As the Dodgers moved merci lessly onward with a 10-inning, 9 to 8 triumph that gave them six more victories in a row and three straight over the Giants, the most significant item was tHe way they "moidered" Wil helm. Roy Campanella. Brooklyn's hottest candidate for most valu able player honors, hit a three run homer off the knuckle-ball specialist in the seventh in the uphill struggle, then tagged him for another homer in the ninth. Unbeatable Yanks The Yankees stayed seven full games on top in the American League race when lefty Ed Lopat pitched a six-hit 6-1 victory over the Senators whom' he beat for the 10th straight time. The White Sox topped the Indians, 7-3, with a four-run rally in the 10th in ning torsive Virgil Trucks his 15th victory. Al Rosen and Larry Doby hit Cleveland homers, Doby's coming in the ninth to tie the score and send the game Into extra innings. In other American League games, the Browns defeated De troit 1-0, in 11 innings when Vic Wertx doubled and Vera Ste phens singled off ex-Brownie Ned Carver to break up a score less battle, while the Athletics topped Boston, 1-0, in a three hitter by Joe Coleman. Scoreless Relief Harlan Stuart gained the vic tory for St. 'Louis with a score 1.5j relief chore in the 11th after starter Lou Kretlow went out for a pinch-hitter. Cincinnati topped the Cubs 10 2 on a seven-hit pitching job by lefty Fred Baczewski against his ex-mates, cashing in on a rally In the third in which the Ohio- ans scored five unearned runs on three Chicago errors. In yestrday's first round play, Santa Maria, led by Dick Beall's two home runs, waxed West Fresno, Calif., 7-3, and Oroville defeated Provo, Utah, 7-4. Seattle came through with a narrow 3 to 2 win over El Cen tro, Calif., in an eight inning game. Vancouver scored its win ning run in the bottom of the sixth to edge Pomona, Calif., 9 to 4. In the losers' bracket today, Fresno will meet El Centro and Provo will confront Pomona. Watkins, who recently came up to the Solons from their Stockton farm club in the Cali fornia league, showed he was ready last night by handcuffing the Twinks with a five-hitter, 4-3. Even with that cheerful score greeting them on the board at Wrigley Field, the panicked Rai niers lost their fifth straight by bowing to Los Angeles in 10 innings, 9-8. Other Battles In other games, Lefty O'Doul's Victoria Tyees Miss Salem Game After Big Slide By UNITED PRESS The scheduled Western Inter national league baseball game between the Victoria Tyees and the Salem Senators last night was postponed when the Tyees were held up by travel difficul ties in Washington state. The Tyees had finished a ser ies at Yakima and were proceed ing to Seattle by chartered bus when rock slides forced the bus to detour. The team arrived in Seattle too late to make connec tions by boat or plane, forcing postponement of the contest. A double-header was scheduled for tonight. Yakima downed Vancouver 5-2, Spokane took Tri-City 4-1 and Calgary walloped Edmonton 10-4. Big Ten, Coast Slate Bowl Meet Los' Angeles kUR) A meet ing between committees from the Big Ten' and Pacific Coast Conference will be held in San Francisco September 9 to com plete arrangements for a three year renewal of the Rose Bowl contract. Both conferences already have announced approval of an ex tension of the pact for three years. The existing contract ex pires next January 1. Argentine Fighter Continues Undefeated Reno U.PJ Argentine heavy weight Edgardo Romero main tained nis undefeated classifi6a tion today after pounding out a 10-round decision over Andy Walker of San Francisco. Romero, smeared with blood, changed his attack midway in the fight last night and began battering the rangy Californian with a series of jarring lefts. Hollywood pounced on Wat kins for three runs and five hits in the first three innings. In the meantime, the Sacs evened the count in the third in ning with a three-run blast against George O'Donnell. Seattle not only muffed its fifth straight contest but blew a 6-2 lead in the process. Five of their runs were scored during a sixth inning assault against Cal McLish and Alan Ihde. The Beavers, already leading with Don Eggert's second inning homer, started hammering away at Oakland pitcher Al Gettel in the fifth, scoring five times on four hits and an error.
