At the Granges Shady Covo Graag Shady Cove Grange met Aug ust 26 with fair attendance. The program for Booster night to bo held Satuday, September 28, WM discussed. The committee to which the Hells Canyon Dam matter had been assigned recommended that the Grange go on record as backing the State Grange in its stand on the matter. Grange voted to pay for 20 new chairs to be used at the school gym, if other organiza tions in the community will or der enough to make 100 or more, thereby getting cheaper rates. Visitors Mr. and Mrs- Reed McKay extended an invitation to the Gold Hill Grange picnic to be held at Tou Velle Park Sun day, Aug. 30. They also an nounced third and fourth de grees would be exemplified by their drill team at Gold Hill Grange on Thursday, September 3, and invited us to bring our candidates. Another visitor, Mrs. Alberta Hughes of Upper Rogue Grange, gave a recitation. Lecturer Edgar Vanderlip ar ranged an unrehearsed mock wedding with Master Phil Mots- chenbacker as the minister, Ger trude Lewin and Edward O'Neal as bride and groom, Sadie Van derlip, ring bearer; Cecil Kee gave the bride away, Betty Du senberry was the jilted girl friend. Anna Beryl Kee played the wedding march. There was also a dress making contest in which Cecil Kee, Claude Close and Edward O'Neal fashioned dresses for their wives, using newspapers and pins. This contest was voted tie. EEC. Chairman Alyce Cross announced next H.E.C. meeting Tuesday, September 8, will be a pot-luck luncheon at the home of Mrs. Claud Close. Roll call will be answered by telling "How I Fixed It." Treasurer Agnes Brown re ported Mr. and Mrs. Athel Dudly unable to attend Grange because of illness. Members were asked to save coffee bands. We are helping the PTJL obtain a drip-o-lator. Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Clark serv ed refreshments. Gold Hill Grange Regular meeting of Gold Hill Grange H.E.C was held August 26 at the hall with IS sisters present. Business meeting was con ducted by Mary Shaw, Chair man. A few good suggestions were brought up for improving both H.E C. and Grange work. On Lucy Edington's suggestion the ladies will meet next Wednesday to clean the Grange hall prior to the meeting Thurs day night when Gold Hill will put on the third and fourth de grees for other Grange candi dates, Central Point being invit Vd that night, especially. All Cold Hill ladies are requested to 3r.-ing cookies and sandwiches to the meeting. Members are reminded again of the Grange picnic at Tou Velle park, August 30 at 1 p.m. Ladies please do not overlook the meat dish, chicken, if you can. Get well cards were sent to Mrs. Viola Moore and little Reva Taylor, daughter of Gold Hill's marshal!, who is very ill. Myrtle Reel won the prize. After the business session the ladies were still quilting when they were honored by a visit from Mrs. Edna Foote and her daughter, Mrs- Edgerton of Kuna, Idaho. Mrs. Edgerton"i son Lee who is master of the Juvenile Grange of Kuna, and his sister, Sharon visited with the Gold Hill Juveniles. 8 Timber Tracts Will Be Offered For Sale by BLM Eight tracts of timber will be offered for sale at 10:30 a.m. Fri day, Sept. 4, at the district Bu reau of Land Management office in the Medford city hall, it was announced today. Seven of the tracts will be of fered for sealed bids, and the eighth will be offered for oral bids, according to E. K. Peterson, district forester. Three of the tractsre in the Jackson market ing area, and five are in the Jpse phine marketing area. Ia Dead Indian Area Approximately 1,034,000 board feet of timber in the Dead Indian area near Shale City will be of fered for sealed bids. The tract contains an estimated 472,000 board feet of douglas fir, 280,000 board feet of Ponderosa pine, 205,000 board feet of white fir, and 77,000 board feet of incense cedar. Total minimum purchase price has been set at $20,822.60. An estimated 711,000 board feet south of Jacksonville in the Hopkins Gulch area will be of fered for sealed bids. It includes 200,000 board feet of douglas fir and 511,000 board feet of Pan deroso pine. Total .minimum price is $17,445.65. Rear Emigrant Creek The third tract in the Jackson marketing area is 3,099,000 board feet of timber in the Emigrant creek area. It includes 2,201,000 board feet of douglas fir, 648,000 board feet of ponderosa pine, 20, 000 board feet of sugar pine, 131,000 board feet of white pine, and 99,000 board feet of incense cedar. Total minimum price at sealed bid is $53,010.65. The five tracts in the Jose phine marketing area include 99,000 board feet on the West Fork of Williams creek, with a minimum purchase price of $1,405.80 at sealed bid; 1.770, 000 board feet in the Holland area, with a minimum purchase price of $38,357.40 at sealed bid; 1,950,000 in the Grayback creek area, with a minimum purchase price of $34,987.50 at oral bid; 1,346,000 board feet of timber on the East Fork of Williams creek, with minimum purchase price of $17,502.40 at sealed bid, and 784, 000 board feet of timber on Crook creek, with a minimum purchase price of $14,732.80 at sealed bid.
