(OMCOK) MAIL TRIBUKE NINE Greenspun Faces Court on Charge Of Inciting Murder Las Vegas 0J.R) Publish er H. M. (Hank) Greenspun of the Las Vegas Sun goes to trial tomorrow in federal court on charges he sought in his news paper to "incite the murder or assassination" of Sen. Joseph R. McCarthy. Greenspun. 45. is accused of violating federal postal regula tions by sending through the mails copies of the newsDaper containing a column written by mm predicting the Wisconsin Republican would come to a vio lent end. The publisher was indicted bv a federal Grand Jury a little more than a year ago. The gov ernment also seeks to revoke Greenspun's second class mail ing permit. The indictment charged that on Jan. 8, 1954 Greenspun "caus ed to be deposited 874 coriies of the Morning Sun which contain ed non-mauable matter of an indecent character tendine to incite murder or. assassination." In his daily column "Where I Stand," Greenspun had writ ten, "Sen. Joe McCarthy has to come to a violent end. Huey Long's death will be serene and peaceful compared to the de mise of the sadistic bum from Wisconsin." They Destroy You "Live by the sword and 'you die by the sword. Destroy peo ple and they in. turn destroy you," he column read. He also said "Chances are that McCarthy will eventually be laid to rest at the hands of some poor innocent slob whose reputation and life he had de stroyed through his well estab lished smear technique." With Federal Judge John R. Ross of Carson City presiding, selection of a jury will begin Wednesday. Ultimatum Urged In Red Blockade Berlin (U.R) Mayor Otto Suhr of West Berlin flew to Bonn today to urge the West German government to lay down an "or else" ultimatum to the Communists to break the Red "pocket blockade" of the for mer capital of Germany. Suhr said he had no concrete proposals to make to Chancel lor Konrad Adenauer but that he intended to press for a time limit on negotiations with the East Germans to prevent talks from dragging on indefinitely. Twelve days have passed since the Communists slapped exorbi tant new tolls on West German trucks bringing in suDDlies alontr the 110 mile highway from Western Germany to West Ber lin. Western officials see no indication that the Com munists are ready to lower th tarms. The Communists are schedul ed to meet with a West German delegation Thursday in West Berlin. There has been an in creasing demand that the West German delegation threaten to cut off trade with the Commun ist zone unless taxes are lower ed. The new tolls jumped the tax on western vehicles as much as 1000 per cent. The West Berlin city government is subsidizing the truckers to keep the vital supply line open.
