TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Monday, April 25. 1955 Society and Clubs Annual Girls7 League Week Opens Today at High School One of the most important events of the year for girls at Medford Senior High school is the annual Girls' League week, which opened today. "And Away We Go" is the theme of the 1955 week. Miss Sue DeVoe, president of Girls' league, is general chair man, assisted by Miss Pat Read, treasurer, and Mrs. Ryder Berg, faculty advisor. Events of the week are big and little sister day Tuesday, "slack" day Wednesday, the an nual mother-daughter tea Thurs day and cotton and cord day Friday. Also planned each year dur ing Girls' League week is the annual art display of work by students and this will be held in the girls' .gymnasium The Misses Sue Donna Doolen and Meredith Huggins are chair men in charge of the big and little sister day, and Miss Jane Killingsworth is chairman of the tea, with Mrs. Hockersmith as faculty advisor. Miss Nancy Greaves is chairman of invita tions, with the Misses Marilyn Ilson and Gloria Haggard assist ing. Miss Cynthia Hunt is chairman in charge of the fash ion show skit, with Mrs. Ed Mc Kinstry as faculty advisor, and Misses Florence Sprague and Ar lene Rasmussen are on the clean up committee for the fashion show. Miss Jean Alley will take charge of decorations for the tea, and Misses Rosie Johnson and Nellie Rawlings are in charge of the cleanup commit tee for the tea. Miss Pat Leek is chairman in charge of planning a program for the big and little sister day, with Misses Kathryn Gott, Joan Strowbridge, and Diana Russell assisting. Chairman of the publicity committee is Miss Deanna Bru ning, with Misses Cynthia Ru kovina, Lorita Jennings, Carol Ballard, Betty Jameson, San dra Robinson and Sheila Spence assisting with various phases. Lady Lions Meet At Harmon Home Shady Cove Mrs. Donald Harmon was hostess for a meet ing of Shady Cove-Trail Lady Lions at her home at Shady Cove April 20. The nominating committee re ported, submitting a slate of can didates for election to be held in May. Mrs. Harmon served refresh ments after the business session. The May social meeting will be held May 4 at the home of Mrs. Lewis L. Jantzer at her home near Trail. Miss Florence Robison is chair man of programs, with Miss Dinah Hutchison assisting. Usher chairman is Mary Kay White and Wilson Gilinsky is assisting the league by taking charge of lighting technicalities for the shows and programs. Derthick of Salem is Delta Zeta state chair man and Mrs. Ted Mohr of Eu gene has charge of the luncheon arrangements. Dinner Planned For Phoenix Men; Association Meets Phoenix The Men's associa tion of Phoenix Presbyterian church will meet tonight at 6:30 o'clock at the church for a potluck supper. Gold Hill Group Changes Meeting; Lodge Plans Visit Gold Hill Mrs. Wilmer Bail ey, president of Amethyst Rebek ah Past Noble Grands' chib, an nounces that the group will meet at the home of Mrs. Harry New nham Thursday. April 28, af 8 p.m. Mrs. Bailey will be co hostess. The meeting was originally planned for the lodge hall. . Amethyst Rebekah lodge met April 20 the noble grand, Mrs. Fred Lester, presiding. Mrs. Bailey and Mrs. Robert McDan iels were honored during the so cial hour, their birthdays having been in April. Mrs. Lester Announced plans for the lodge to take part in Friendship night of Olive Re bekah lodge Medford on Mon day, May 2. Amethyst members will stage a skit. Rebekahs who plan to attend are asked to meet at the Gold Hill IOOF hall at 7:15 p.m. The next regular meeting of Amethyst lodge will be Wednes day, May 4. The refreshment committee will be Mrs. Frank Carter, chairman, Mrs. George Dorman, Mrs. Roy Bornoman, Mrs. Melford Hood and Mrs. Ralph Bell. Refreshments were served at the last meeting by Mrs. Paul Thompson and Mrs. Clarence Parsley. Women's association of the church met Thursday, with 23 attending. During the business session, conducted by Mrs. Ros coe Owens, various committee heads reported. Mrs. E. R. Claflin reported on the Presbyterial meeting in Grants Pass last month and a program and book report were given by Mrs. Hale Loofbor row. Luncheon was served at noon by Mrs. Al Morin, Mrs. Merle Simmonds, Mrs. Vincent Claflin and Mrs. Ray Claflin. A family night dinner was held at the church Friday, with 30 attending. Arrange ments were in charge of Mr. and Mrs. John Kesler and fol lowing dinner Mr. Kesler led devotions. Miss Verna Cingcade, teacher of Bible in the valley schools, spoke of her work and demon strated a flannelgraph lesson. The group voted to sponsor booths for the annual Phoenix May festival. Winners Named By Bridge Club Scores have .been announced for last week's meeting of Riv erside Bridge club. North - south winners were Mrs. Clay Cornett and Mrs. George Dean, first, 90 points; Mrs. G. E. Mernin and Roy Pruitt, second, 74; Mrs. C. L. Howard and Mrs. Josephine Clark, third, 71 &; Mrs. F. R. Baker and Mrs. Roy Pruitt, fourth, 70. Winning east-west were Mrs. M. M. Herman and Al Gilhou sen, first 71; Mrs. George Choate and Mrs. O. O. Alender fer, second, 66; and three cou ples, Mrs. Van Gilbert and Mrs. Marrs Gibbons, Mrs. H. J. Boyd and Williams Isaacs, Mrs. W. W. Stevenson and Mrs. B. L. (International) Recent Birthday Party Honors Mac Simmons Mrs. Charles Reeder, 306 Wil lamette avenue, was hostess for a party which honored Mac Sim mons on his 10th birthday an niversary. Attending the party were Cub scouts of Den 3, Pack 14. They were John Nicholson, Joe Reed er, John Reeder, Mike Hoover, Claude Hoover, Johnnie Sim mons, brother of the honored guest, and, Tommy Ness. Meeting Announced For Golden Link Class Golden Link Bible Class of First Baptist church will meet Thursday, April 28, at 1 p.m., at the home of Mrs. Grace Roberts, 10 11 West Tenth street. The devotional for the after noon will be given by Mrs. Ethel Van Cleave, and Mrs. Fred Whitman will present the study program. The social committee will consist of the Mesdames Joe Hibbard, Sam Jones and O. C. Tucker. About two-thirds of the worlds whales are taken in Antarctic waters. 4-H Club News ' Gold Hill Club Gold Hill Thimblena 4-H sewing club met April 22, at the home, of Bonnie Knapp. The meeting was called to order by Vervia Beman, vice president, in the absence of president, Jan Newland. Judith Higgens led the flag ceremony, and Kathy Cole man led the 4-H pledge. All. the 4-H report cards are now in. Reba Taylor was elected trea surer. Mrs.. Fred Jones, leader, as sisted by Mrs. Al Beman, taught the girls how to sew on buttons. Next meeting will be April 29, at the home of Kathy Coleman. r. .
