Arkansas has finished its leasue season, which means SMU can clinch by beat- ing Baylor this week and Texas Christian next week. Atlantic Coast Duke leads with 2-0-0 but must beat South Carolina, only team to beat Army, this week and North Caro lina next week, in order to nose out Maryland, which has finisn ed with 4-0-1 and North Caro lina, 3-1-0. The new loop will replace the Class A Western International T.eaeue which broke up at the end of this year's season. Representatives of teams m six cities signed articles of in corporation at a meeting here during the weekend. Art Pohi man, former Wenatchee mayor and president of the Wenatchee Chiefs, was named president and treasurer of the new league. Former WIL President Robert Abel of Tacoma was named act ing secretary of the Northwest League. He and Pohlman will represent the circuit .at the Pro fessional Baseball Association meeting next month in Houston, Texas. Legion Baseball Play-Off Set-Up Altered in State Albany (U.R) The Oregon American Legion Junior base ball setup has been revamped slightly to cut down on the num ber of districts and improve ine playoff system. The commissioners, meeting here yesterday, divided the state into four districts instead of the previous five. The new districts are Portland-Astoria, Eastern, Mid -Willamette valley and Southern Oregon.
