NICHOLS United Pratt total Writer r blow-up tests i: Y t i Jet " x MS Washington U.R) My agent at Camp Desert Rock in Nevada, where they are having the big on the . A-bombs, reports there is quite a crisis out that way. There is a shortage of barbers. In fact out of the 25 or so t h a t were around when the tests start ed only one re mains. Even between blasts Haxman Nichois there generally are around 2000 men about and when the big show starts there are something like 5000. Well, most of the fellows are without a chance for leave, and there, seems to be no use to get a crock trim, unless the long hair starts to tickle around the collar. But now, with no barbers around except one busy man the tickling around the collar is getting to be something. . What has happened shouldn't happen in any well - organized base. GI' and shave-tails and ma jors, even, are taking turns cut ting one another's hair. The results, according to my friend, are most horrid and you ought to see the Brownie shot my pal sent me. It is not print able. My informant tells me that respectable Pfc.'s and up are running aroind looking like half-shorn shaggy dogs. "The guys who have mus taches, though," the agent said, "are having the toughest time. "A. man can wear a mane and get away with it, but a fellow with . a brush has a certain pride." The one barber at Camp Des ert Rock doesn't have time to trim the 'staches. So mustaches are coming off one after the other and pride is being lost the while. 'Giveaway' Program Charged by Truman Nashville, Tenn. U.R) Former President Harry S. Tru man has charged the Eisen hower administration is "giving away" the nation's natural re sources to "special interests." Mr. Truman made his accusa tion before an airport crowd that gathered to see him make an honorary lifetime member of the "Citizens for TVA." Mr. Truman said the Dixon Yates private power contract is "no good," and added that' "you can't set idly by and let these people in Washington sabotage the TVA." Mr. Truman said the TVA's creation had made possible other public power projects all over the nation. He said if it had not been for the agency, "there never would nave oeen rural electrification."
