1 favorite to whip the unranked Chicago Negro in his long comeback cam paign for a third shot at cham pion Rocky Marciano. Charles who has trained here for the last week, will weigh about 190 pounds and Holman about 200. Knocked Out Brion Holman has won 26 of the 37 fights. He knocked out Cesar Brion in four rounds here a few weeks ago in his most impressive performance. He also whipped Bo Willis and Julio Mederos earlier this year. Charles knocked out Vern Escoe in three rounds at Edmon ton, Canada, last week. He has won 87 of 100 fights. Two of the losses were to Marciano after Charles won the world's heavy weight title in 1950. The Cincinnati fighter lost to Nino Valdes of Cuba in his last appearance in Miami Beach. SKI INSTRUCTOR DIES North Conway, N.H. (U.R) Hannes Schneider, internation ally famous ski instructor who often was referred to as the "father of modern skiing," died of a heart seizure at his home here Tuesday. Funeral services for Schneider, who fled his na tive Austria in 1939 after the Nazi invasion, will be held Fri day. Three feet high at birth, Indian elephants stand eight to 10 feet at maturity. In the first game Sac ramento won by the same score over Portland. Some 2100 chilly fans watched righthander Bob Hall and Sac ramento's Ed Cereghino in a battle of control in the night con test. Portland broke through in the bottom of the third inning when Frankie Austin walked. Dick Whitman then sacrificed to send him to second and big Ed Michel son singled him home. The pitchers fought it out under the lights until the eighth when the Solons put in Bud Daley. Sacramento gave up nine hits to the Bevos while collect ing five. Third Win The game was Hall's third win against two losses and Ceregh ino's second loss against one win, In the first game the Sacs shut out Portland with Pitcher Ma rino Pieretti holding the Bevos to five hits. The day's game was called an "umbrella opener," but 1,500 fans sat in the sunshine for a change to watch the Solons win their ball game with a first in ning run. A pre-game Beaver parade through downtown Portland also went off without a drop. (U.R) The Chi cane' Cardinals of the National Football League Tuesday won a judgment of $590 against one time Cardinal star Ray Ramsey, who last year jumped to a Cana dian football pro team. Bash, vice-president and treasurer of the California Oregon Power company, spoke on personnel relations compared to management at a meeting of the Medford chapter of the Na tional Office Management asso ciation this week. Three new members joined NOMA during the meeting. They were Miss Eline Tammeny, Elk Lumber company; R. J. Insurance Plans Can Block Social Medicine ' San Francisco U.R) Depres sions have brought on socialized medicine in many European countries but America's volun tary hospital insurance plans can block such a result in this country, a California hospital executive said today. In a speech to the annual con ference of the Western Hospital Association, George U. Wood said his study of European state medical programs showed they all had a common origin depressions. Wood, executive vice presi dent of Peralta Hospital in Oak land, said socialism took over in the medical field "in times of industrial unemployment, when Jarge numbers of people needed medical care and could not af ford to buy it."
