1 M. ommH Artist To Hold Annual Exhibit Saturday Sunday Eugene Bennett has planned the annual showing of his paint ings for Saturday and Sunday, August 15 and 16, at his home studio, 333 South Grape street. The exhibit is held annually by the young artist' while he is here from Chicago, where he both studies and teaches, for the summer months. Hours both days will be from 2 to 7 p. m. and anyone interested is invited to attend. The young man has been painting for the past 10 years, and plans to include in the ex hibit some representative work from each year. To vary the event somewhat, Mr. Bennett has planned to give a painting demonstration Satur day at 4 p. m. Sunday at about the same hour a short musical program will be presented. The artist, a veteran of World War I, studied first at the Uni versity of Oregon and later at the Art Institute of Chicago. He has taught art at New Trier High school, Chicago, for the'past two years and has exhibited widely both in Oregon, in Chicago and in other cities. The paintings will be exhib ited in the yard and also in his new studio recently completed at the Grape street address. Ilk mm Gold Hill Church Group Meets at Walker Home Gold Hill Mrs. Millie Walk er was hostess (or a meeting of Woman's Society of Christian Service of Gold Hill Commun ity Church Tuesday afternoon. The session was opened with de votions Is led by Mrs. H. A. Dier dorff, and followed by a regular business session presided ' over by Mrs. Lawrence Smith, presi dent of the organization. Plans were made for a food sale to be held August 25 at Gails Market. It was announced that a con tribution had been given to the church to apply on the new roof and other remodeling just com pleted. Members were also asked to bring any new and used clothing to the church basement before September 13, to be sent to the children in Korea. Any one in the community may don ate to this cause if they desire. Women are - asked to take gifts to the next meeting for a summer "Christmas" party, with the donations to go to mission aries in. the Philippines to be distributed among the children. The packages are to be wrapped in Christmas paper. Mrs. Ivan Smith will take charge of the "coffee keys" in place of Mrs. Wilbur Martin. Quite a few keys are needed to get the large coffee urn, and October 1 is the deadline. Mrs. J. G. Kofahl was hon ored with a surprise birthday cake baked and served by the hostess, Mrs. Walker. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Frank Car ter September 8. Major and Wife Take Motor Trip Major and Mrs. Albert Frank have returned to their home at 611 South Ivy street after spend ing the past two months with a motor trip. The travelers visited in Kan sas, Michigan and other mid western states and went up into Ontario, Canada, where they visited in Sudbury. They also were at Niagara Falls and in Pennsylvania. En route home the Franks made stops in Colorado and Idaho, and arrived in Medford by way of Crater lake. Teacher Returns From Trip South Mrs. Bernice Kunzman, 607 West Eighth street, has returned home after spending a vacation in Encino, Calif., with her son-in-law and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. Ewayne Gulgrandson and family. En route home Mrs. Kunzman stopped in San Lorenzo to visit her grandchildren, Gay and Car leen Kunzman. Mrs. Kunzman is a teacher with the Medford public school system. Mr. and Mrs. Karl Reherd and Mrs. Ida Rehard, headed the delegation which included Mrs. Marietta Horn, Mrs. Carol Jones, Mrs. Mildred McQueen, Mrs. Marie Wilcox, department vice president, Mrs. Laura Bryant, Mrs. Velma Garrett and her daughter, Carolyn Garrett. Joyce Childers, of Grants Pass, sang many familiar songs of the past, accompanied by Guy Wil cox and Deane Stewart, of the domiciliary. Medford Riders To Hold Meeting Medford Trail Riders will meet Saturday, August 15, at the Community hall in Phoenix. The host committee is made up of Mr. and Mrs. John Mitchell, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Bunker and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Vague. Marilyn Monroe Injures Ankle Jasper, Alta. U.R) Marilyn Monroe nursed a sprained ankle today and thanked screen hero Robert Mitchum for fishing her out of a river. Miss Monroe was reported to have narrowly escaped drown ing when she took a plunge into the swift Maligne river that wasn't in the script of the film she is making in Jasper national park. The film star, her charms con cealed by chest-high rubber waders, was standing on a rock when she lost her balance and fell into the glacier fed stream. The waders filled with water and she couldn't stay afloat Mitchum, her co-star in the 20th r Century Fox production "Rivef of No Return," pulled the soaked and shivering actress to safety with the help of film crewmen. An examination showed Miss Monroe's left ankle was sprain ed and she was ordered to take a rest. MARILYN MONROE SWIPED San Francisco (U.R) Theater manager Amos Hanson got a call from police that ' Marilyn Mon roe had been picked up and would he please comt down and claim her. Hanson went to re trieve the nine-foot cardboard photograph of the blonde actress which had been stolen from in front of his theater.
