i i" :M t i i i i! i I i M 1 !! 5 9 i S Annual Workshop tSo Flattering! ror secretaries To Be Saturday Plans for the secretaries work shop to be conducted at Sou thern Oregon college, Ashland, Saturday, April 23, wer com- pleted at a dinner meeting of Rogue River chapter, National Secretaries association, Thurs day, at Rogue Valley Country club. Tho workshop will open at 12:30 p.m. with a luncheon at Susanne Homes hall. Speaker will be Dr. Donald MacDougall, assistant profesesor of social sci ence at the college. At 2 p.m. Lesie B. Robertson, manager of the Robertson School of Business, will speak on the subject "Trends in Letter Writ ing." A question and answer period will follow. Panel discus sions on "What the Public Ex pects in an Office" and "Office Shortcuts" are also included on th program. The session will close with a banquet at Susanne Homes hall at 5:30 p.m. followed by a prob lem clinic. Alwin V. Miller of the secretarial science depart ment at the college will be mod .erator for the clinic. The workship is open to all office employees and employers and membership in NSA is not a requirement for registering. The registration fee of $4 includes luncheon and banquet tickets. A fee of $3 has been set for those interested in attending a portion of the workship, either the luncheon and afternoon sessions or the dinner sessions. Addition al information may be obtained from Mrs. Vivian Howard, edu cation chairman, at Howard Stenographic Service, phone 3-3649. ' Guest speaker at the dinner meeting was Mrs. C. H. Buffing' ton who spoke on "Charm." Mrs. Buffington, a former model, pointed out that there isn't any one who has any better oppor tunity to develop charm and poise than the "career girl" who is constantly meeting the public. She gave ideas on grooming and styling the hair, correct make up, how to select becoming col ors in dress and the importance of a good basic wardrobe. Miss Marjorie Brannum, pros pective NSA scholarship candi date, was a guest at the meeting. A special meeting has been scheduled for 7:30 p.m., Thurs day, April 28, at the home of Mrs. Janice Long, 1308 Queen Anne. Lodge to Observe 136th Anniversary Medford IOOF lodge will com memorate the 136 anniversary of Odd Fellowship in North America with a program Tues day, April 26, at 9 p.m. in the lodge hall, 221 West Sixth street. Refreshments will be served and all members whose birth days occur in April will be hon ored. A short history of the work and principles of the order will be given. The evening will close with card games and the public is in vited to attend. Tom Banks is chairman in charge of the evening. Sorority Group To Travel North For Convention , Several Jackson county mem bers of Delta Kappa Epsilon, teachers' honorary society, plan to attend the state convention to be held' in Portland April 22-24. In the delegation will be Mrs. Kathryn Stancliffe, Phoenix, president of the chapter; Mrs. Alice Ottis, Grants Pass, first vice-president; Mrs. Alice Will its, Ashland, second vice-president and state quota chairman; Miss Ina Freeman, Talent, state chairman on service; Mrs. Alice Gay, Central Point; Miss Delie Whisenant and Mrs. Bertha Has kins, Medford;' all past presi dents of Epsilon chapter. Mrs. Maxine Smith, Medford, and Mrs. Merle Woodward, Grants Pass, will also attend. Mrs. Stancliffe will participate in a panel discussion regarding chapter size. Groups toHoId Kide on bunday A ride is planned for Sunday, April 24, for " members of the Jackson - County Mounted Sher iff's posse, the Ladies Mounted troop, and the Medford Trail Riders. Those planning to make the trip should meet at the posse grounds at 9:30 a.m., and the ride will be made into the Gri fen Creek area.
