Ocirbe; 24. 1954 Miss Chapman, Robert Bates Wet in Talent ' Talent ' ' Miss ; Joce Lee Chapman and Robert Dean Bates : were married October 7 In rites at the Talent' Methodist church and after a brief trip to Brook ings on the coast, they left for Spokane, Wash. He is stationed there v,'!th the Air Force. The bride is a daughter of Mrs. lone Chapman, Talent, and Arnold Chapman, Riley, Kans. Mr. and Mrs. Loyal M. Bates, Talent, are parents of the bride groom. ' The Rev. Alice Mae Woolley, pastor of the church, read the double-ring . ceremony. About 100 guests, attended the cere mony an dthe reception held lat er at the church annex. s Mrs. Delores Sanders, Grants Pass, a sister of the bride, was matron of honor. Miss Cathy Sanders, also of Grants Pass, a niece, was flower girl. Bob Hunter was ring bearer. L. W. Bates, a brother of the bridegroom, was best man. Ush ers were- Kenny Reynold and Byron Dixon, " Alvin Chapman, an uncle of the bride, gave her in marriage. For.; her wedding the bride wore a brown suit trimmed wltn white and her accessories were brown. She wore a corsage of pink carnations. The flower girl's dress was of blue nylon organdy and . she wore a band of blue carnations in her hair. ' The church : was decorated With baskets of mixed flowers. Mrs. Genevieve Holdridge sang accompanied by Mrs. Jack Suksdorf. Husbands of members and In vited guests also will attend. ; An open meeting for guests was held by the chapter at the home of Mrs. Mamie Sleeter. Members of the sorority who participated in the ' program were the Mesdames C. J. Marrs, Russell Budreau, Edward . Bun nell and John Lamberty. Mrs. Roger Note conducted the cult ural .portion of the program which consisted of a panel dis cussion on happiness through control of environment. Hostesses for the - evening were the Mesdames Larry Al len, Marrs, and Marcus. Guests invited for the occas ion included Mesdames Richard Henselman, George Johns, Steve Mosher, Joe Raabe, William Ty cer, William Werner, Jack Cummlngs, David Legg, Ricky Mlnckler, H. Schroeder and Miss Robert Joan Edmunds. Mrs. June Isom, Santa Maria, Calif., a member of Theta Up' silon Exemplar chapter, also was at the meeting. She is visit ing relatives here. ; i The next regular meeting of the chapter will be November 1 at the home of Mrs. McKenzie, 1817 Winchester avenue, the ses sion to open at 8 p.m. Service Held Squire-Hoover In California - Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Elwood Squire Jr., married October 10 in First Presbyterian chuch, Eureka. Calif., are now living at 217 West Second street, Med- ford. The bride, is the former Marlene Marie Hoover, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul F. Hoover, Eureka, and the bride groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar E. Squire, Orr drive, Cen tral Point. . The wedding ceremony was performed by the Rev. Lester F. Elsel, with ISO guests attending. Miss Mary Hoover, Portland, aunt of the bride, was organist and Miss Phyllis Robertson, Eu reka, was soloist. . - The bride's wedding gown of white faille trimmed with rhine- stone buttons was worn with navy blue accessories. She car ried a white Bible with red roses. . Miss Peggy Brady, Eureka, was honor attendant and brides maids were the Misses Lena Hemenway and Diane Arvidson, both Eureka. liss Brady wore a frock of baby blue and carried pink dahlias. Miss Hemenway's dress was of pink and her flow ers were dark pink dahlias and Mips Arvidson wore a beige frock and carried golden colored dahlias. Warren B. Squire, Central Point, home on Army leave, was best man for his brother and Mr. Hoover gave his daughter in marriage. Dale Hoover, brother of the bride, and Edward Ne- vllls, both Eureka, were ushers. . The reception which followed was In the church social hall. The bride's grandmothers, Mrs. L. F. Hoover, Portland, and Mrs. L. J. Smith, Yermo, Calif., serv ed the wedding cake, and Mrs.' D. B. McDougall, aunt of the bride from Port Tueneme, Calif., poured. Mrs. G. C. Collins, Port land, another aunt of the bride, took charge of the gifts. The bride was graduated from 1 Eureka High school and attend ed Humbolt State college, Ar eata. The bridegroom was gradu ated from Crater' High school and is now with Bear Creek Packing company." Dinner Given At Dwyer Home Mr. and Mrs. R. H. MacLauch lan were dinner guests Wednes day evening of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Dwyer, Jr., at the Dwyer home, 1916 Winchester avenue. The occasion was a surprise ev ent honoring Mrs. MacLauch lan on her birthday. Table decorations Included a pink cloth with lighted green tapers and an arrangement of chrysanthemums. II Dri? 1 ') Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Elwood Squire Jr. Eldred-Kelly Rite Held on Thursday At Millard Home Eagle Point A two o'clock afternoon ceremony October 21 wedded Mrs. Muriel .Ernestine Kelly and Dale Carson Eldred, both of Medford. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. D. E. Millard at the Millard home near Eagle Point. The bride s parents are -de ceased and the bridegroom is a son of Mrs. Agnes Wood, 417 Union street. Attending - the couple were Mrs, Rex Johnson, Phoenix, a sister of the bridegroom, and Lyle D. Kelly, son of the bride, was best man. The latter was here on leave from the Marine corps after completing basic training and before leaving for his new station in Florida. The bride wore a lavender flowered silk afternoon dress with black accessories and her flowers were a corsage of double white orchids. Mrs. Johnson wore a blue green taffeta afternoon dress with black accessories and her corsage was of white spider chrysanthemums. The Rev Mr. and Mrs. Mil lard furnished the wedding music. :.. . A small group of relatives and friends attended the cere mony and a larger group attend ed a reception held at the couple's new home at 115 Elk street. Several guests from Grants Pass also were there. The bride formerly lived at Grants Pass and moved about six months ago to Medford. Cake and punch were served. The bridegroom has lived in Medford about six years after moving here from Los Angeles, Calif. He operates the Trl-City Window Cleaning company. : Baptist Women To Hold Meetings Tuesday, Thursday Women's Fellowship of First Baptist church will meet for dessert luncheon In the annex of the church Tuesday, October 26, at 1 p. m. The social committee will be Mesdames Fay Goddard, Doyle Franklin, and R. B. Gard ner. Following the luncheon Mrs. W. D. Roberts, president, will conduct a business session. The missionary program will be on the country of Brazil, and de votions will be given by Mrs. M. L. Daily. Thursday, October 28, women of Medford First Baptist mis sionary groups will attend an all-day meeting of Shasta-Cascade Women's Fellowship at First Baptist church, Ashland. The meeting will begin at 10 a. m. The Rev. Don Pierce, Conserv ative Baptist missionary to the Belgian Congo, will be speaker for all sessions. . Ashland women will serve a banquet at 5:30 p. m. S I Program Planned ' On Mental Health Eagle Point A program on mental health and child guid ance is planned for a meeting of the Eagle Point Parent-Teacher association Tuesday, October 26, at 8 p. m., in the high school library. A skit also will be a part of the program. ' Child care will be furnished at the school by Girl Scout troop members. Meeting Planned By Rose Society Monday Evening Medford Rose society will hold the monthly meeting in the Jackson county court house aud itorium Monday, October 25 at 8 p.m. The discussion topic will be "planning for next year's rose garden." ., - Ernest Vehrs, Grants Pass, Na tional Rosarian for this area, will be one of the speakers. All persons Interested in becoming charter members are asked to attend, as the charter member; ship will be closed at this meet ing. A social hour will follow the program, with Miss Mary Han- ley presiding. Members are ask ed to bring rose specimens for exhibition,. Mistletoe Members To Meet Wednesday Mistletoe club women will meet Wednesday, October 27, at 12:30 p.m., for a covered dish luncheon, and they will devote the afternoon to a business ses sion and sewing on articles for a bazaar. The club also will sponsor a public card party Friday. Octo ber 29, at 8 p.m. at the Girls Community club. Refreshments will be 'served by Mrs. Anna McCormack, Mrs. A. B. Shinley, Mrs. Edith Brown and Mrs. Robert Gilman. Rector and Wife Entertain , At Annual Open HouseSunday An event of last Sunday, Oc- acolyte roomer; Mrs. t,. tiwooa tober 17. was ' the annual "at home" of the Rev. and Mrs. George R. V. Bolster. The Rev. Mr. Bolster, rector of St. Mark's Episcopal church, and Mrs. Bol ster invited members and friends of the church to their home on North Oakdale avenue between three and five-thirty o'clock. An arrangement of flame colored dahlias and five candles centered the refreshment table. The decorations included gifts of flowers from Mrs. T. E. White ford, Mrs. Ward V. Hammond, Mrs. Fred J. Carr and the Rev. and Mrs, Robert L. Greene. Pouring and assisting Mrs. Bolster were women who are of ficials of the church, and wives of church officials. These were Miss Anna Livingston and Mrs. John' C. Mann,' sister and wife of two late wardens emeritus of St. Mark's church; Mrs. Hugh H. Coleman and Mrs. Charles W. Crary, wives of the present wardens; Mrs. William Isaacs of St. Mark's auxiliary-guild; Mrs. John G. Crawford, St. Mark's Evening guild; Mrs. Bayard Get chell of the Altar guild; Mrs. Paul Selby, junior church school; . Mr. Staney E. Phillips, counselor for religious educa tion in the church; and Miss Olive Curry, St. Mark's choir. Assistant hostesses were Mrs. Fred J. Carr, wife of the church treasurer; Mrs. J. A. McDougall, Grants Pass Girl Becomes Bride of James McGifford Miss Clare Nell Varner, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. "Walter H. Varner, 1616 Northwest Found ry street Grants Pass, and James McGifford, were wed October 17 at Carson City, Nevada. The bridegroom is a son of Mrs. Janice S. Long, 1308 Queen Anne avenue. , The bride is a graduate of Grants Pass High school and at tended Southern Oregon col lege. She is employed by Cali fornia Oregon Power company at Grants Pass, The bridegroom is a Klamath Union High school graduate and he also attended Southern Ore gon college. He was discharged October 8 from the Navy after four years of service and he plans to continue his studies at South ern Oregon college In January. The couple is making a wed ding trip in southern California, including Los Angeles and San Diego. They plan to return the first of November. Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Stewart, Coos Bay, arrived last evening to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Hamilton, Arnold lane, and while here they will do some pheasant shooting.
