All of the children will participate, and the program will begin at 7:30 p.m. The welcome will be given by Gary Winetrout, A president of West Side student body. v The West Side Kindergarten, under the direction of Mrs. Olivia Ry erson, will present the playlet, "The Christmas Candle." First and second grade pupils will sing several Christmas songs, pupils of the intermediate grades will give several selec tions on their symphonettes, and Edward Root will present a group of his pupils in piano solos, trumpet ensemble and 'orchestra. This will be their first appearance.' A pageant, 'Still Shines the Star" by Karin Asbrand will be given by the intermediate and upper grades. Mrs. Corinne Rob bins is in charge of the program. George Marsters is lighting tech nician and has charge of stage properties. Mrs. Ber ha Haskins is in charge of costumes and pro grams. At the close of the program Santa will make his appearance and have a treat for the young children. Thursday morning the chil dren will hold room parties which will be followed by a Christmas dinner. School closes at 2 p.m. for the holidays and will re-convene - January 3. . - . Officers Elected By,Social Club Electa Social club held elec tion of officers at a recent meet ing. Mrs. Nina Chandler was named president, Mrs. Clara Franklin,! vice-president and Mrs. Dana Bowers, secretary treasurer. Instead of holding the usual gift exchange, each woman do nated cash toward the proposed new Girls Community . clubhouse- . Refreshments were served and cards concluded the afternoori. Tuesday, December 21, 1954 Juveniles Hold Christmas Event Juveniles of the Royal Neieh bors of America lodge presented a Christmas program December 16 at the Pythian building. Jerry and Danny Rawstern opened the program with a reci tation "Greetings to You". San dra and Sharon Laing gave a dance number, and a recitation by Roberta Pace was followed by a pantomime, "The Christ mas Story." Other numbers on the pro gram were a recitation by Rod- ney Pace; vocal solo, Claudia Potts; recitation, Paula Potts; song by Kathy Read, Karen and Sharon Hugdahl; recitation, Te resa Patten: piano solos, Cecile Gidney; Bible verses and duet, Sharon and Karen Hugdahl; mu strumental duet, Freda Mae and Rosemary Rawstern. Mrs. Irvin Patten is director of the juvenile group. The program was followed by a visit from Santa Claus, who distirbuted treats for the chil dren. Refreshments were served. " ". Newlyweds Here To Visit Family Mr. and Mrs. Kent Peters are guests this week of Mr. Peters' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Peters. Mrs. Peters is the former Eva Mae Gates, and her wedding to Mr.- Peters took place December 10 in Vancouver, Wash., at First Methodist church. Among the wedding guests were the bridegroom's parents and his brother-in-law and sis ter, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hopkins, Grants Pass. Hopewells Leave For Trip East Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hopewell and children, Cy and Jeffrey, are to leave by United Air lines today for the east coast where they will visit parents of both Mr. and Mrs. Hopewell. . First they will visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Seaver at Lexington, Mass., and then with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed ward C. Ashworth, Great Bar- rington, Mass. The family will return here by car. They plan to be away about three weeks. . Oak Grove School To Hold Program SOC QAK 3A The annual Oak Grove school Christmas program will be pre sented at 8 p. m. in the school gymnasium Wednesday, Decem ber 22. All 194 students enrolled in school will participate in the program in some way, it is stated. . All students of the first four grades will meet in their re spective classrooms at, least twenty minutes before 8 p. m. and the program - will start promptly at 8 o'clock. Santa has promised, to pay a visit exactly at 9 p. m. and will have treats for all the boys and girls. All students will have an extra hour to "sleep in" on Thursday, as classes will convene at 10 a. m. rather than the usual hour. This is a tradition of , some 12 years at Oak Grove. Student room parties and exchange pf gifts will start at 12:30 p. m. All grades will have a short noon hour, and will be dismissed for the holidays at 1:30 p. m. College Student Visits Parents Miss Shirley Lvnch. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Lynch, 139 Kenwood avenue, has arriv ed from Lewis and Clark col lege, Portland, to spend the hol- iaays witn ner parents. . Miss Lynch is a member nf the freshman assembly commit tee, is-sergeant-at-arms for the freshman class and permanent representative on the student council. Miss Lynch is also a member of the a cappella choir which will make the annual tour in the spring.
