Fall Coats Adapt New Silhouettes In Latest Styles Coats, for Fall, are designed to flatter every figure and every way of living. Silhouettes are newly subdued with extra fashion excitement centered at the sleeves and neck lines. And textured fabrics have been softened and refined to cre ate a truly lady-like air. Most newsworthy, perhaps, of the coats created for the new season, is the tulip silhouette. This features fullness, achieved by pleats or gores, which starts below the hipline. It is particu larly effective, when its easy fit ting lines are topped by a circlet of fur at the neckline. The barrel, or convex silhou ette, is another coat, type fea tured for Fall wear. Narrow at the shoulders, this coat gradually flares out and then tapers to a close hugging line by the time f reaches the hemline. Fltied Styles Also expected to be among the top coat favorites for Fall are fit ted styles that may either take shape as snug, slim wraps or effect great femininity with a nipped-in waist and wide, flaring skirt. The wandering waistline so popular in the Fall '52 fashion picture is represented in coats in a variety of flattering ways. Foremost of these is the Martin gale belt which, when placed below the waistline of a coat back, achieves a middy outlook, and when placed high above the waistline of the coat back, takes its cue from Paris designs. Shoulders, in many instances, are wider than those offered in past years. They may drop into a full-blown sleeve tapered and simple at the wrist. Other sleeves bell out from the elbow. Some offer a flared cape effect, either at the wrist or just above. And others nip in, then flare out with a brief cuff treatment. Collars are completely nonex istent or dramatically large in size. Typical of the collarless neckline is the high-buttoned cardigan effect, 'while popular for over-size collars are wide. shoulder-to-shoulder mantle col lars, which in many instances provide major style appeal for the entire coat. Fall Elegance Details on the simple, yet ele gant styles presented for Fall, add to the femininity of the coats. Fringes, in self colors, are used to outline collars, cuffs and closings. Fur trims, often removable, are used generously, sometimes as huge cuffs which are the out standing eye-compelling feature of the coat. Both long and short hair fur trims may also be seen as little girl collars, long, slim shawl collars or short shawl co- ars and as neckine circlets. Exciting coat fabrics, predict ed to be popular for Fall, are gentled, brushed poodle cloths, fabrics softened with fur hairs, color mixture tweeds, alpaca piles that give fur-like effects, and cashmeres, camels hair and precious vicuna. Coat colors are expected to in clude the entire family of green, ranging from bright Kelly shades to olive shades and deep bronzines; reds will cover the shade gamut from red-red to heady wine tones; browns will include the palest of beiges to the rich earthy tones; and black, used either as an all-over motif, or in combination with other colors, as is the case for many of the new tweeds. v 1 VINCENT MONTE-SANO em phasizes the slim silhouette with batwing sleeves in this stunning coat of "Spanish green" wool fleece. Scene of the story, "Dracula," s laid in Rumania. Hose Shades Cued To New'Fall Hues . There's a clear tang to hosiery shades featured for fall. These take their cue from footwear of fered for 'the1 new season in deeper shades, like ruby red, em erald green, the brown tones and black that are complementary to fashions worn above. To blend with the many deep er shades on hand, there are such new hosiery casts as illusion tones that match with black; ex citing browns and a tawny beige created to go with ginger and spice tones; brown, taupes and deep neutrals with raisin casts that go with new grape purples. Lighter hosiery shades are also available to contrast with cos tume colors. These include such tones as beige taupe, gentle natural shades, shades with rosy overcasts, neutral buff tones and misty taupes. Reversible seams are one of the new . detail innovations for fall hosiery. Wear them on one side and the seam is. natural. Undercover Story For New Middy Look With the middy silhouette so important in the Fall '52 fash ion picture, fashion authorities stress the necessity of corres ponding figure control. The high top girdle which Is built up high in front two to four inches above the waistline is the best type of foundation for the middy line. Full - length corsets with strong control over the hips and sturdy but flexible control over the waistline are also advised. Most middy styles require foundations with rigid paneling over the hips as this slim hip line is part of the "middy look." Fashion experts stress, above all, the smooth, elongated torso as the effect most desired with this Fall's middy fashions. MORE PONCHOSl For combination with middy hipline skirts are cotton poncho overblouses. Shirred from a round or slit neckline, elastic ized waistbands or self - belts nip in the shirt - tailed poncho. New Fall Formals Taking To Cover Whether floor nr strppt. Ipnpth. new formals for Fall offer fash ion news in the great array of modestly feminine cover-ups they present, and the eye- com pelling attention paid to their waistlines. Dramatic wrap-around stoles, tiny removable figure - hugging jackets and little framing spen cer tops as well as miniature sleeves and straps and dainty fichu backs are all created to serve as cover-ups for the many bare-top gowns available for the new season. Also exciting, in the new gown picture, is the great variety of waistline effects. For, on hand for Fall is the low-placed middy line, snug corselet and cummer bund effects and the high-rising Directoire waistline. Back bows, bustles and sashes make back of the gown fashion news, while a wealth of lace, velvet, rhinestone, sequin and other glittering bead trims lend to the air of fabulous femininity. Predicted to be favorite form al fabrics for Fall are rich look ing jacquard taffetas, sleek sat ins, floating nylon net and nylon tulle and rustling taffeta. These will be featured in a wide choice of elegant colors like "bright reds, vivid greens and existing blues, as well as the always popular pastels.
