The fact re mained, how- ever, that a half dozen players still were "alive" in each league's chase for the award and any one of them could move front and center in the final month of play. Roberts and Campanella will receive their chief opposition from Gil Hodges of the Dodgers, Warren Spahn and Eddie Math ews of the Braves, Ted Kluszew ski of the Reds and Red Scho endienst of the Cardinals. Trucks could get opposition from two team malts,' Billy Pierce and Minnie Minoso while Rosen also is presumed by team mate Bob Lemon as well as Mickey Vernon of the Senators. Strangely enough, the Ameri can League leading Yankees ap parently have no one in the race; although Whitey Ford and Ed Lopat have won a staggering percentage of their game. Still, the Yanks have no great stand out. One of their number could com through, possibly, on the old voting basis that the M.VP. should come from a pennant winning team. Roberts would be, as of the moment, this corner's choice as the most vauable player in the National League. Already a 20-game winner for the fourth straight year, ho still could surpass his 28 victories of ltS2 and possibly become the first 30-game winner since Dissy Dean in 1934- Over in the American League, Rosen has been one of the few Indians to come through, lead ing in runs batted in, standing high in the batting averages and right there in the homer derby. Full details concerning this season's preparations and pros pacts are scheduled from Spieglberg in' a day or two. No training camp is slated this fall. The Oregon School ActM ties associations frowns on such camps, although they are not prohibited, and the Med ford powers that be are going along with the OSAA. There will be no intersquad Jamboree to launch the season. Medford opens its campaign here Sept 11 against Ashland- Variety of Fish We're back at the grid after, vacation, during part of which we learned something about the variety of fish in Lake O' Woods. Caught a crappie, a sucker, a carp, a catfish, several perch and two trout. Took us a couple of days to discover we weren't trolling deep enough. How About Mush Ball Its possibly a bit too early to think much now about next year's Softball season. But we picked up an idea during our vacation that might interest the old has-beens who are still in terested in getting their ex ercise. While at Springfield we were told of the Willalane Lini ment League which is said to be "for the more mature players." It's a real Softball loop. A soft softball or mush" ball is used. Service clubs make up the league and the participants have lots of fun. What about a similar league for Medford's "older boys?"
