TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Junior Director Takes Office for Twenty-Fifth Year Medford Junior -Degree of Honor held installation of offi cers Saturday, February 12, in Lincoln gymnasium, with Mrs. H. G. Wilson taking office as director for the" 25th consecutive term. Conducting the installation were Mrs. Cyril Gay, installing past president; Mrs. Clyde Hill- yer, installing officers and Mrs. Serena McMahan, usher. Junior members taking office were Darlene Morrow, past pres ident; Sharon Forde, president; Donna Krause, first vice-presi dent; Carol Krause, usher. Mrs. Wilson read a prayer entitled "The New Year," and the new officers were presented corsages. " Sharon Forde was presented her captain's stripe for her cap. . Carol Krause gave . a solo dance, and the birthday song was sung for Mrs. Wilson and she was presented a card. The birthdays of Lincoln and Wash ington were also observed. . Refreshments were served, with Darlene Morrow and Don na Krause assisting Mrs. Wil son, and the members also played basketball. ' Amethyst Rebekahs To Help With Dance; Club Meeting Planned Gold Hill Mrs. Fred Lester, noble grand of Amethyst Re bekah lodge, has announced that Rebekahs are to take pies to the Linda Bowen benefit dance Saturday, February 19, at Gold Hill Grange hall. Members un able to attend are asked to send pies. Rebekahs on the committee for the dance are Mrs. Robert McDaniels, Mrs. Paul Thompson, Mrs. John Cogswell and Mrs. Alva Walker. Amethyst Rebekah Friendship club will meet Monday, Febru ary 21, at 8 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Harry Smith. Mrs. Don Morrow will be co-hostess. New officers will be installed. . Riverside Club Plays Wednesday Mrs. B. B. Hughes and her partner, Mrs. Lloyd Johnson headed north-south winnets for Wednesday's meeting of River side Duplicate Bridge club, and first place v east-west was won by Mrs. Edna Miller and Tommy Munds. The first couple scored 85 points, and the second 77. Other north-south winners were Mrs. B. L. Sanderson and Roy Pruitt, second, 8OV2, Mrs. Josephine Clark and Mrs. Mamie Hendryx, third, 77; Mrs. Frank Baker and Dr. George Dean, fourth, 69. Additional east-west winners were Mrs. Fred Purdin and Al Gilhousen, second, 67; John Sol heim and Marion Milne, third, 65Vz; Mrs. Marrs Gibbons and Mrs. Arthur Schoenberg, 64, fourtn. " . ; Republican Club ' Changes Meeting .. Next week's meeting of Jack son County Republican Women has been changed from Monday to Tuesday, February 22, it was announced yesterday. The change was made in order that the group might have as speaker Mark Hatfield, state senator and Williamette university professor, who will be in Medford that day for another speaking engage ment. - ; ; s The meeting will be held at 12 noon at the YMCA, and a committee will serve luncheon. Rickard, 2-2578. - - Post Office Clerks and Auxiliary To Hold District Meetings; State Officers Coming Members of the Federation of Post Office Clerks and the wom en's auxiliary will hold a dis trict session in , the Jackson hotel, Sunday, February 20. "Buying nylon hose with their j particular use in mind is both sensible and possible," Miss Sad dler says. "Remember' that denier is the principal guide to sheerness," Miss Saddler says. "Denier is the weight and thickness of the ny lon yarn. The higher the denier number, the heavier and stronger the thread." She said yam for nylon hos iery is made in eight different deniers 10 and 12 for "dress up" occasions; 15, 20 and 30 for general wear; and 40, 50 , and 70 for heavy duty. "Gauge affects the sheerness of a stocking too. The gauge num ber tells the number of stitches for each inch and a half around the stocking," she said. PORK STEAK Friday, February 18, 1955 Coming Events Announced by Cancer Society Arrangements for several im portant events of the near fu ture were made at a meeting, of the Medford American Cancer society committee held in the home of Mrs. Fred T. Burich. A preview of cancer film is set for Wednesday, February 23, at the Medford courthouse audi torium. The film showing will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. when a recess for luncheon will be taken and the meeting will continue from 1:15 to 4 p.m. This meeting is open to the public, but program chairmen are espe cially invited to attend. , The second event is set for February 24 when a district con ference of the American Cancer society will be held in the Epis copal church, Roseburg, Ore. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the sessions are for cancer committee .chairmen and local captains. Luncheon reservations are to be made by notifying Mrs. Carl Wimberly, 621 East Lane street, Roseburg, not later than February 22. Third event announced at the meeting is the Jackson County Investment day set for March 9 at Rogue Valley Country club. The meeting will open at 10:45 a.m. and continue until 3 p.m. and is open to all cancer com mittee volunteers. Announcement was also made of the annual hobby tea of the Jackson county committee which will be held the last week in April. Accordionaires Play at Camp; Party at Studio The Eve Prentice Accordion aires were featured Monday eve ning in an hour's program at the Camp White theater for a ca pacity audience. This group from the Prentice band is composed of 42 boys, mostly, of junior and senior high school age. A special feature of the pro gram was five small boys play ing and singing a number to lit tle Sandra Charters, 7 years old. The little boys were Roger Wi ley, Richard LeFleur, Brian Har ris, Tommy Harvey and Danny Dixon. Sandra, dressed in a pink satin and lace heart, sang sev eral numbers accompanied by Henry Vessall, Gerald Fanger and Joe Bailey. , Others featured in solos were Doyle Branson, Keith Bacshaus, Jack Webster, Norman Plum mer, Nickie Gier, Delbert and Gene Harvey, Pat Connolly and Lynn Miller. The octet members were Bruce .Thompson, Richard Cooper, Gerald Fanger, Billy Beer, Pat Connolly, Joe Bailey, Delbert and Gene Harvey. The boys were dressed in the new pink and black uniforms. The Accordion Troupers en joyed a valentine party Monday afternoon during the regular band rehearsal at 4 o'clock at the Prentice studio, 517 Newtown street. About 60 members of the jun ior band were present. Mrs. Carnes. Mrs. Putman. Mrs. Hinson and Mrs. Miller fur nished the valentine cakes for re freshments. Assisting Mrs. Pren tice with serving were Sharon Roberts, Oveta Walden, Patsy Eckel, Sandra Buxton and Yvonne Ochs. Warren Gill (R-LeBanon). Their representatives spoke in favor of what was referred to as a "bi-partisan bill" to outlaw wirs tapping in Oregon and making violation a felony. Rev. Alfred Stenner of Spring field, chairman of the legislative committee of the Oregon Coun cil of Churches, said "it is as important to protect the inno cent as it is to catch the guilty." The bill was introduced by Sens. Monroe Sweetland (D-Mil-waukie), Philip B. Lowery (R Medford), and Donald Husband (R-Eugene), and Reps. George Layman (R-Newberg) and Robert Klemsen (D-St. Helens).
