Carson, former president of Silliman university in the Philippine Islands, will be the vesper speaker Sunday at the First Presbyterian church at 7:30 p.m. Silliman university is the largest Protestant university in the Philippines and Dr. Carson was chosen to head the school because of his outstanding quali ties of leadership. Neal, first lieu tenant in the Medford squadron of the Civil Air Patrol and one of i the local Methodist youth, will speak and show pictures of his recent trip to the Nether lands at the regular meeting of the senior high Methodist Youth fellowship Sunday evening in the social rooms of the First Methodist church, the pastor, the Rev. Hardwick W. Harshman, reported. Lt. Neal will tell of his ex periences in London, Rhine Marne, Germany and The Hague and of the four days he lived with the Van Dorp family. (The Junior high MYF will meet at the church at 6 p.m. Sunday for transportation to Military bridge for the regular Sunday evening fellowship. Lyle Starkey, senior ministerial student at Northwest Nazarene college will be the preacher at the Medford Church of the Nazarene Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Starkey is a native of Med ford, and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Starkey. After holding a local preacher's li cense for two years, he was li censed by the Oregon Pacific District assembly, which met here in May. He supplied the pulpit of a Congregational church near Nampa for several months during the college year. The Rev. Walter C. Morris, pastor at Prospect, and former missionary to India, will preach at the 11 a.m. service, according to the pastor, the Rev. Vernon Wilcox. Hartford. Conn. Sherry Anglemyer, pastor of First Christian church, will give the sermon Saturday evening, September 9. at the Oregon state missionary conven tion of the denomination at Tur ner. The conclave will open on September 2 and conclude on September 6. Mr. Anglemyer is chairman of the' convention nom inating committee. Youth of the Medford church will have charge of the Sunday evening service. They will bring special music and the message. A regular youth meeting will precede the service. Mr. Anglemyer will speak on "I Heard the Voice" at the 10:55 a.m. worship of the church on Sunday. Both fall and summer cloth ing may be turned In for the church rummage sale which is scheduled Friday and Saturday, September 4 and 5 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Fellowship hall. St. Peter's Has Evening Meeting St. Peter's Lutheran church has begun evening services on Sunday at 7:30 o'clock. ' The Rev. Kenneth F. Korby, pastor, announced that this Sun day evening, the third in a se ries of sermons on worship will be preached. Title of the ser mon is "Consecrated to the Lord." Devotion, it will be pointed out, is not only the setting aside of part of one's time, energy, and money to the Lord. Devo tion is a devoted life and ex istence. In the morning service Pastor Korby will preach on "Walking in the Pattern Cut by God." Members of the community, especially those who have no church connections, are invited to attend these services. Armadillos can run with sur prising speed when frightened. Church Plans Class, Building Fund Drive Gold Hill Gold Hill Chris tian church will start a weekly class at 8 p.m. next Thursday at the church. The study has been popular at other churches In Oregon. Courses of study will be distrib uted at the Sunday morning service to those who wish to en roll. Church planning committee men are discussing a "buy a block" campaign in a drive to erect a new church. The build ing, under the plan, would be made of pumice blocks, costing 38 cents each. Persons would be given an opportunity to purchase one or more blocks for the church. Ada Andrews has painted a thermometer, poster showing funds on hand in the building and lot fund. The thermometer will rise as funds come in. It is hoped to make a decision soon on a lot for the church. Norwalk, Conn. U.B Police were unprepared for the amount of business they got when they put in new parking meters in some sections, of the city. Before noon the first day the traffic de partment reported it had run out of tickets tagging overtime park-ers.
