Traffic safety for school chil
dren is the theme of the Medf ord
Safety Council for September.

ing of the council held Friday at
the Jackson hotel.

It was announced that Boy
Scouts were to hand out pam
phlets on safety in behalf of
school children on the Medford

Wyant and Son herd, was top
butterfat producer during Aug
ust, a summary of the Jackson
County Dairy Herd Improve
ment association shows. The an
imal produced 1,445 pounds of
milk with 89.6 pounds of butter
fat in 46 days of production.
Top herd of the month was
that of C. W. Jensen with 21
cows averaging 848 pounds of
milk and 42.6 pounds of butter
fat, with four cows dry. Don
Ullom's 26-animal herd with four
dry, produced an average of 811
pounds of milk and 38.3 pounds
of butterfat The R. I. Wyant
and Son herd of 29, with eight
dry, produced 674 and 36.9. Rus
sell Johnson recorded 905 and
36.2 with 55 cows, six of them
dry. ,
Other top cows included Chet
Jensen's Swiss with 1,556 pounds
of milk, 84 pounds of butterfat
in 39 days; Don Ullom's Peggy,
1,525, 83.9, 116; Wyant's Thornia,
1,597, 81.4. 57; Bill and Jo Hub
bard's Mary, 1,891, 79.4, 49; Al
len Rolens' Helen, 1,320. 79, 24;

Hells Canyon Hearing
Extension Turned Down

eral Power Commission has
refused to extend the current re
cess in the Hells Canyon Dam
hearing.
The hearing is scheduled to
resume Sept 21 on the proposal
of the Idaho Power Co. to build
three low darns on the Snake
River on the Idaho-Oregon bor
der. The application is opposed
by the National Hells Canyon
Association, Inc., and several
public utility districts, which fa
vor construction by the Recla
mation Bureau of a huge multi
purpose dam at Hells Canyon.
