It's a matter of approach to the tourists as they enter or travel through the state, and Oregon is doing it through the alteration of the top and most important line on the signs in front of the several branch of fices of the secretary of state throughout Oregon. The old signs in front of the familiar white buildings with their red-tile roofs read in black and white at the top: SECRETARY OF STATE Then followed the list of what might be found in the branch. Now, at recent suggestion of the United Press, Secretary of State Earl T. Newbry has made the first line read: TOURIST INFORMATION And he is replacing the black and white signs with blue and gold signs Oregon's state col ors. The background is blue and the letters are gold and lumin ous so that they shine out at night in the reflection of the lights of passing cars, The first of the new signs was put up at Oregon City branch. The Dalles is next. The state's gardener is in The Dalles this weekend to lanscape the lot of the tourist information branch office there. He will go to Hood River Monday, then on to Baker, and Ontario, and back by way of the coast, touching at North Bend and Astoria. Eventually all the branch of fices will be landscaped and the sign will go up welcoming tour ists to drop in and get informa tion about Oregon. Mc Kay, president of the council of elders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, will dedicate the ground for Britain's first Mormon Temple Monday. Church headquarters said it I will take two to three years to I build the temple near the village of New Chapel in Surrey. It will be approximately the same size as the temple dedicated by Mc Kay in Switzerland, considerably smaller than those in the United States. The ceremonies at Surrey will be private, with attendance lim ited to members of the Latter Day Saints. About 100 are ex pected to attend.
