TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) Show and Dinner Set This Month By Lady Lions Further plans for the holiday fashion show and dinner which Crater Lions' auxiliary will sponsor November 16 were made at a meeting of the group last Wednesday. The show and din ner will be given in the Pioneer room of the Jackson hotel, with Mann's store cooperating. Pro ceeds will go to the project car ried on by Oregon Lady Lions in connection with the state school for the blind) and local charity work. Christmas gifts will be the theme of the show, and both adults and children will model. Mrs. Jack Ingram, general chairman for the benefit event, displayed prizes which have been donated for the dinner and show. Reservations for the show may be made by calling Mrs. Lloyd Evans, 2-9881, and the deadline is November .14. ' Hostesses for last week's meet ing were Mrs. Dan Dwyer, Mrs. Clayton George and Mrs. Wend ell Vaughn. 18th Anniversary Is Observed by Medford Zontians The annual anniversary din ner of Medford Zonta club was held Thursday night at the home of the president, Mrs. Elsie But ler, Barneburg road. This mark ed the eighteenth year since the Medford club received it's char ter and also the thirty-fifth an niversary for Zonta Internation al. Guests at the dinner were Mrs. Jean Fish, Mrs. Eva Marsh and Mrs. Effie Kurtz. Members vote to again dress dolls for the Christmas party, the dolls to be distributed to local children who would not other wise receive gifts. Final plans for the rummage sale to be held Nov. 19 and 20 were made. The hostess was assisted by members of the board; Mrs. Ethel Tennant, Mrs. Sammye Harris, Miss Jo Kirtley, Mrs. Aileen Maddox and Miss Eula Wintermote. To Meet Mistletoe club members will meet for a dessert luncheon, Wednesday, November 10, at 12:30 p. m. Morgan during an afternoon ceremony October 12. The Rev. F. Wildon Colbaugh performed the rites at 4 o'clock. The bride is a daughter of Mrs. Juanita Reigel, route 1, box 347, and W. R. Vance, 3014 Lone Pine road. The bridegroom is a private first class in the Marine corps and is the son of Mrs. Clara Fryrear, 75. Dewey street, Ash land, and A. W. Morgan, Yakima, Wash. John R. Alexandro and Miss Anna Marie Sufarly were the attendants. The bridegroom has left for El Toro, Calif., where he is sta tioned. Mrs. Morgan will join him there later. The event was a sur prise to the guest of honor. Guests included Roger Pou tre, Monte Smith, Dale Copley, Don Copely, and the Misses Ruth Hunter, etty; Arnold, and Gayle Sweeney. Autumn colors were used for decorations and games were played. Miss Allen was presented gifts and refreshments were served by Mrs. Huntley and Mrs. Ruth Huntley, cohostess. Miss Allen makes her home with Mrs. Ruth Huntley, an aunt. Two Women Give Brjdge Luncheons Mrs. John C. Mann and Mrs. Burdette Dodge were hostesses for a luncheon and bridge party yesterday afternoon.1 The event was at the former's home on Hillcrest road. Twenty-two guests attended. The party was the second such event given by the two women, the first having been held the previous Saturday. ' Luncheon Meeting Planned by Women Mrs. J. A. (Brainerd photo) Organ Concert Set for Monday At Church Here The public is invited to an organ concert to be presented by Ralph Stitts of San Francisco at the Medford Christian Science avenue, Monday, November 8, at 7 p.m. The concert is being spon sored without charge to the public by the J. H. Lusk Piano company in cooperation with the organ division of the Baldwin Piano company. Mr. Stitts is said to be one of the finest young organists on the west coast. He also is recog nized for his playing of repre sentative" music from all faiths as well as secular selections by the masters of organ literature. The concert is planned zs an informal event and anyone de siring a special selection played may request the selection. After the program refreshments will be served in the social room of the First Methodist church where Mr. Stitts will demonstrate techniques on the Baldwin spinet organ. Women Students Ashland Five women stu dents at Southern Oregon college have been initiated into Sigma Epsilon Pi, women's scholastic honorary. Those initiated were Miss Gay nell Krambeal, Ashland; Miss Janice Davis, Ashland; Miss Opal Dean, Ashland; Miss Mary Ellen Holbrook, Roseburg; and Miss Jean Jeldness, Medford. Members of the honorary are required to have a "B" or better scholastic record, President Lois Brooks said. . In charge of the candlelight ceremony were Miss Joan Pence, Medford, and Miss Ann Rentch ler, Medford. Mrs. Mabel Win ston; SOC registrar, spoke to the group. Fall Term Play Cast in Ashland Ashland Casting was under way this week at Southern Ore gon college for the fall term play,, "The Member of the Wed ding," under the director Miss Mildred Peck The cast, Miss Peck said, calls for six men and seven women. The play, written by Carson Mc Cullers, won the 1930 Critics' Circle award as the best play of the year. 1060 Crater Lake Are. mmm Medical Auxiliary Hears Speakers Explain Program A luncheon honoring Mrs. Hal Davis, Portland, president of the Oregon Medical auxiliary, and the president-elect, Mrs. Leonard Jacobsen, Eugene, was held at Rogue Valley Country club Tues day. Twenty-five members of the Jackson County Medical aux iliary attended. Mrs. L." D. Inskeep was chair man of luncheon arrangements, man of luncheon arrangements, and was assisted by Mrs. Fred T. Burich. Mrs. Ralph Thompsen, chair man pro-tem, introduced Mrs. Davis who spoke on the import ant role members of the auxil iary have as ambassadors of good will and the opportunity of each to bring health education ma terials to the public. A nation wide effort i& made to get wider circulation of the magazine, "To day's Health" published by the American Medical Association, she said. National stress is placed on participation in local civil de fense programs and esecially the move for offering nurse's schol arships. She concluded with the two slogans of the year for the national auxiliary "Leadership in community health" and "A family doctor for every doctor's family." Mrs. Jacobsen, president-elect, is also state chairman of the nurse recruitment program and has been active for several years. A nurse herself, she radiates en thusiasm for the program. Mrs. Jacobsen mentioned the work being done throughout the na tion and stressed the Future Nurses' clubs as they are func tioning in Michigan. In Oregon some groups are carrying on an education program for boys and girls of high school age who are interested in all phases of the medical field, nursing, X-ray and medical technicians' work, ther apy, etc. Klamath Falls has a very active group, she said. ; At present 14 scholarships sponsored by medical auxiliaries are available to nurses in Ore gon and the local group was pleased to be told it is one of only vtwo auxiliaries in the state promoting scholarships of $200. Two films are available to any groups interested, it was an nounced. They are "The Girl with the Lamp" in technicolor and sound and "When You Choose Nursing." These may be obtained by contacting any of the local auxiliary officers who will arrange for their showing. More of the specific plans of the local committee for the nurses scholarship will be announced at a later date. There will be no November evening meeting for the local auxiliary, it was said. Reception Planned At Griffin Creek Griffin Creek A reception for teachers of the Griffin Creek school is planned for Monday, November 8, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the school. The purpose of the reception is to provide an opportunity for parents of students at the school to meet and confer with their children's teachers when the children are not present. Curtis, 712 Oak street, has been selected by members of the local chap ter of Nu Phi Mu. sorority to be the Nu Phi Mu Lynne Terry honor girl for 1954. . Miss Curtis, a native of Canon City, Colo., attended grade school in Elko, Nev., and high school in Medford. She was grad uated from Medford Senior High school in 1954 and was a com mercial student and a member of the Future Business Leaders of America. At graduation she received a scholarship from the National Secretaries association as an outstanding commercial student. She now is attending Southern Oregon college where she is a secretarial science major. Miss Curtis is a member of the Zion Evangelistic Lutheran church. Her hobbies include stamp col lecting, painting and music. This is the third year a Lynn Terry honor girl has been select ed by the sorority members. Miss Patricia Vail, 28 'Geneva street, was the honor girl for 1952. She is now the president of the local chapter. Mrs. David Segur, the former Miss Marie Laird, was the 1953 honor girl. A formal Founders' day ban quet for the sorority members and guests' was held at Mon Desir dining inn October 18. A formal ceremony was con ducted during the evening by the chapter advisor, Mrs. Mel Goguey, when three young wom en were pledged to the group. The pledges are Miss Betty Hawkins, Mrs. Tomie McKinney and Miss Curtis. Miss Marilyn Myhre, Miss Joan Pence, and Mrs. Jack Bailey re ceived their sorority pins in a ceremony conducted by Mrs. Goguey. Miss Carole Pence who was not at the meeting also will receive a pin. Assisting Mrs. Goguey with the ceremonies were Miss Jacqueline Walker and Miss Patricia Vail. The ceremonies were conduct ed by candlelight before a table decorated in silver and blue and centered with a bouquet of pink rosebuds, the sorority flower. Nile to Observe Founder's Day Medford members of Zuleima temple, Daughters of the Nile, have been requested to provide the hot dishes for a covered dish luncheon on Saturday, Novem ber 13, at Medford Masonic tem ple, 12:30 p. m. Founder's day will be observed at the luncheon and during the stated meeting which will follow at 2 o clock. Myrtle Creek Nile club is in charge of arrangements with Mrs. Geraldine O'Brien as chair man. Mrs. Glenn L. Linn, Med ford, will assist. Local members who plan to attend are asked to notify Mrs. Z. McDougall, 315 Perrydale avenue, has been named president of the sopho more class at Southern Oregon college. The young man, a gradu ate of Medford Senior High school, is a member of Sigma Alpha Sigma and Alpha Phi Omega fraternities at the col lege. Rosebud Council Sets Installation Installation of officers will be held during a meeting of the Talisman Rosebud council of the Pythian Sunshine Girls Thurs day, November 11, at 7 p.m., in the Pythian building. Mrs. LeRoy Cline will be in stalling officer assisted by Mrs. Harry Bryant, royal prelate; Mrs. Mildred Tolle, royal guide; and Mrs. Carl Fichtner, grand mystic one.
