Told To B Careful He told Montgomery to "be careful in collecting the German arms, to stack them so 1jhat they could easily be issued again 10 the German soldiers whom we should have to work with if the Soviet advance continued." Members of Parliament Eman uel Shinwell, former defense minister in the Labor govern ment of 1945-51, said he would ask Churchill why he sent such a message and whether he con sulted any of the other ministers of the wartime coalition Cabinet before sending it. Let Facts Be Known It was Shinwell who said last Saturday in a speech at Murton, "Before we condemn Churchill about his remarkable disclosure, let the full facts be known." "Was there some trouble with the Russians before the war ended?" Shinewell asked at Murton. "Were they taking ad vantage of the situation to push their own territorial claims be yond any justification?" Pravda, organ of the Commu nist party, said in Moscow that Churchill's revelations branded him as "two faced." Churchill Portrait Causes Controversy London (U.R) A contro versy arose in Britain today over Prime Minister Winston. Church ill's 80th birthday portrait; with descriptions ranging from "beau tiful" to "a study in lumbago." Churchill. himself was quoted as quipping that "It makes me look half-witted, which I ain't." The portrait, painted by Gra ham Sutherland, was unveiled in Westminster hall Tuesday during - ceremonies honoring Churchill. ' It shows Churchill ' wrinkled and sitting heavily in a chair with his chin thrust forward. He is ,a frowning Chhurchill, with none of the cherubic features of the "old man's" countenance in evidence. War Veteran Killed By Metal at Sawmill Forest Grove i(U.R) Howard T. Jacobs, 24-year-old veteran of the Korean conflict, was killed yesterday when he was struck in the neck by a piece of metal from an edger in a sawmill at Bacona. (International) '- Season's First Snowstorm Leaves Highways Packed Br UNITED PRESS ; The season's first major snow storm rolled eastward with di minished strength today, leaving a wake of snow-packed highways arid zero temperatures. The storm, which came blow ing out of the Rocky Mountains, was centered in the Midwest early today. It brought snow to Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Iowa and Illinois and caused at least three traffic deaths. An Alaskan blizzard noith of Anchorage " crippled the search for two missing light planes. . The - snowstorm struck hard est in the Western mountain states, , piling up to 20 inches deep in the higher elevations. Temperatures ranging from .zero to the teens were common on Colorado and Wyoming today. The cold snap kept highways packed with snow and Colorado reported five dead in traffic ac cidents1 due to slippery roads since Sunday.- : Meanwhile the .Weather Bureau at Denver said a new snowstorm was gathering strength and would hit tomor row. It was expected to drive into the eastern plains by tomor row night. . Arraignment Delayed On Manslaughter Charge Cathlamet,' Wash. : U.R) Arraignment of Mr. and Mrs. John T. Hart, Cathlamet, who are charged with manslaughter in' the death of their three-year-old son, has been delayed until Dec. 27. . t i Wahkiakum County Superior Judge John L. Lagenbach grant ed the delay on the plea of the 18-year-old couple's defense at torneys who asked for more time to gather information in the case. '. Mr. and Mrs. Hart are cnarged with manslaughter, through fail ure ' to provide proper care for their son, John Patrick, who was found dead in his bed Oct. 27.
