Oregon WCTU Will Hold Session Here An invitation to Oregon "Wo rn e n ' s Christian Temperance union to meet here for a state convention September 7 through 9 has been accepted, the local union announced last week. A letter of acceptance was read during a meeting Thursday of the Medford union at Girls Com' munity club. Mrs. Glen Hayes of Evanston I1L, the national president of the union, will be the main speaker at the convention. The Rev. E. J. Gilstarp was main speaker for the afternoon The Rev. R. W. Hum gave the devotionals and Edward Taylor furnished special music in the patriotic theme in observance of Lincoln's and Washington's birthdays. He also provided mu sic for a memorial service for the founder of the organization, Frances E. Willard. Mrs. Olaf Severson, the pro gram director, presented the speaker, and Mrs. G. O. Sanden gave a brief tribute to the founder. She pointed out that a statue of Frances E. Willard is the only statue of a woman in the Hall of Fame at Washington, D.C. and that many buildings and places have been named in her honor. Patriotic colors were used to decorate the refreshment table. Miss Elizabeth Burr, Mrs. Vivian Kyker and Mrs. H. G. Wilson were in charge. Members are asked to save items for a rummage sale which is planned. I A new Loyal Temperance leg ion was organized recently by Mrs. E. J. Gilstrap. About 20 young persons attended. The of ficers elected are Bruce Fowler, president; Frank Schuchard, vice-president; Frances Fowler, secretary; Charles Henney, treas urer and Jeff Beatty, yell leader. Of ,interest in the Gold Hill and Rogue River vicinities is news of the wedding January 28 of Miss Wanda May Wilde, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John I. Wilde, route 2, box 590-K, Grants Pass, and Robert LeRoy McCormick, son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. McCormick, route 2, box 590-J, Grants Pass. The Rev. Hugo Gurney of the Grants Pass St. Paul's Lu theran church officiated for the double-ring ceremony, held in Shan Creek Grange hall. Mrs. Jack Henderson, Gold Hill, served as matron-of-honor and Kenneth McCormick, broth er of the bridegroom acted as best man. The ushers, were JackieMcCormick, another broth er of the bridegroom, and Bobby Wilde, brother of the bride. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a yellow nylon dotted Swiss gown and her headpiece was of yellow car nations.- She carried a single orchid on a white . Bible. Mrs. Henderson's gown was of blue faille and her flowers were pink rosebuds formed in a corsage. Music was furnished by Mrs LeRoy Barnes, Miss Nancy Bul- lard and Miss Janet Sutton. Mothers of : the bride and bridegroom wore navy blue dresses and their , accessories were white. Both wore corsages of white carnations. Miss Darlene Lehm and Miss Lorna Thompson poured the cof fee and punch served during the reception in the Grange dining room. Miss Lucille Biles, a cous in of the bride -was in charge of the guest book. Out-of-town, guests from Gold Hill included Mr. and "Mrs. R. W. Dusenberry, maternal grand parents of the bride; Raymond Dusenberry, the bride's uncle; Mrs. A. W. Kendall, aunt of the bride and her children, James, Kenneth and Kerry; Mrs. Ivan "Smith, the bride's great aunt, and Mrs. Nora Wait, great-great-aunt of the bride. From Murphy were Mr. and Mrs. Bob Tucker - The bride is a 1954 graduate from Grants Pass high school and the bridegroom was gradu ated from the same school in 1953. He is to return February 17 to. Treasure Island, San Fran cisco, for reassignment with the Navy.-He has been on duty with the flagship of the 7th fleet. Medford Sojourners Celebrate , 15th Anniversary at Luncheon r Medford Sojourners club celebrated the 15th anniversary of organization with a lunclfeon at the Medford hotel Thursday. Nearly 70 members, inactive members and guests were present. Louengborg, Mrs. George president, introduced charter members, Mrs. Bren H. Sljarcher, and Mrs. C. M. Starnes, 'Grants Pass, and six past presidents, Mrs. C. M. Lee, Mrs. F. E. Can trill, Mrs. E. F. Cronin, Mrs. B. B. Coleman, Mrs. H. J. Boyd and Mrs. Ted Quinn. All were seat ed at the honor table and each presented with a carnation cor sage. ' . A large decorated birthday cake centered the table and oth er decorations were cupids mail ing a valentine and valentine trees. Red cupid name tags were used for all guests. . Mrs. C. M. Lee spoke, giving the history of the club and wel coming all newcomers ,to the club. Medford Senior High school Madrigal singers, directed by Allan Lehl," sang three songs for the group. . Mounted Troop Captain Names New Chairmen Mrs. Clarence Dodge, captain of the Ladies Mounted troop. auxiliary to the Jackson County Mounted Sheriff's posse, an nounced the appointments of the standing committee chair men during a meeting of the group Tuesday evening. The ses sion was held at the club house at the posse grounds. Mrs. Mary H. Brown heads the entertainment committee: Mrs. Gordon Koehler, hostesses: Miss Montana Emerson, rides; Mrs. O. D. Missionary Circle To Meet on Monday A program concerning Portu gal will be conducted Monday, February 14, during a meeting of Gorsline missionary circle of the First . Baptist church. Mrs. Helmar T. Tinseth, 1300 Queen Anne avenue, will be the host ess in her home. Mrs. William Uhrine will be in charge of the program. The business session is to open at 7:45 p.m. . Devotions are being planned by Mrs. Kennejth Bramhall. The White Cross items to be taken to the meeting this session are pastel colored wash cloths. Members also are to take items of clothing and other ar ticles which have been signed for and which are to be sent to the Ralph Gorslines. The articles should be gift wrapped. Scissors will be required for White Cross work.. Students Speak For Parents' Club On Government A p a n e 1 discussion by. the eighth grade students of St. Mary's . academy opened the February meeting of the Par ents club of St. Mary's Grade school Monday evening. Preceding the discussion the entire class recited the pream ble to the' United States con stitution. The members of " the panel traced the origin of our self-government from its begin nings in old England, through its development in early Amer ica and finally leading to the constitution as it is today. Chairman of .the: panel . was Mary LaBar and members were Sharon Roberts, Molly Re vis, Nancy Beaton, Constance Soko lowski, Karen Fisher, Lawrence Espey, Robert Farra, Paul.Pav lat and Paul Smith. " After the discussion the class sang the national anthem. The meetmg was conducted by the vice-president, Charles Hill. Plans ; were made for a money-raising social (to be held March 20 and a committee was formed to work on it. . The Rev. Charles Scott closed the meeting with a prayer. Officers Announce Change in Meeting For Rogue-Elk Unit Rogue. Elk A change in meeting dafe and schedule of the day's session have been an nounced for members of the Rogue-Elk Home Extension unit. The meeting will be held Thurs day, February 24 instead of Feb ruary 16, and the project les son will open at 10:30 a.m. It will be conducted by Miss Jean Brooks. The business session will be held during the - afternoon, of ficers pointed out. The meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Chester Wil son on Elk Creek road and the lesson will concern good weight for good health.
