twzlti MroroRD (oiusaom kail trxbuite mi Dixon-Yates Contract Attack Renewed by Democrat Opponents ." Washington U,R) Demo crats are quietly preparing a legislative one-two punch which they hope will knock out the controversial Dixon-Yates power contract. The renewed ' Democratic at tack on the contract may pro duce the first major battle of the new session. Their first move will be to introduce a resolution express- in g the sense of Congress that the contract should be voided. Terry Breref on To Visit France As YMCA Delegate Terry Brereton, son of Ar thur Brereton, 161 Ross lane, has been named a delegate to the Centennial World cdnference of the World Alliance of YM CA's, to be held in August at Paris, France, it was announced today. . The Medford high school stu dent will represent the Medford, Ashland, Klamath Falls, and Boseburg YMCAs. After being selected by the southern Oregon YMCAs, his application was sent to the Pacific Northwest Area council in Seattle, which se lected him front a group of ap- - plicants from Idaho, Washing' . ton, and Oregon. J Based on Leadership Medford YMCA officials state that the choice was based on the Medford youth's "outstanding leadership ability as demon strated in the YMCA's programs .. and at YMCA camp, where he acted as counselor, and on his scholastic record and high qual ities; of character." Terry, who will be one of 20 boys and girls chosen to repre- , sent the Pacific northwest, is active in YMCA i programs in cluding Ki-Y and YMCA swim ming instruction. He is a mem ber of the high school band and Phi-Chem, the high school chem istry club, r 10.000 To Attend An estimated 10,000 represen tatives of 78 countries will at . tend the conference, scheduled for August 12 to 23. The Med ford boy will take part in the division for older boys and girls. The World Alliance of YMCAs was formed in 1855, when a group of 99 young men repre ; senting the YMCAs of eight na tions, met in Paris and set up the world wide organization. Th second may be a move to withhold funds for government payments under the contract. The resolution against Dixon- Yates is expected soon during the early lull in the Senate and House. Informed sources report ed the resolution idea already has been cleared with H o use speaker Sam Rayburn. Senate Democratic leader .ynoon a, Johnson (D-Tex.), has been ad vised of the plan but will be consulted further before it goes forward, they said. The two legislative moves have v been discussed - at an unannounced meeting of Demo crats who serve on the Congres sional Atomic Energy commit tee. . , ' Rep. Chet Holifield (D-Calif.), an outspoken' critic of the con tract, will introduce the resolu tion expressing the sense of the Congress that execution of the contract would be "inimical," to the nation's best interests. The resolution will state that the contract should be withdrawn before February 15 so that no cancellation charges, will be in curred, he said.; . . It will be, clear warning to the AEC that they will have trouble on their appropriations should they persist in putting the contract . into effect," Holi field said. . . Would Kill Contract Another, committee member, who asked that he not be nam ed, said : refusal of : the ; Atomic Energy- commission to comply with such a resolution would, in effect, kill the contract. He con ceded that the resolution, which is not signed by the President, would, not have the full force of law. ' But he said congress, tradition ally touchy about its powers, would hot vote funds to support a program which had been op posed by votes of the Senate and House. Driver Got Excited; ' . Cops Finally Nab Him Houston, Tex. U.R) Patrol men M. L. Singleton and Leroy Mouser, traveling 85 miles an hour, fired 18 shots before they halted Vastine Fenix, 21. H Fenix, arrested for running 10 red lights, eight stop signs and going 85 miles an hour in a 30 mile zone, told the officers, "I just got excited."
