Sanitation problems resulting
from inadequate sewage disposal
in many areas of Jackson county
was discussed at a meeting of
the board of directors of the
Jackson County Public Health
association held recently.
. Dr. A. E. Merkel, county
health officer, stressed the. ser
iousness of the sanitation prob
lem, which affects the health of
every resident in the county.

of the association, pointed . out
that a study of health conditions
in tne county, made last year

lars in Oregon finances for the

chest jX-ray program, since pur
chase of the x-ray machinery for
the two largest county hospitals.
She stated 13 people have been
recalled ' for; further study of
chest 'conditions since opening
of the out-patient clinic at Com
munity hospital on Dec 1. .

Mrs. Walter Bish, chairman of
the mental health committee,
stated that recent activities of
this committee included a series
of film forums and discussion
groups for parents of teen-age
children teachers and youth di
rectors. She reported good par
ticipation in the forums, which
are held in Rogue River, Eagle
Point, Ashland and Medford.

KBES-TV during the next three
months featuring health of the
school age' child with members
of the State .Board of. Health
and educators participating.
Dr. Lee Mellish, representing
the dental society on the board,
stated results of the recent den
tal survey made in the ; county
will probably indicate Jackson
and Josephine counties to have
the highest dental decay rate in
the state. . He also reported on
the status of the educational pro
grams for fluoridation of mu
nicipal water supplies-

The contest which has' been
going on between the 6, 7, and
8th grades in th e Gold Hill
grade school to raise funds for
the March of Dimes has been
completed with - the. seventh
grade coming out ahead by a
small margin. Together' - the
three grades raised in the neigh
borhood of $100. The winners
are being treated to an ice cream
party sponsored by the student

has been very ill with bronchial
pneumonia and who spent one

returned to school again.
Glenn Taylor is confined to
his bed with a muscular infec
tion of, the leg. which started
from a bruise he received while
playing in gym at school.
Linda' Bowen, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Bowen is show
ing signs of improvement. She
is able to move her feet and
legs and her mother says she
knows : that her - daughter will
walk again. Linda fell from a
tree in October while climbing
up to rescue her cat. She broke
her back in doing so and under
went surgery at Community hos
pital where she was for over two
months.

Judge J. Frank McLaughlin has
denied a motion by the Inter
national Longshoremen's -and
Warehousemen's Union to - dis
miss their suit with the Juneau
Spruce Company of Alaska.: .
The ILWU; filed the motion,
on grounds: the statute of limi
tations had expired on the com
pany's efforts to collect a judg
ment for more than one million
dollars from the union.
The company was awarded a
$750,000 .judgment against the
ILWU. The, judgment has since
increased to more than one mil-;
lion dollars because of interest.
