Versatile Challis Finds Use in Many New Fall Garments Rayon challis prints are find ing their way into all sorts of new Fall clothes, offering won derful weight and wonderful texture. These challis prints run the gamut from blouses, daytime dresses and children's wear to coat and suit linings. One excit ing example is a travel coat of brilliant red corduroy which has been lined with a muted blue background challis print. And to make a complete go-everywhere ensemble, there is a dress of the identical challis print. And for a mother and daughter treat, a lit tle girl's dirndl in the same print. Many travel robes and house coats of challis will be available this coming Fall. They look new and exciting through imagina tive styling! One of the new synthetic fi bres, dynel, has been blended with cotton "and woven into an old fashioned challis print, as well as nosegay and tiny pais ley patterns. These prints are to be found in tailored shirts and matching skirts which may be mixed and matched with solid color separates. This printed fabric has also been designed into a pyramid housecoat, scarf dickies, scarfs and even the lining of a suit jacket that has a blouse to match. This is prophetic of the costume look, which The Silk and Rayon Print Institute pre dicts will make big fashion news for resort wear and next Spring. Also expected to be in the print picture for Fall are print ed crepes, in brilliant colors, that will add spice to autumn wardrobes and do double duty under Winter coats. For those who want an extra touch of fash ion variety, there is a new motre print on faille and a whole group of travel prints that give a tweedy look to a heavy rayon. Plaids Lose Top Rank In Newest Fall Styles Perennially - popular plaid will be missing Ibis season, from the lop fashion headlines. Shown in the somewhat great er extent In the young collec tions of fashions for the gram mar school into college groups, it is now regarded as a classic, rather than a top-ranking fash ion leader. Clan plaids, in separates or as accent pieces, will continue to hold their own with the campus crowds, from kindergarten to college, and many manufactur ers will continue to fill this need with basics. All wool skirts flared or pleat ed slim, tapered slacks jackets in either cardigan or notched collar styles vests and weskits all hold their own with consistent popularity, particularly when teamed with solids, in greys or the even-newer camel shades. TISSUE TRICKS To preserve the lines of your suits and dresses, try tucking gently wadded tissue paper in to stand-out pockets, necklines, under padded hips and "poufs." A few sheets of tissue inside your blouses will keep them fresh and wrinkle-free in bur eau drawers. (Left) Jet beading adds Middy Line or Tulip Look Autumn Fashions Promise Easy To Wear Fashion has a gentle, lady-like look this Fall and appears in a variety of easy silhouettes bound to be pleasing to all. . Texture-conscious fabrics are restrained and' gentle to the touch. Colors are warm and ele gant. Silhouettes follow natural lines or are designed to em phasize curves. Details, on everything from dresses to coats etch a pretty line, bustle out, drape graciously, gleam, glitter, and in most instances, show off exquisite workmanship. Take the texture-some Fall fabrics, for example. Fur fibres are plended right in with fleeces, jerseys and suiting woolens to provide greater lustre and downy luxury. Hand-Made Look Tweeds have lost their exag gerated rough and rugged out look and, instead, are now spongy and gentle, often with a handmade look. Perennially fav ored crepes are easier than ever to drape, and chiffons and geor gettes, elegant with pleats, are ready for a romantic Fall or Winter's evening. Black highlights the tone depths of the new season. It re vives "the little black dress," ap pears alone or etched by a con trasting texture or in combina tion with one of the new deep autumn shades like coppery brown or emerald green. Green becomes a Fall fashion color, once more, and can be seen in every shade from olive to deep, deep green. The browns, too, make fashion color news, in a variety of tones that range from the palest of beiges to the richest of earthy tones. And ever popular grey is notable in a gamlut of shades from pale misty grey to blackboard grey. Tulip Look Fashion takes hold of flares and carefully controls them to give coats a fresh new silhouette. The tulip look, with flare con centrated to the sides of the coat, appears on the Fall scene. The barrel coat, another new fashion entry, is narrow at the shoulders, widens out on its downward path, then tapers again at the hem. The Martingale belt brings back interest to new coats. When placed high, this exciting new detail innovation, takes a direct cue from Paris designs. When placed below the waistline of a coat, the Martingale belt achieves a middy outlook. Suits, casually elegant for the new season, have especially easy-to-wear lines. Jackets are longer' and shoulders are wider than in past seasons. Skirts, slim in effect, have detailing, like gores and pleats, that give them generous ease for walking. Exciting suits new for Fall, are the suits made of snug coat ing fabrics. These, very often have rich touches of fur at the collar, as a lining, or in the form of a cuff. And, in most instances, appear in colors as elegant as the suits themselves, such as gold and purple. Longer Jackets The middy line is shown to ad- advantage in the longer jackets of new season suits. Often a self band or trim patch pockets at the jacket hem will accent the middy look. Empire suits, with high-rising lines emphasized by details placed just beneath the bosom, and overblouse jacket suits that have bloused backs and slim fitting hips, are also to drama to this knit of grey rib bed woolen by Suzy Perette. New dresses take advantage of wandering waistlines and fea ture them in a sufficient number of ways to offer a pleasing selec tion to women of every size. High crushed cummerbund ef fects, low sleek torso lines, a soft natural look, cuffed middy style, and a snug-fitting corselet waist line are all to be had in Fall dresses. Also newsworthy in dresses for Fall is the costume look. This too, is achieved in a number of flattering ways. Decollete neck lines have little fill-ins like as cots or dickeys, that can be re moved on more dress-up occa sions. Other frocks have tiny molding coverups that remove to reveal a style that looks as though it had never been design ed for a cover-up. Fur coats, featured for the sea son to come, are neither too slim nor overly full, but present a most elegant appearance. In many instances, new styles ac centuate the over-all softness of the season. WOOL CARE Brush woolens frequently and vigorously, giving special" atten tion to folds and pockets not usually exposed to light. Wool ens should be aired often and any that are stored during the Fall and Winter months should be placed in containers which have been mothproofed and can be tightly sealed. SMALL AND NEAT Newest tie patterns, for Fall, are spaced geometries and in teresting, smaller .versions of modern and traditional motifs. I jadieys U s i by Adele Simpson. CLEAN RIDERS Soiled sections of riding breeches can be spot cleaned with a soapy sponge or cloth. Lay the fabric flat on a table and rub with suds. Wipe the suds off with a clean rinsing cloth, shake and smooth out wrinkles, and hang the breeches upside down to dry. Autumn Bride Has Elegant Choice of Wedding Costumes Brides-to-be, planning . Fall weddings, will have an elegant choice of gowns awaiting them. These are designed, for the most part, for flattering wear on the "Great Day," then for storing away for a daughter's or grand daughter's proud wear at some date far in the future. The heirloom quality of new bridal gowns is portrayed in their traditionally elaborate styling, their many elegant de tail touches and in the sturdy, yet floatingly lovely qualities of the nylon tulle and nylon net fabrics being used for so many of the new bridal creations. ' Whether she decides upon floor length or new shorter style gown, this Fall's bride will dis cover many designs created over a dress that will also give her pleasing wearing possibilities during her honeymoon and even at later gala occasions. Stoles, Jackets Two-part bridal attire, of this type, may have an extravagant ly tiered overskirt, it might have a long sleeve Mandarin jacket covering a decollete gown or it might be designed with a match ing ethereal net stole. Also excitingly new for bridal attire is the middy silhouette which, in one instance, is defm ed by precious seed pearls around the hips. Newly rounded cathedral or chapel length trains are featured on many full length bridal gowns. Other elaborate touches include eye-appealing glitter such as sequins and seed pearls or such rich additions as side panels, aprons, detachable fichus and double bodices achieved with double folds of fabric. Lavish Duets Nylon tulle and net, being in troduced for Fall and Winter bridal wear, is sometimes fea tured alone, but more often it is combined with such seasonal fabrics as lace, satin, velveteen, taffeta and faille. Typical example of this com bination might be a satin dress covered with a lace trimmed net over-frock. Although gleaming white is still very much in favor for, the bridal picture, there are also a number of pretty pastels now available. They include pink, pale blue, mint green and topaz SMART SCENT Here are a few unusual fra grance tricks. Use toilet water in hair setting. The hair will dry quickly and a delightful fra grance will remain. Spray the insides of gloves with toilet water. Use a fragrant bath soft ener in the tub. Even after a vigorous towelling, a delicate fragrance will remain on the body and act as a base for the perfume. Making important Fall fash ion news are the wandering waistlines seen on new dresses, These include high crushed cummerbund effects, low sleek torso lines, a soft natural look, cuffed middy style and a snug fitting corselet waistline. :Also providing exciting fash ion news are the necklines that go down, stand away or offer a gracious drape . In many in stances, these lowered necklines have modes! cover-ups such as dickeys or scarfs. The new deeper shades, in troduced for Fall 52, herald the return of "the little black dress' which may be featured alone or with a contrasting texture out line or accented by another color. Rich dark greens have also returned to the dress fashion scene, as have all of the russet tones, and grey from the very lightest shades to the very dark smokey greys. Making the most of new deep shades is the great stress on fab ric interest for dresses. Many new synthetic blends, like ny lon and Dacron, for example, are featured for the new season as are fabrics that take on the appearance of others. Cottons that look like tweeds or worst eds are typical examples. The costume look, representa tive of the importance of versa tility to today's way of living, is much in evidence in new Fall frocks. Both traditional suit dresses and one-piece styles achieve this popular look. There are, for instance, the scarf and dickey fill - ins that are removable for dress-up occa sions. Little fitted jackets come with dresses designed to look, when worn alone, as though no coverup belonged to it.
