Picnic Area To Be Near Domiciliary Buildings at Camp Camp White Plans for land scaping of the picnic area ad joining the domiciliary buildings have been completed, according to Frank Glonning, special serv ices chief. Trees, barbecue pits, hedges and a suitable entrance are in cluded in the scheme arranged by Elwood Stanfield, landscape artist of Medford, and reduced to a plan by the Engineering di vision. Water will be piped to the area and will be available by next June, it was stated. Grass is to be planted this spring. To Plant Tree Frieda Lawrence, of the Wom en's Relief Corps, heads the com mittee of the VAVS working on this project. Tree planting will start at once, it was reported, and various organizations will assume charge of the . specific improvements that are to be made. Marion Cech and Mable Nich olson, of the American Gold Star Mothers, will each donate a pic nic table. The American Legion Auxiliary, the VFW Auxiliary and the Military Order of Lady F"ugs agreed to provide trees. The Garden clubs are expected to obtain the shrubbery and other organizations likewise of fered services in developing the project. The planting and conditioning of the grounds will be handled by the VA engineers. i Kiwanians Hear SWAP Singers Songs written by members of the Song Writers, Arrangers and Publishers, a southern Oregon organization, were sung Wednes day by two Ashland women at the luncheon meeting of Med ford Kiwanis club. Mrs. Nancy Kaylor and Mrs. Betty Jo Caldwell each sang a solo and presented two duets. They were accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Ernestine Hartley, also of Ashland. Mrs. Kaylor sang "It's a Beau tiful Morning," written by Walter Reece and Wally Sousa. Mrs. Caldwell's selection was "Working and Dreaming." The writer was Earl McBee. Duets were "Once I Heard a Gypsy Singing," by Lillian Barney, and "If I Were a Needle and You Were a Thread,!' by Mrs. Hartley and Pearl Morava. John Duffy introduced the women and announced the num bers. The luncheon was at Rogue Valley Country club. Finds Life Dull, Wants To Join Women's Service Life in the women's services of the armed forces has been glamorized by stories and movies to the point where many girls think it is all play and no work. Joining a branch of the service is a way of escape to one young woman, who finds her present job not to her liking. She writes: (Q) "My problem is on that seems to be quit common with girls in my position. That is, should I leave my of ice job, which is very boring, and join on of the women's services? Many of my girl friends have told me that the majority of people look down on girls in the service and that their reputation is not of in best. I should like your opin ion on this subject." (A) Let me say, first and most strongly, that I think your girl friends are completely wrong when : they say that "the ma jority of peo ple look down on girls in the service," and that the repu tations of these girls is "not of the best." And some women who go into the services do not conduct them selves as they should. But they are m the minority and are us ually discharged. Now, about your own decis ion: Just being bored with your present job is no reason for join ing one of the women's services. Because your training and exper ience have been in the line of office work, the chances are that you would be assigned to simi lar work in the service. Find out what the qualifica tions are and how much chance you wouia nave ot being ac cepted. Then find out, on the basis of your training and ex perience, what kind of work you would be likely to do. With such information, to serve as a basis for making your decision, you will know whether this is what you really want to do or whether you merely want to change to another job in civil ian life. Heart Patient Dies On Mercy Plane' A heart patient being taken to Portland by a Mercy Flights, Inc., air ambulance plane, died shortly before the plane arrived in Medford yesterday afternoon. She was Mrs. Cheri Cronn, 39, Portland, who had been conva lescing from a respiratory ail ment at Furnace Creek inn, in Death Valley. She suffered a se rious heart attack while there, and the mercy plane was called to take her to Portland for emer gency treatment. Her husband, Richard, and a nurse were also on the flight. , George Milligan piloted the plane from Medford to Death Valley, leaving here shortly after midnight and returning about 2 p.m. Lee Flink flew the trip from Medford to Port land and back. Mrs. Cronn was the 299th pa tient carried by the non-profit air ambulance corporation. Hot Coffee Service Offered by Cafe Here Bud and Lucille's cafe, 1182 Court st., has announced the start of a hot coffee service for parties, dinners, picnics, lodge meetings and other occasions. Two, three and five gallon stain less steel thermos containers with serving faucets are used. The service was first used at a recent football game. Some companies are using the service for "coffee-breaks" for em ployees so they need not leave the premises. Uninjured Wreck Victim So Right in Statement Pontypool, Wales (U.R) -A speeding freight train crashed into a car. Wednesday and knocked it 100 yards down the tracks. Coal miner Ernest Christopher Toms stepped uninjured from the car wreckage.. "That was a near thing," he observed. Multiple Official On Well-Earned Leave Shirley, Mass.
