2s S TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Couple Married In Scarsdale; Family on Trip Mrs. Julie C. Jones, Old Stage road, Medford, and Burton A. Daugherty, formerly of Med ford and now of New York City, were married February 23 in a small ceremony in Scarsdale, N. Y. Only family members at tended. 3 The newlyweds will live at 222 Boulevard in Scarsdale. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred S. V. Car penter, Topsides, Old Stage croad, and the bridegroom is a son of Mrs. Vera E. Daugherty, 34 Willamette avenue, Medford. The bride attended Katharine Branson school, Ross, Calif., Ste phens college, Columbia, Mo., and Sarah Lawrence college, Eronxville, N.Y. She is a gradu ale of the University of Oregon, and Is a member of Alpha Phi sorority. Mr. Daugherty was graduated from Medford High school and Yale university. He served three years in the United States Navy, and is a reserve officer. He is on the business staff of Time, Inc. Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter were hosts for a pre-wedding cocktail party February 20 at the Hotel Pierre in New York City which honored the couple. Three . for mer Medford residents and their husbands were among the guests. They were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Herbert Simmons, Bedford, N.Y.; Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Mac Arthur, Bronxville, and Mr. and Mrs. George Martin Jr., Yonk- ers. The Carpenters, accompanied by their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harlow Car penter, sailed February 24 on the Cristoforo Colombo, Italian line, for Europe. Miss Butterfield Becomes Bride of Richard Lehman Rogue River The wedding of Miss Mary Margaret Butterfield to Richard Earl Lehman took place February 5 in the Method ist church, Reno, Nev. The Rev. Stephen C. Thomas officiated for the double ring ceremony. The bride's is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Butterfield, Rogue River, and the bride groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy E. Lehman, 1800 Crest brook road, Medford. . The bride, who attended Rogue River High school, is a bookkeeper for Fluhrer bakeries here. The bridegroom attended Medford Senior High school and is employed by the Mt. Pitt company. The newlyweds are living at 620 Park place No. 5. Medford Woman Home from Trip Mrs. Al White returned Thurs day from a week's trip to Vic toria, B. C, where she visited a sister, Mrs. Inez L o w d e n, whose home is in Bremerton, Wash. Mrs. Lowden, who was attending a meeting of the Busi ness and Professional Women's club, is president of the Brem erton BPW. Mrs. White and Mrs. Lowden went by car to Port Angeles with the national club treasurer, Mrs. Ruth Cull ins, and the Washington state treasurer, Mrs. Mary Campbell. They were en tertained by the Canadian wo men at the Oak Bay hotel and also attended a buffet luncheon at their club rooms. At the meeting were repre sentatives from . Capetown, South Africa, and Australia, and the mayor of Victoria was a speaker for the session. Medford Couples Home From South Mr. and Mrs. Richard B. Thierolf, 91 Black Oak drive, 3 and Dr. and Mrs. Ralph E. Hibbs, 190 White Oak drive, re turned last week after a two week trip to California ' and Nevada. They visited at Los An geles, Palm Desert and Las Vegas. The Hibbs also visited Friends at San Diego. 8 Mrs. Hibbs met the Thierolf s and her husband at San Fran cisco after she had gone east to attend a brother's wedding. The group returned here together. Card Party -The Degree of Honor Protec tive association will meet for a card party Monday, February 28, at 7:45 p.m., in the Redman hall. The event is for members and their friends. ISM Mr. and Mrs. Medford Couple Married , s In Methodist Church Rites An event of Sunday, February 20, was the wedding of Miss Joan Burk, to Carl G. Burk, the ceremony taking place at three o'clock in the afternoon at First Methodist church. Dr. Raymond E. Balcomb officiated. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Burk, 340VS North Central avenue, and the bridegroom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Burk, Stevens and Wabash avenue. Two-hundred guests attended the wedding and the reception which followed at the church. Mr. and Mrs. Burk are spending their honeymoon in Palm Springs, Calif., and will be at home at 703 Palm street after March 15. For her wedding the bride wore a gown of pink cnanmiy lace with a panel of silk net and bracelet length sleeves. "She car ried a cascade bouquet of white stock, hyacinths and gladiolus with ivy. She was given in mar riage by her father. Miss Sanna Craig, Gold Hill, was honor attendant and Miss Doris Travis, Gold Hill, was bridesmaid. Miss Craig wore a gown of wistaria colored taffeta and Miss Travis' gown was of blue net over satin. Both carried bou quets of white carnations and ivy garlands and wore circlets of carnations on their hair. Richard Harrison was best man for the bridegroom, and ushers were Raymond Van Liew, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, and Dr. Paul Dix. Harvey Robertson was wed ding soloist. For the reception Miss Vir ginia Larson and Miss Carol Wik- strom cut the wedding cake, and Mrs. Van Liew, sister of the bridegroom, poured. The bride's mother wore a grey suit with corsage of pink carnations and ivy, and the bride groom's mother wore a navy blue bolero dress with bouquet of pink carnations and ivy. The bride, who attended Rogue River and Gold Hill high schools, is a secretary for Oregon Finance ; company. The bridegroom was graduated from Medford high school and later attended South ern Oregon college and Arm strong college, Berkeley, Calif. He is associated with his father in business, and is manager of the firm. A shower on February 14 hon ored the bride-to-be. The co hostesses, Miss Virginia Larson and Carol Wikstrom, entertained at the Wikstrom home in Verde hills. The bride-elect was presented many gifts. Dr. Suri will talk Tuesday noon for Medford Rotary club and that night will speak for the Medford chapter, Oregon United Nations' association. The even ing meeting is set for 8 p.m. at the YMCA. Wednesday, March 2, he will speak at Sputhern Oregon col lege at 10 a.m. Also on his pro gram are talks in Grants Pass and Klamath Falls. Dr. Suri is described as being one who . is . familiar both with the United States and with Uni ted Nations. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from universities in India and his doctorate from Northwestern university. He has been a re search worker in speech, se mantics and philosophy. . As a press correspondent, he has served with the UN head quarters in New York and for UNESCO in Paris. He has writ ten many articles on science, politics, general semantics and philosophy. Griqsbys Return From Motor Trip Eagle Point Mr. and Mrs. James A. Grigsby, Long Moun tain road, Eagle Point, - arrived home Friday evening after being on' a motor trip since February 4. They visited numerous south and southwestern cities and at tended some of the Mardi Gras festivities at New Orleans, La. They made stops at Houston and San Antonio, Tex., Okla homa City, Okla., Albuquerque, N. M., and Little Rock, Ark. Students Wed In Ceremony Held at Salem Miss Catherine Lee Kennedy became the bride of Philip Mc Callister at 2 o'clock afternoon rites February 5 at St. Joseph's Catholic church in Salem. The couple is making their home in Salem at 1055 Greenwood drive. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Kennedy,: 711 Waverly avenue, Medford. J Guests from here at the wed-! ding included the bride's par-! ents, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Mc Kenzie. Mrs. P. A. McCallister, mother of the bridegroom from Milton-Freewater, also attended. The bride was a student at Willamette university before her marriage and is affiliated with Pi Beta Phi sorority. The bridegroom, a junior at Wil lamette university, Is a mem ber of Phi Delta Theta fratern ity. Miss Jan Weber, Portland, a sorority sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Best' man was Jerry McCallister, a brother of the bridegroom, from Milton Freewater. Ushers were Dick Rohr, Wil liam Kennedy, Neil Thomas and Tom Gooding. Mr. Kennedy is a brother of the bride. The bride's gown was of ny lon net and lace and her flow ers were white chrysanthemums in the form of a nosegay. Her attendent wore a gown of green nylon net and lace and her nosegay bouquet was of yellow flowers. The reception was held at the Salem Women's club attended by about 150 guests. The serving table was decorated with yel low roses and white candles. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Kennedy wore a rose lace dress with pink accessories and Mrs. McCallister was dressed in a blue sheer wool dress with white accessories. Both had or chid corsages. The newly wedded couple made their wedding trip to Portland. ' Moore-Sutton Rite Announced Mr. and Mrs. George E. Moore, who were married January 30 at the home of the Rev. Darold H. Jones, pastor of the First Church of God, are living at route 2, box 170, Central Point. The bride is the former Miss Phyllis Faunette Sutton. The bride's parents are Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Sutton, 807 Vz Ben nett street in Medford, and the bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Waelty, Central Point. The Rev. Mr. Jones performed the wedding at 3:30 o'clock in the afternoon. Mrs. John Edmondson of Til ler, sister of the bride, was honor attendant. Mr. Sutton gave the bride in marriage. She wore a street length dress baby blue trim med in white Guests at the wedding includ ed the bride's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Sutton. A wedding dinner was served by parents of the bridegroom at their home. The bride attended both Cor vallis and Medford high schools and returned here last fall from Corvallis where she had lived for about nine years. Families of both the bride and bride groom have lived for many years in this vicinity and the bride groom has been here the most of his life. ' The bridegroom attended Med ford high school and he is em ployed by W. L. Clemmer as a logger in the Applegate area. Gold Star Mothers To Meet on Tuesday Medford Gold Star Mothers will meet Tuesday, March 1, at the home of Mrs. Mabel Nichol son, 821 North Central avenue. A potluck luncheon at noon will be followed by a business meet ing. 1 Phone 3-5379 LilIlM Mrs. Philip McCallister Couple Wedded In Church Rites; Return From Trip Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kimpton have returned from a wedding trip to southern California and are living at 316 North Sixth street in Central Point. The bride is the former Lila All dridge, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. R. Pollack, Jacksonville. . The bridegroom, who has been living at 330 Haven street,: Med ford, is a son of Mrs. Frances Follinsbee, Chippewa Falls, Wis. The ceremony was performed in Medford First Methodist church with only . a few close friends and relatives attending. Dr. J. Thomas Dixon read the double ring rites at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. The bride wore a . grey flan nel suit with black accessories and her corsage was of white carnations and red rosebuds. Attendants for the couple were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Morehouse of Central Point. The bride is employed by Dr. E. M. Hanawalt as a secretary. The bridegroom is a .mechanic associated with the Crater Lake Machinery company. Military Society Initiates Cadet Eugene Air Force cadet Justin Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Justin B. Smith of 21 Geneva street, Medford, has been initiated into Scabbard and Blade, national military honor ary on campus. Young Smith, a junior pre-law major, is a graduate of Medford high school. . State Supervisor To Visit Lodge ... Mistletoe camp, Royal Neigh bors of America, will entertain Mrs. Mae Logan, Portland, state supervisor of the lodge, at the next meeting. It will be held Thursday, March 3, at 7:30 p. m. at the Pythian building. Members are asked to wear formal gowns to the meeting. Miss Margaret Huson, a jun ior, was elected president of the Associated Women students and Keith Mirick was elected presi dent of the senior class for the spring semester. Tom Gail, . a freshman, was elected vice-president of his class, and Miss Nancy -Newton is first vice-president of the Associated Women's group. Miss Huson will be presented today as organist for instrumen talists who will appear in con certs being given by Willamette university students in Oregon City and Newberg. The concerts will be given at 3 p.m., at the Oregon City Methodist church, and at 7:30 p.m., at the Newberg Methodist church. The 78-voice a cappella choir will be featured under the direc tion of Don Gleckler.. Lady Elks Plan Luncheon. Swarthout, pro fessor of political science at Ore gon State college, will speak for the next meeting of Medford League of Women Voters.' It will be held Saturday, March 5, at the Medford hotel, with lunch eon to be served at 1 p.m. Dr. Swarthout, who has talked for the league before, is one of the most interesting speakers to appear before the league in re cent years. A. Grif fin and his wife were given a surprise house warming party last week by about 65 friends at the Jacksonville Presbyterian church. The Griffins' new home is lo cated on Oregon st. Friends in the community purchased a fireplace screen and set for the honored guests. A large cake in the shape of a replica of the new Griffin home was baked for the occasion by Mrs. John Niedermeyer.
