Styled by Glentex. Deeper Colors Seen For Autumn Clothes It's one against one or one with one serving to achieve an exciting new outlook for the fashion color chart this fall. Black, for example, will be used to underscore colors in all ways and on all fabrics. It may be used as an accent mark. It may be an important part of the pattern or it may even be woven into a fabric in a tweedy effect. Usually it will be combined with such rich shades as emerald green, coppery brown or ruby red. Making exciting color news this fall are the many greens in evidence. Elegant emeralds, r a complete range of gentle olive tones as well as inky deep greens are all to be seen. Reds, too, made news, especially when they present a rosy outlook that has been lightly tinted by blue. That perennial favorite grey, continues to hold its ranking po sition for fall '52. Still popular for grey flannel, it will also be notable when combined with a series of tawny tones that may vary from light apricot to cara mel to the deep browns. The blues look fresher than ever in a variety of shades. neck and collars created to be worn in several ways. Simula tions of collars like tabs and dlong scarfs can be buttoned, tied or tossed over a shoulder to achieve a variety of elegantly casual effects. Then, under it all, in furs, there is the drama of linings. Lavish brocades, sudden, color contrasts, elegant prints and shimmering shantung and taf feta are all used to give furs an inside finishing touch of true luxurious appeal. COTTON NEWS Fashions in cotton are predict ed for greater popularity than ever during the coming Fall and Winter seasons. This year, cot ton takes on the look of tweed, and worsted suitings and may also be seen in printed flannel ettes and corduroys for gay sportswear as well as the new deep, glowing shades of the sea son. Comfort, convenience and practicality are now the import ant points to be considered when planning wardrobes for fall, Fresh colors and patterns are also in increased demand. . All of this is especially true in sportswear, with new fabrics and patterns leading the way to a more comfortable leisure-time. Last year's Tattersall check vests. though still most popular, are now appearing in sporting figure challis, all silk reps and with suede fronts. Sport jackets, a classic for lei sure wear this year, emphasize improved tailoring, newer fab rics combining wool with rab bit's hair, alpaca or other good "mixers." Checks, both subdued and bold, plaids and bold pat terns are among the leaders, all featuring richer color treat ments. For the man who prefers to stand in the front rank of fash ion, there is the belted jacket or Norfolk jacket. This English squire style, once so popular here in America, seems to be once more on the ascendancy. Outwear, too, is on the up surge with the variety of fabrics and styles attending new inter est. Man-made fibers in tandem with naturals can be regulated to meet any specific need de sired. The addition of water re pellency and zip-in linings added to the popularity increase by per mitting use in almost all kinds of weather. Leading the way is the storm, or stadium coat, with its infor mal good looks and down-to-cases practicalness. These are found in a variety of fabrics from smooth gabardine to nubby woolens, waist jackets and sur- coats, holding leading roles, also offer wide choices. One new model, in fact, provides a re movable fur collar for change with the weather. Almost forgotten a few years ago, sweaters are once again on the upgrade, being lead in the fashion drive by newer patterns and a wide selection of fibers, both natural and man made. Jacquard pattern sweaters, with plenty of color and styled for casual wear are making espec ially notable advances. With this wide selection avail able, there should be no diffi culty this year in choosing lei sure and sports wear. Comfort and color, convenience and prac ticality are almost guaranteed. Foundations Taking To Color Accents Foundation garments are tak ing to color, this fall, and come ready to blend or contrast direct ly with fashions worn above. In following the trends set by outer apparel, foundations are also offering extra high waist lines for molded midriff fashions and are paying special attention, in many instances, to hipline molding in order to provide a smoother curve for new torso clinging middies. There are also an increasing number of founda tion designs available that offer a maximum of . all-over control with a minimum of weight. Keeping close pace with the deeper tones of the fall fashion season are the foundation gar ments featured in black, navy and even brown. Some founda tions come dressed-up with touches of color in the trim, like embroidery, ribbons, insets and stitching. Many loundations are now available without boning or with lighter and more flexible substi tutes for boning used, in an ef fort to provide lighter weight be neath it all. FALL STYLE NOTES Clothing continues to "make the man" but with modified pad ding and artful shaping fol lowing the natural line of his shoulders and slenderizing his waist and hips. Casual Elegance In Women's Suits Forecast for Fall Suits for fall, featuring a note of casual elegance, can be seen in a variety of silhouettes, rang ing from the fur trimmed fall and winter type of suit to the ultra lady-like Empire style. For, this season, jackets are longer, ending just above or just at the mid-hip with slight pad ding, in some, providing gentle curve emphasis. Shoulders are a trifle wider than in past seasons. New skirts give a slim effect but are all eased by gores, a soft wrap style or pleats. Skirt pleat ing effects include all-around ac cordion pleats, pleats confined to each side of the skirt or low placed box pleats. Warm Luxury Most exciting fall suit fashion news is the Fall and Winter suit. This style usually includes a skirt and jacket or brief coat top in a matching snug coating fab ric. Many of these new, heavier suits have elegant fur trims that may be removable to make clean ing easier, like a collar, muff or even a lining featured in every thing from beaver to muskrat. Colors, such as purple or gold, are elegant as the suits them selves. The middy line, so popular for The HARVEST SPARKLING NEW FALL MERCHANDISE Fall 52, Is reflected in suits for the new season. The long torso effect of this line is sometimes accented by a self-color and self fabric, jacket hem band or trim patch pockets. Necklines, on middy suits, are, in many in stances, high cardigan styles that might have a removable tab col lar. Reflecting the lady-like ap peal of so many fashions de signed for fall, are the Empire suits and overblouse jacket suits. Detailing, just under the bosom, emphasizes the high lines of the Empire silhouette, while a bloused back and fitted hips create the jacket outlook of the overblouse jacket suit.
