Branchfield's work is part of the program of the Oregon State Bar association, which provides -this service at each legislature. Lawyers from throughout the state do the work on a volun tary basis, without compensation and pay for most of their own expenses. The work, in addition to bill drafting, includes providing le'gal opinions requested by legis- 0 lators on questions which come before them. The Bar attorneys work closely with the Legisla- ) .five '' Council, which performs munh the same function. 8 e His. off ice is in the suite set aside for the Bar, on the fourth floor of the Capitol. Branchfield was admitted to e;the Oregon Bar in 1942 and has z 'practiced in Medford since 1946. He is past president of the South ern Oregon Bar association, and EDWARD BRANCHFIELD Helpt in Bill-Drafting has been active in community and veterans affairs. Among his positions are membership on the Medford school board, and chair manship of the advisory commit tee to the state department of veterans affairs. Passage was believed as sured despite a serious split in Solons Protest Freighter Transfers Washington (U.R) Three Oregon congressmen protested today against possible transfer of 75 reserve fleet freighters from Astoria, Ore., to Olympia, Wash. Sens. Wayne Morse and Rich ard L. Neuberger and Rep. Edith Green, all Democrats, wrote Earl M. Hughes, vice-president of the Commodity Credit Corp. that the transfer would increase the number of jobless at Astoria where the unemployment situa tion already is "critical . . . alarming." Government costs would go up thousands of dollars a ship, they also said. The ships are being used for storage of grain held by the government in the price support program.
