America Only National Love Cairo (U.R) The United States seems to be the only country in the world where love is regarded as a national prob lem. No other people in the world devote as much time to the study of relations between man and woman as the Ameri cans do." This is one of the impressions which George Aziz, foreign ed itor and columnist of the lead ing Egyptian newspaper Al-Ah-ram, brought back from a 10 week tour of the United States. Aziz has recorded his impres sions in a book "America The House of Goha." (Goha is a leg endary comic sheik in Arab folk lore whose house is a labyrinth where one loses one's way.) All Ought To Have Love Aziz says Americans tend to believe that the idea ' of love should be "sold like any com modity" because they think that love is "something which every body ought to have." The major ity of Americans, he says, mar ry for love and almost all their songs are about love. Contrary to the impression foreigners get from American films and publications about Hollywood, Aziz notes, most Am erican women are brunettes not blondes, and most of their men prefer them that way. They are also shapely enough to attract Orientals, he says. Aziz stresses the "magnitude and diversity of life in the Unit HURRY TO LEON'S TOTS - TO - TEENS Here's your chance to outfit the younger set in lovely Spring Fashions during our Spring Cleanup Sale and Pear Blossom Specials ... What strikes him most about the American character generally is an optimistic out look upon life, an extrovert na ture, a spirit of free competi tion and friendliness towards foreigners. Washington, Aziz thinks, is an "odd" city. Although it is the capital of the greatest democ racy, he explains, its inhabi tants do not have the right to vote, and although it is the capital of the biggest industrial country in the world, it has very few factories and the tempo of life in it is comparatively slow. Another surprising thing about Washington, Aziz says, is that it has 10 women for every eight men. The writer discusses some as pects of American domestic pol itics and foreign policy. "The Communists would be making a big mistake if they believe they can bring about an upheaval or a revolution in Am erica," he writes. "Conditions which breed revolt do not exist there . . . There are no traces of any general discontent or rebel lious tendencies and there are no subversive activities to speak of. The reason is that social jus tice prevails everywhere." Another reason, Aziz adds, is that "capital has become the slave of the community and not its master as the Communists claim." Aziz devotes a chapter to the Presses Many, many lovely styles for now and through Summer Stock up now at these Savings. $J99t0$499 Boys SPORT JACKETS Also a Few kfxh SUITS K $2.99 BLOUSES Includes Cotton and Dacron. The Oregon grassman title would be worth $300. American press: "It can be said that American newspapers play ed an important role in bring ing the United States out of its isolation and evoking American interest in world affairs." Aziz says that he went to the United States with the precon ceived idea that materialism permeated all walks of life there because of over-industrialization, .and that Americans were "ruled by the dollar." But he found out that this was wrong. "The American citizen's mo tive in working hard and seek ing the highest possible material profit," Aziz says, "is his keen desire to raise his living stan dards and to lead a comfortable and prosperous life." . It was from Brig. Gen. William L. Lee, with the letterhead "Headquarters Thirteenth Air Force Office of the Commander." Ray had writ ten him as an old friend before "Jerry" Lee became the "Tough est Guy in the Air Force." "Glad that you liked the story in the Saturday Evening Post," General Lee wrote. "Some parts of it are not exactly accurate, but close enough. I can't agree with Sherrod that I am the 'Toughest Guy in the Air Force' because I know several that I think are tougher in more ways than one. "Guess he hung such a title on the story to attract attention to it. And, I must say that it did because I've been getting many letters from friends and from many people that I do not know, about the story." The letter, in a reminiscent vein continues: "Has been some 28 years since I saw you and the old world has turned around many times since then. Many things have happened in the interim, but by and large, I've had good sailing and have no regrets about the past. Don't believe that I would make any changes if I had it all to do over., "You mentioned the foreman I was working for at Wink. His name was John Drummond. The last I heard of him several years ago, he -was still with the Texas Electric Service company and was living in Midland, Texas. "I had already graduated from Texas A&M college when I was at Wink. When I left there, I went to the flying school at Brooks Field, San Antonio, Texas. This was in February, 1928.
