TWELVE MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Sanitation From Inadequate Sewage Said Top Health Sanitation problems resulting from inadequate sewage disposal in many areas of Jackson county was discussed at a meeting of the board of directors of the Jackson County Public Health association held recently. . Dr. A. E. Merkel, county health officer, stressed the. ser iousness of the sanitation prob lem, which affects the health of every resident in the county. Mrs. Chester Guches,- president of the association, pointed . out that a study of health conditions in tne county, made last year Patterson's Plan . John Hounsell of Hood River and Eugene Allen of , Portland in presenting : a . measure , that would eliminate federal personal income taxes as an allowable de duction wnen paying state in " come tax. Gov. Mrs. Walter Bish, chairman of the mental health committee, stated that recent activities of this committee included a series of film forums and discussion groups for parents of teen-age children teachers and youth di rectors. She reported good par ticipation in the forums, which are held in Rogue River, Eagle Point, Ashland and Medford. Mrs. R. H. Denning, chairman for television programs, out lined programs -to . be given on KBES-TV during the next three months featuring health of the school age' child with members of the State .Board of. Health and educators participating. Dr. Lee Mellish, representing the dental society on the board, stated results of the recent den tal survey made in the ; county will probably indicate Jackson and Josephine counties to have the highest dental decay rate in the state. . He also reported on the status of the educational pro grams for fluoridation of mu nicipal water supplies- The Health association's or ganization of parents of men tally retarded children was asked to be represented on a state-wide planning committee, Mrs. Robert Minear, chairman, stated. Glenn Taylor is confined to his bed with a muscular infec tion of, the leg. which started from a bruise he received while playing in gym at school. Linda' Bowen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bowen is show ing signs of improvement. She is able to move her feet and legs and her mother says she knows : that her - daughter will walk again. Frank McLaughlin has denied a motion by the Inter national Longshoremen's -and Warehousemen's Union to - dis miss their suit with the Juneau Spruce Company of Alaska.: . The ILWU; filed the motion, on grounds: the statute of limi tations had expired on the com pany's efforts to collect a judg ment for more than one million dollars from the union.
