"When it is complete," he shouted over the din, "the buil ding will be sound-proof." The Illinois Democrat, Sen. Paul Douglas, has changed his mind about those Texas million aires. A little, anyhow. Injured Pilot Removed From Sierra Ranger Post Quincy, Calif. (U.R) A dazed and bleeding pilot was taken from a remote ranger out post in the rugged Sierra to a nearby hospital yesterday, after he had crawled and stumbled to the uninhabited station after he crash-landed his failing plane. Link Peckinpah, ranger in the Plumas National forest, said the pilot, David Arrowsmith, San Francisco, was taken out by an ambulance team from the West ern Pacific hospital at Portola, about 20 miles east of here. To refer to all cigars as "sto gies" is erroneous. The stogie is a long, thin cigar made of do mestic tobacco. It originated in Washington, Pa. Shortly after that the stogie industry centered its activities in Wheeling, W. Va. and Pittsburgh, Pa. For many years all stogies were hand rolled. Now nearly all are ma chine made. However, the stogies I smoke are hand rolled and made in Pittsburgh, Pennsyl vania. Bartenders Questioning my statement that bartenders are paid "excellent salaries," a Baltimorean, so en gaged, says he is receiving $55 a week. Until recently he was paid $40 a week. That certainly is low pay for an activity re quiring so much skill and knowledge plus the possession of a pleasing personality. The wages of bartenders differ greatly. In San Francisco they are paid $80 a week and up. Quite a few San Francisco bartenders are paid $100 a week. Some even more than that. Passing By Robert Akers, distinguished Texas journalist.
