if TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Home Service Weds Couple In Montana Jacksonville . Of Interest here is news of' the wedding November 2 of Miss Mary Lou Lund and Dr. Robert A. Van Galder at Wolf Point, Mont. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Einar A. Lund, Wolf Point, and Dr. Van Galder, now en route to Japan, is a son of Mayor and Mrs. A. C. Van Galder, Jack sonville. The bride will leave soon to join her husband. They will live at Camp Fisher, near Kyoto, , Japan, for the next 18 months, while Dr. Van Galder, who is a lieutenant junior grade in the Navy, will be the camp dentist. The bride is a graduate of the Wolf Point High school and at tended the University of Mon tana at Missoula where she was affiliated with Alpha Phi soror ity. She received her degree in dental hygiene at the Univer sity of Oregon dental school and is a member of Alpha Kappa Gamma, national hygienists pro fessional fraternity. Since grad uation she has been with rrs Rogers and Stevenson at Eugene, Ore. , The bridegroom is a Medford Senior High school graduate and attended Southern Oregon col lege. He is affiliated with Alnha ; Phi Omega, Sigma Delta Sigma and Delta Phi honorary fratern ( ities, and received his bachelor of science degree from the Uni versity of Oregon. In June, 1954, he received a doctor's degree from the University- school of deAtistry where he was .affiliated with Psi Omega professional fra ternity. The home wedding was attend ed by only relatives and close friends and took place, at 7 o'clock in the evening. The Rev. Ralph L. .Okland of First Luth eran church performed the double ring ceremony. Mrs- Harold Thorsen, a sister of the bride, was matron of honor. Mr. Thorsen was best man " and Nancy Ann Thorsen, the bride's niece, was flower girl. The bride, given iri marriage by her father, wore a slate-blue dress with white accessories. She carried a lavender orchid and a white Bible. ' ' Mrs. Thorsen was dressed in navy blue; her corsage was of red and white roses. Mrs. Oklund' furnished the wedding songs accompanied by Mrs. L. W. Zimmerman, who also played the wedding marches. Decorations , included baskets of gold, brown and yellow chry santhemums and yellow tapers. An open house was held at the bride's home. Mrs.' Lucy Lyman Leaves for Texas Mrs. Lucy Lyman, 423 King street, left Friday night by plane for Dallas, Tex., where she will spend the Thanksgiving holidays with her nephew, Arthur Ly man Schoeni. Mr. Schoeni, who made his home here with his aunt as a boy, is how with Chance Vought Aircraft com pany in Texas as a public rela tions and publicity representa tive. v. Their hostess was Miss Colleen Hope, Med ford dancer who had studied with Mme. Dani lova a few years ago during the summer sea Party Observes 81st Birthday Mrs. Jessie Laing was honored in observance of her 81st birth day at a meeting Wednesday of the Mistletoe club at the Girls' Community club. A dessert luncheon was served. Decorations on each luncheon table included a centerpiece with tapers and flowers with birthday wishes. A biography of Mrs. Laing was, read . by Mrs. Carl Pearson. A reading was given by Mrs. Elsie Alexander. Mrs. Floyd Bewley presented a game. Mrs. Robert Gilman accompa nied for a group song. The honored guest was pre sented gifts and Mrs. Bewley won a prize. A brief business, session was held when a card party was planned for Monday, November 29 to be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Girls Community club. The event will be open to the public. A meeting scheduled for No vember , 24 has been? cancelled, and the next meeting will . be December 8. . Regent to Visit Medford Chapter Mrs. Albert H. Powers of Coos Bay, state regent of the Daugh ters of the American Revolution, will visit Medford soon. She will be honored by Crater Lake chap ter at a luncheon at Rogue Val-" ley Country club Saturday, No vember 20,- at 1 p. jo.;' This is the 35th anniversary of the local chapter. -The main ad dress will be delivered by Mrs. Powers. . Dinner Saturday First of Series n Central Point Mrs. Lillian Salade and Mrs. Marjorie Pitts entertained at their home Sat urday evening at a 7 o'clock din ner party. The dinner, a small event, is the first in a series of lb which they have planned as fall and winter events. (Classic studio) Club Speakers Tour Valley W itch First: Football Game The Peter- Ryhiners, who spoke for four Knife and Fork clubs in southern Oregon the past week, left Saturday for California after experiencing a' number of "firsts." The couple saw their first American foot ball game, watched western saw mills in operation for the first time and visited fruit packing and bulb shipping plants for the first time. The Ryhiners trap Rodes Honored At Housewarming Saturday Night Mr. and Mrs. George Rode were honored . at 3 surprise housewarming party given by a group of their friends last Sat urday night at the Rode's new home in the Griffin creek dis trict. " The visitors saw the Marsh-field-Medford game Friday, night as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gor don Warner. Both had seen English rugby, but never the American version of football. Following the game the two couples spent the remainder of the eveing at Rogue Valley Country club. Following the Knife-Fork club dinner Monday the Ryhiners were guests of Mr. and Mrs. M. N. Hogan. In Grants Pass Wed nesday the after-dinner recep tion was given by the Charles Cooleys and in Ashland Thurs day night the John Cottons en tertained for the couple. - The Warners took the speak ers to Klamath Falls Tuesday night for an engagement, and Wednesday night they were accompanied to Grants Pass by Mr. and Mrs. John S., Day and Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Eden. Fri day afternoon the visitors were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Dunbar Carpenter who gave a small tea in their honor. During day-time hours the couple toured the Bear Creek plant, the Warner's bulb plant, Elk Lumber company and Tim ber Products and visited the House of Mystery. 7 They also visited the Day's ranch where they saw American . bison and Chinese deer as well as the dom estic livestock. Mrs. Ryhiner, of East Indian and English parentage, was born and reared in Singapore and took three" year's of nurse's training before her marriage. Her husband, is a native of Switzerland. TheJlyhiners have no home and live'out of luggage which at present is distributed around the world in London, Calcutta, Buenos Aires, New York City, Miami, in Switzer land and traveling with them. Mrs. Ryhiner, packing to leave New York on the current speaking tour, found only one of a pair of her husband's shoes. The other had been left in Cal cutta for repair. ; . Riverside Club Names Winners for Last Play North-south position winners at the Wednesday play of the Riverside Bridge club were Mrs. W. W. Stevenson and Mrs. Helen Conroy, first, 94 points; Dr. and Mrs. George Dean, second, 93; Mrs. Marrs Gibbons and Mrs. Frank Baker, third, 90; and Mrs. Van Gilbert and Marion Milne, fourth, 88. East -west position winners were William Isaacs and Tommy Munds, first, 96; second, Mrs. B. L. Sanderson and Mrs. -B. B. Hughes, 94V&; third, Mrs. Lloyd Johnson and Mrs. George Choate, 90; and fourth, Mrs. Fred Purdin and Al Gilhousen, 87 VS. The group now meets regular ly at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Pruitt, 1012 South Holly street. Seven tables were in play at the last session. "I Home Ceremony Marries Couple , In Rogue River Rogue River Mr. and Mrs. Donald Roy Elder are now on their wedding trip to southern California following their mar riage November 6 at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Milton, route 1, box 418, Rogue River. The bride is the former Miss Edith June Milton and the bride groom is a son of Mrs. Ella El der, route 1, box 348, Gold Hill. Dr. Lloyd Barnett, Rogue Riv er, read the rites at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. Only a small group of relatives attended. Mrsw Byron Cummings, Grants Pass, a sister of the bride, , was the honor attendant. Newton Elder, a brother of the bridegroom, was best man. The bride was given in mar riage by hef father. She wore a plum colored wool dress with white angora trim and her cor sage was a purple orchid. ,Mrs. Cummings wore a navy blue dress with grey accessories and her flowers were white car nations. Chrysanthemums with stock and autumn leaves were used for decorating the Milton home. A reception was held also at the home of the bride's parents. The couple planned to be gone about two weeks on their trip and then will live near Rogue River. ' The bride attended Rogue Riv er high school and the bride groom wno aiso auenaea xne same high school and the Gold Hill high school, is employed by the Table Rock Lumber com' pany. Newlywed Couple Lives in Texas Lt. and Mrs. Jay F. Fischer are living in Waco, Tex., follow ing their wedding Saturday, September 11, at Phoenix, Ariz. The bride is the former Miss Signa Hannaf ord, daughter of Lt. Comdr. and. Mrs. E. L.. Han- naford. formely of Medford and now of Oxnard, Calif. - The bridegroom, a lieutenant in the United States Air Force, is from Brooklyn, N.Y. Mrs. Fischer attended Med ford schools and was enrolled one year at Puget Sound college and one year in Phoenix college. - Preholiday Party Event of Today One of the larger preholiday events will be a cocktail party this afternoon when Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Coleman and Mr. and Mrs. I. E. Staples entertain at the Coleman home at 1806 East Main street. About 150 guests are expected to call during the cocktail hours, 5 to 8:30 o'clock. Decorations will be done in a wine and silver theme. Kellys Home Mr. and Mrs. Edward C. The couple plans to visit Manila, Hongkong, Singapore, Thailand, Sumatra and other southeast Asian cities and countries. They will leave the ship at Singapore for side trips to Java and Bali, and later will re-embarK ai Singapore for the return trip by the same route., The travelers plan to be away four months. Festival Directors Plan Fifth Play For 1955 Season Ashland Five instead of the usual four plays will be in the repertoire for the coming Oregon Shakespearean festival season. the fifth play to be staged on two eveningsTiuTing the sea son is a work almost never staged, "Timon of Athens." When added to the plays al ready scheduled "Midsummer Night's Dream," ''Macbeth," "All's Well That Ends Well," anH "Henrv Sixth, nart 3," the Greek tragedy, directors believe, will make the coming season one of the most-exciting yet staged in Ashland. i For several years, "festival di rectors have discussed the idea of doing special performances of rarely-produced plays such, as possible to produce on a modern "Timon." Many of these are im- staee but should go well on the i festival's huge Elizabethan mod el. - " ' The play will be produced on Aucust 23 and August 29 this season. -4 ' Wilbur Hawley Honored at Party Wilbur Hawlev was honored at a surprise birthday event held at the Hawley home, 824 West 14th st., Friday evening Novem ber 5. A buffet supper was served. In addition to the honored guest and Mrs. Hawley, those attending were Mr. and Mrs, Paul Morgan, ' Mr. and Mrs, George Barr, Mr. and Mrs, Charles Tennent, and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lank. The Lanks are from Portland and were visiting the Paul Morgans. They left for their home Monday. . Couple Returns From Trip South -: . Mr. and Mrs. Homer Marx, Kings highway, returned Thurs day evening after a week's trip to San Francisco and Reno. They attended the-Rams-Forty-Niners professional football game - at San Francisco. In Reno they visited with their niece, Mrs. Cliff Lawrence, Mr. Lawrence and their two sons, Craig and Jeffry. Mr. Lawrence recently was transferred to Reno as the assistant manager for the Reno Montgomery Ward and company store. . f To Initiate Candidates will be initiated during a meeting of Epsilon chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma sorority, Saturday; November 20, at 4:30 p. m., at the Medford hotel. John C. Whitehead of the First Bap tist church at the Little White chapel at Las Vegas, Nev. The bride is a . daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hamby, Pasco, Wash., and she attended schools at Pasco. She now is employed as a nurse at the Las Vegas Animal hospital. The bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Brown oi Whittier, Calif. He lived in Medford his entire . life until joining the Air Force in 1951 After his discharge next June he plans to enroll in the Junior college at Boise, Ida. The couple's home is at 12C4 South Main street, Las Vegas. Beach Family Honored Friday At Housewarming Friends of Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Beach and family met November at the Beach's new home at 1245 Corona avenue. The event was a housewarming and was in the form of a surprise. . - V At the party were Mr. and Mrs. David Dow Sr.; Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Owens and family, Mr. and Mrs. Reimer Peterson, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph A. Reisenger and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Palmer, and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bostock. , The evening was spent play ing pinochle and prizes were Won by Mrs. Bostock and Mrs. Dow. Refreshments were served. 1 Leaves Mrs: Ethel Chadwick is leav ing today for Phoenix, Ariz., where she will speid the winter with her son-in-law and daugh ter, Mr. and Mrs. John Kappen. At Nottingham they visited a brother of Mr. Whittle, George Whittle, and while there they also attended the wedding of his niece, Miss faheila whittle. . The visitors traveled through out England and also visited in London. They made the return trip on the RMS Mauretania, and visited in New York City with Paul Vogel, father of Mrs. Thomas Whittle Jr., Central Point-Jacksonville highway. At Oakland, Calif., they also visited friends before returning here.
