Mrs. Shep pard underwent surgery at Com munity hospital on November 2 returning home November 7 where she is convalescing nicely. Newcomers to Shady Cove are Mr. and Mrs. Dean Collina, form erly of Butte Falls who are liv ing in one of Tom King's houses on cedar st. Dean Collins is.a brother of John Collins of Shady Cove. - - i Recent guests of Mr; and Mrs. Dave Bergren of Shady Cove have been her parents and broth er, Mr. and Mrs. A.. M. Sagaser and Lee of Yakima, Wash., and friend Betty Martin, also of Yakima? Mrs. Dave Bergren was hostess at her home recently with a sur prise pink and - blue shower honoring Mrs. Joe Waltz of Shady Cove. Mrs" Tex Burnett was joint hostess with Mrs. Ber gren. Attending were Mesdames L. L. Davis, Bob Bishop and Bob Wilson all of Medford, Sam Wells and daughter of Los An geles; and Don Swanson, Rus sell Harris, Thomas King, Dave Holder, Dale Sawyer, Gene House, Eldon Grow, Bob Daw son, Jeanette Johnson, Dee Stockton, Howard Nutt and Edith Wilson of Shady Cove. Gifts were received from Mrs. Bert Conner and Mrs. Knut Dynge who were unable to at tend. Pat Brewer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Brewer of Shady Cove spent a few days here on leave from the Hawaiian Islands where he is stationed with his family. During his visit here " Brewer spoke on his experiences at the Thursday evening Rotary Club meeting telling in particular of escorting from Formosa to Wash ington, D.C.; the 10 Polish refu gees recently in the, news who were seeking' asylum in the United States. Pat was also a guest of the Jimmy Davis' while here: - Mr. and Mrs.Vjohnny Walker of Las Vegas, Nev.; spent a week end visiting in Shady Cove re cently. Mr. and ' Mrs. Walker lived in Shady. Cove for' many years and are well known in the area. ': Mrs. O." C. Krotz of Shady Cove has returned from a trip to Denver, Midland, Texas, and San Francisco. She made the trip by plane. Mr. and Mrs. Chester Bran son of Fallbrook, Calif., have a new girl in their family. The baby, who has been named Kath leen, is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Preston Smallwood of Shady Cove. The Bransons are former residents of Shady Cove. A chapel benefit bazaar and carnival sponsored by Our Lady of Fatima Club will be held Sat urday, November 13, from 6 to 11 p.m., at the Shady Cove school gym. Free balloons will be given to all children attend ing. Movies including comedies and picture will be shown for a small charge. About 15 booths will be in operation. At the close of the evening awards will be given. Proceeds from the event will go towards building the chapel in Shady Cove on which work has already been started. Mr. and Mrs. John Latz of Al tadena, Calif., were recent guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Preston Smallwood of Shady Cove. The Smallwood's nephew, Richard ; Smallwood is staying with them now but expects to join the Marines in.December. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Blaar of Medford ' were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. ; Dick Bartuss of Shady Cove. Miss Dawn Brown of Willits, Calif., was a recent guest of her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Everard Brown of Shady Cove. She spent a week with4hem. A group of Trail ladies drove to Montague, Calif., last week to attend a Stanley party at the home of Mr. and Mrs: O. K. Crownover, former Trail resi dents. Making the trip were Mrs. Everett Elrod, Mrs. Lewis Dusen- berry, Mrs. Willis Hawkins, Mrs. Bob Jones and Mrs. Vernon Copeland, daughter of the Crownovers. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Kee and daughter Cecelia of Shady Cove left Tuesday for Spokane to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Char les Kee and also attend National Grange. Accompanying the Kee's were Mrs. Kee's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank ' Chamberlain of Eagle Point. - . Mr. and Mrs. John Collins of Shady Cove will go ' to Baker this week-end on a hunting trip. Mrs. Collins Sr. will take care of the children while they are away. Mrs. Ira Connor ' of Shady Cove left Wednesday for Silver- ton where she was called by the illness of her niece s boy, Steven Price, who is suffering from leukemia. ' Mrs. Helen Hammons of Sheri dan is visiting her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Pfeifer of Shady Cove. The first football trophy since the Shady Cove school started now reposes in the cabinet at the Shady Cove school. The football team won third place among teams in the area. On November 8 the 5th and 6th grades of Shady Cove school visited the offices of the. Mail Tribune in Medford and the 8th grade toured the Court House conducted by the custodian. Barbara Greer, daughter of Mrs. Billie Greer of Shady Cove, has been elected Homecoming Queen at Arizona State College GOP 'Blunders' Said Reason for Loss of House Washington (U.R) Reo. Usher L. Burdick (R-N.D.), said today administration "blunders' caused the Republicans to lose control of the House in the Nov. 2 elections. "All the mistakes cannot fe catalogued in a short report," Burdick said in a weekly news letter, ."but generally the Repub licans did about everything thev could do to drive the voters away from them. The result must necessarilv follow that publicans who did not deserve aeieat were defeated. The ad ministration defeated them."
