TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Travelers Leave For Mardi Gras; Couples Return Late winter vacations are much in the news this week, with sev eral couples home from south ern California, and others leav ing for trips. . .' Mrs. Ruth Custard and Mrs. Goldie Brooks are leaving to day for Los Angeles where they will join a conducted tour to New Orleans. In the Louisiana city the two will attend , the annual Mardi Gras festival. They will be absent about two weeks. ,Mr. and Mrs. I. E. Staples, 1435 .Euclid avenue, returned Saturday night after . spending two weeks at Palm Desert, Calif. The Staples, one of several couples vacationing in Palm Desert, also spent some time in Los Angeles and San Francisco before returning home.' Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Miksche, 813 Minnesota avenue, were with the Staples in Palm Desert and Los Angeles. Mrs. Miksche has remained in Cali fornia to visit , in - Los Gatos, while Mr. Miksche returned home Sunday. Also home after a trip south are Dr. and Mrs. Edwin R. Dur no of Valley View drive, who spent a vacation in Palm Desert. "While in the south they spent some time with their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hensley, and daughter, Jennifer .Ann San Antonio, Tex. 'Mr. Hensley is on duty with the Army in Texas, and the Hensleys were spending a leave in southern California with his relatives. Dr. and Mrs. B. Brandt Bar tels have returned to their home 34 Valley View drive after a few days vacation in California. The couple first attended the annual cattle sale in Red Bluff, Calif., and then continued to southern California. . The Bartels attended the sale in Red Bluff as part of a group which annually goes south f or this event. In the group this year were Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Baker, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Buff ington, Mr. and Mrs. , Warren Bayliss and Mr. and Mrs. David Holmes. 4 Baptist Pastor To Be Honored; -Dinner Planned Mevnbers and friends of the First Baptist church will honor Dr. F. . Carl Truex, at a dinner Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the church.' Dr. Truex has served the church for the past 5V2 months as interim pastor. Those whose names begin with letters A through J are asked to take salads and cakes for the pot luck dinner, and those wMse names begin with letters K" through Z are to take meat and vegetable dishes. All are to take table service. Glen Lamb has charge of a program wJaich will be presented after the dinner. Mrs. Jerome Maehren, enter tainment chairman, introduced Robert Lawrence, music teach er, and five students of the school band who played two selections. Mrs. Henry Friesen " accom panied Mrs. Orin Bartholomew who sang two songs. Mrs. C. E. Chisum read a verse which in cluded the names and some of the accomplishments of the past presidents, and as they were mentioned, each was presented a handkerchief nosegay. Mrs. L. Gilman presided. Mrs. Dunn's second grade room won the room count. A committee was named to nominate officers for the com ing year. - Family Leaves For Ft. Benning ' Mrs. Horace Carter and chil dren, Julia Lee and Christopher, left last week for Columbus, Ga., to join Captain Carter who is stationed at Ft. Benning. The family returned to the states from Formosa in December and Mrs. Carter and the children have been living at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Lovejoy, 609 Catherine street. She is the former Miss Jerrilee Lovejoy. -;. . r": Captain Carters next assign ment is to be at Camp Mead, Md., where it is expected they will move next month. Medford Student Pledges Fraternity - John M .Walker, junior in business administration at the University of Oregon,? has been pledged by Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Young Walker is en rolled .in .business administra tion. He was graduated from Medford High school in 1948 and has served four years in the United States Marine corps. District Session Of Garden Clubs Set For Gold Hill Gold HillA change of meet ing date for. the next session of Siskiyou district, Oregon ' Fed eration of Garden clubls, was announced at a meeting of Gold Hill Garden club, held recently at the home of Mrs. Arthur Boye. "' The meeting will be held May 19 in the Gold Hill IOOF hall. The session was postponed a month due to conflicting dates. Mrs. Ed Knapp and ;, Mrs. Marie Klock were guests at the meeting of the Gold Hill club, and two hew members, Mrs. Elizabeth Hoffman - and Mrs. Clyde Kell, were introduced. Next meeting will be Feb ruary 18 at the home of Mrs. William Dickenson. 4 Business Women Plan Story Trip Around the World Medford Business and Profes sional Women's club will take a grand tour "Around the World" via anecdote at their meeting Thursday, February 17. The dessert meeting will be held at Roxy Ann Grange ' hall on Spring street at 7:30 p.m. ';; Mrs. Ivah Murray, chairman of the international relations committee, assisted by Mrs. Enid Rankin, Mrs. Bertha Haskins, Mrs. Anna 'Bengston and Mrs. Eva Segessenman will be in charge of the program. . Mrs. Murray and Mrs. Rankin will also display souvenirs from the various countries they visit ed last year.
