FOUR MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Sunday Jemmy 1 2S8S Ruby Joan Hayes Becomes Bride Of Norman Loop Miss Ruby Joan Hayes became the bride of Norman Monroe Loon in a ceremony held at ' Sacred Heart Catholic church here December 29. The newly- weds are now living at 610 South Holly street. The bride is a daughter of Martin A. Hayes and the late Mrs. Hayes, 617 Pine street, and the bridegroom is a son oi Mr. and Mrs. Amos C. Loop, 1200 Withington street. The double-ring ceremony was read at two o'clock in the after noon bv the Rev. . Charles J. Scott with a small number of family members and close friends in attendance.' T Given in- marriage - by her father, the bride wore an ankle- length gown of white taffeta with pearl trim. Her bouquet was of white carnations :- and steohanotis.- Her honor attend ant, Mrs. Paul E. : Read, wore sown of lavender taffeta and net with taffeta jacket and her bou- auet and headdress were of pmK and white carnations. For her son's wedding Mrs. Loop wore a nink dress with corsage of roses. Kenneth Degerness was best man for the bridegroom and ushers were Richard David Hayes, brother of the bride, and John Relling. . Carol .Robinson "provided or gan music and the church 5 was decorated with poinsettias. . Mr. and Mrs. Loop made a wedding trip to Eugene and were honored at a wedding .dinner given by the bride's brother-in- law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. a. J. Rosenthal, Cottage Grove. Ten guests attended. '' The; bride, a graduate of St. Mary's school here, is an oper ator in the traffic division of the Pacific Telephone and Tele graph company in Medford. Mr. Loop, a graduate of Medf Ord High school with the class of .1951, is with the Medford cor poration. Council Plans PTA Workshops Workshops on' several phases of Parent-Teacher work will be conducted January 19 when the Jackson County Council of Parent-Teachers associations will meet for an all-day session in Eagle Point Grange halL The meeting will open at 10:15 a.m., and continue through 2:30 p.m. The workshops will be con ducted during the morning on the subjects of health, founders' day, rural counseling and-jcity counseling. The Negro contralto, first of her race to sing a leading role with the 71-year-old company, re ceived a loud and prolonged ova tion from the "standing room only" audience when she ap pear ed" Friday night as the sor ceress, Ulrica, "in a revival of Verdi's "Un Ballo in Maschera" Masked Ball. Miss Anderson, 47, appeared in only one scene the second, of the first act and sang her role with warmth and feeling. - . Paul Henry Lang, music critic for.thelNew York Herald Trib une, said "It was a pleasure to see Marian Anderson,' the distin guished NegrQ contralto,' on our great operatic stage; an honor and a privilege for us' long overdue. "Miss Anderson, who was ac claimed with frenetic applause, is to be commended especially for the excellent part she took in the - complicated ensembles." Olin Downes of the New York Times said "History was made last night, when Miss Anderson sang for the first time .inrthe Metropolitan . Opera House and for the first time in opera on any stage." Downes said Miss Anderson's role was a difficult one requir ing "a dramatic personality as well as sumptuous singing." ". . . Mrs. Jack Ingram was elected second vice-president by Crater Lions auxiliary at a meeting, January 5 in the American Le gion hall. Mrs. Ingram replaced Mrs.' Tom Shoop, who recently resigned from the vice-presiden-cy. . Club membership was in creased to 26 by a new member, Mrs. John Russell. After a report given by Mrs. Abner Gressett of the ways and means committee, the auxiliary voted to sponsor a voluntary "sidewalk toll" project in down town Medford . Saturday, Jan uary 15, in order to raise money for the March of Dimes cam paign. Mrs. Lloyd Evans, chair man of this event, has as com mittee members Mrs. Earl Cris mon, Mrs. C. Marvin Hart and Mrs. George Potucek. Plans for social activities in February - include an intexclub "get acquainted" card party for Medford Lady Lions and Crater Lions auxiliary, and a "Come As A Song" valentine dance "for club" members and their husbands. Committee mem bers of the card party project are Mrs. Robert B. Morris, chairman, Mrs.' Willard Buchan an, Mrs. Clayton George and Mrs. Wendell Vaughn.
