Jf KIWANIAN8 NAMED ON COMMITTEES Three members of Medford' Kiwanis club have been named on committees of the Paci- fic Northwest district of Kiwanis Interna tionaL They are E. Ronald Rice, left, Kiwa nis education and fellowship chairman; par ell 'Huson, center, attendance, and C. Lyall Fidler, right, , public relations committee. They were named by Fred Rounds, Pullman, ' Wash., governor of - the district which in cludes, Oregon, Washington, British Colum bia, Alaska and part of Idaho. The Medford club has been ' receiving increasing recogni tion in the district and in the international organization. Rice is a past president of the' local dub, Fidler as served as vice-president and Huson is secretary-treasurer. Several March off Dimes Projects Slated in City During Week End Several projects for benefit of the March of Dimes have been scheduled in the Medford area for the week end. Heading the list is the Mardi Gras party at the Pioneer room of the Jack son hotel Saturday- night. Mu sic for dancing will be by John ny Lusk and his band and enter tainment will be provided. A 900-pound steer will be given away during the evening, which also includes cutting, wrapping and a year's free locker rental. The party is open to the public. Through efforts of the local Moose lodge, ' several stations plan to aid the campaign. for funds ' to . combat polio during the day Saturday. Slations Participating t , Weter and Olson service sta tions will give the grosseceipts from their lubrication rack; Gil bert service station will give the entire net profits during the day. Rogue Service and Supply will give the profits on gasoline sales during Saturday. Crocker Brothers service station will give the gross receipts from their wash rack during the day. Medford Bowling Lanes has been . conducting a league par ticipation event all week. : ft Stan's Y club will, turn over that business oa Tuesday, Feb. 1, with all net profits going to the March of Dimes. Moose Lodge members : are selling script for use at the club that njght and members will assist at the club, where ; the cover charge will be a contribution to the campaign. Regular . em ployees at the club are donating their services that night. . Johnson's service station is giving gross receipts from lub rication jobs today. StMr Giveaway The steer giveaway will be conducted by the Junior Cham ber of Commerce at Main st. and Central ave. all day Satur day. Members of Crater Lions auxiliary will conduct a side- Hearing in Real Esfefe Case Delayed ; A hearing on a demurrer in a real estate license case, set for today, has been postponed, ac cording' to Edward Kelly,, at torney for the defendant. : The demurrer was filed in answer to a charge that W. R. Mitchell, 56, of 3410 North Pa cific highway, engaged in busi ness las a real - estate broker, without first having secured a license. The Eagles Lodge Milk o' Dimes will again be held at the new First National Bank building all day Saturday. Oregon still leads in the Milk o' Dimes with $57.95. Nothing has yet been contributed in the bottles representing Georgia and District of Columbia. Those par ticipating are asked to place a coin in the bottles representing the state of their birth. A March of Dimes dance will be held Saturday night at Phoe nix Community hall and a square dance will be held the same night at Camp CorraL Members of the 20-30 club will man the Jack Arnold serv ice station all day Sunday with proceeds going to the polio fund. . A Buckaroo breakfast, spon sored by the Medford Trail Rid ers, will be held at Smith barn on Griffin Creek road Sunday from 8 a.m. until noon with re ceipts going to the polio cam paign. Medford, Oregon Nam Addxsss Phone Number A contribution to tha March of Dimes would be welcome Sandra Jevett Names Polio Mystery Man; New Contest Started Sandra Jewett, daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Alan Jewett, 1104 Queen Anne ave., correctly-identified the March of Dimes Mys tery Man last night as Mayor Earl Miller of Medford. .Bob Smith, March of Dimes chairman, has announced the clues for a new Mystery, Man Ashland Elks Plan Lounge Addition Ashland Plans for a con struction program, to add a large area to the present Elks building in downtown Ashland, has. been announced by the Elks lodge here. The plan calls for using the site of the former Lithia theater destroyed by fire a few years ago, on which to build a conJ crete structure as an addition to the present building. The, addi tion would be used as a lounge. Cost estimates run to about $40,000 to $50,000. The lodge authorized its officers to spend up to $50,000. for building and equipment. Approval - of the state Elks association : is being sought, so work can begin as scon as possible, and perhaps be completed in time for a state Elks meeting scheduled here in June. 'Shovel Burglar' Gels Five Years in Prison Portland U.F?) Rolland J. McDonald, the so-called "Shovel Burglar" who robbed more than 300 Portland" homes during the last several years, was sentenced yesterday to five years in the state penitentiary; '.. McDonald earned his nickname by using a shovel to force entry contest. Library Board Honors Longtime Member A resolution honoring the late Mrs. Ella Cochran; for many years a member of ' the Medford Library board, was adopted by the board at its Jan uary meeting this week. The resolution expressed ap preciation for her long and faithful service to the Medford library. The board also approved the purchase of a state flag, to fly under .the American flag from the flag pole In front of the library. Work on the 1955-56 budget REVEREND AND ST.
