Bills in Legislature Salem (U.R) The House has passed an appropriation of $9600 for the Klamath River Basin Commission to complete its work of surveying water re sources in the region. The commission vas created by the 1953 Legislature and given a $25,000 appropriation, It turned back to the general fund some $5000 in unused mon ey and asked for the reduced appropriation this year to wind up its work. Rep. V. T. Jack son (D-Roseburg) said the com mission expected to go out of existence when its work was finished. A bill providing for state as sistance to local school districts who have provided junior col lege facilities was to be dis cussed today. Members also agreed to vote again today on a resolution that would create an interim com mittee to study electric utility taxation before the next legis lature convenes. The measure was defeated in the House last week but Rep. Loran Stewart (R-Cottage Grove) successfully moved for reconsideration. Salem (U.R) The Senate has passed several appropriation measures, including those for the state hospitals and schools for the blind and the deaf. Appropriations for the next biennium already approved by the House were unanimously ap proved by the Senate. They in clude: Oregon State Tuberculosis Hospital, $1,922,478. Eastern Oregon Tuberculosis Hospital $1,085,560. Oregon State Hospital $8,036, 222. Eastern Oregon State Hos pital, $3,719,469. State School for the Blind, $399,018. State School for the Deaf, $880,496. Salem (U.R) A bill to limit the amount of damages col lectable in the case of inad vertent libel to actual instead of general damages has been given a final hearing in the Senate State and Federal Affairs Com mittee. ; Committee members indicated a vote on whether to move the bill out to the Senate floor with a favorable recommendation might be made later. Lamar Tooze, Portland attor ney, speaking in favor of the measure, House Bill 434, said th question of equity is of such importance he believes the act would be held constitutional if it should be challenged in the courts. Installing Television Antenna Proves Fatal Tillamook, Ore. (U.R) A 19-year-old apprentice seaman was electrocuted in a freak ac cident here yesterday when he accidentally touched, a power line while putting up a televis ion antenna, the Coast Guard said. , The young coast guardsman, Richard S. Bateman of San Francisco, was stationed at the Tillamook Bay Coast Guard life boat station. The boy's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bateman, had just left here last Saturday for Cali fornia after spending a week's vacation with their son. Bateman had been serving here four months. The accident occurred about 8:20 a.m. Democrat Tips Hand On Coming Election Tallahassee, Fla. (U.R) Dem ocrat Tom Johnson may have tipped his hand on any aspira tions he might have for a seat in Congress. Rep. William C. Cramer (R Fla.) failed to appear with visit ing members of a Florida dele gation to the Florida House of Representatives Monday.
