At 7:45 a.m. the election board for Precinct 55 (upper left) was sworn in at Medford Senior High school by Mrs. Clarence R. Schmidt, whose coworkers (left to right) were Mrs. Ward Lampkin, Mrs. Leroy Fleming, Mrs. John Pond and Mrs. Frank Roelandt. The board at Precinct 34 is shown.(upper right) at the City Hall during a lull about 3 p.m. Board mem bers were (left to right) Mrs. Lloyd Bennett, Mrs. Florence Gil kison, Mrs. Dale Flowers, Mrs. Mary Merrifield and Mrs. Clarence Pankey. Mrs. Rosella Theesfeld (background) came .in to look at a sample ballot. , About 4 p.m. the board for Precinct 40 at the courthouse was having a rush and three of the voters were (above, left to right) Mrs. Anita B la is, Mrs. Edith Garrett and Mrs. Elaine Grivas. Long before the polls closed at 8 p.m. counting boards in many of the large precincts were hard at work. Pictured (above, right) is the counting board for Precinct 58 at the Werner home, 1 840 Stewart avenue, and compised of (left to right) Mrs. Lyle Heidemann, Mrs. Leo Young, Mrs. J. R. Wells, Mrs. W. G. Werner Jr., and Mrs. W. G. Werner. This board expected to finish soon after midnight some boards worked much later.' ; ' As "soon as the polls closed The Mail Tribune began gathering and tabulating returns, with 31 employees of the newspaper and ' of Radio Station KYJC working.. Ashland and Rogue River figures were gathered with the coopera tion of the Daily Tidings and Rogue River Times. Several adding machines were in use and Miss Alta Lindsey (at left) of the Tribune staff was one of those who worked through out the night tabulating figures. ' The totals were recorded on tabulation boards rigged up by Manager Jerry Latham and. one board is shown (at right) with Richard Keener of the circulation department starting to change the figures. , Next step in the process was broadcasting the news to . the waiting public and working at this were (below right, left to right) City Editor Eric Allen Jr., KYJC Manager James Dunlevy and Tom MacLeod of the station. ... -'The scene (below lef) is the way the Tribune office look ed; during the. early .part "of.
