Mrs. Fitzgerald is spending a few weeks as a guest of Dr. and Mrs. Lemery. . ' ' " Pouring during the afternoon were Mrs. N. B. Bender, Mrs. Don Newbury, Mrs. Earl Law son, Mrs. M. N. Hogan, ' Mrs. Burt L. Lageson, Mrs. Edwin R. Durno, Mrs. C. I. Drummond, Mrs. Raymond Miksche and Mrs. William McAllister. Assist ing were the Misses Ann Hart and Kaye Durno. About 150 guests were bidden to the event. Sojourners Introduce New Club Members At Meeting Thursday Medford Sojourners club as sembled at the Medford hotel Thursday afternoon, August 14 with Mrs. Ralph Krows, Mrs. N. E. Crosby and Mrs. G. E. Mason acting as hostesses. Prospective members were in troduced and included Mrs. D. C. Goodman, formerly of Port land; Mrs. L. A. Edington from Spokane; Mrs. D.. H. Hinesly from Santa Ana, Calif.; and Mrs. D. M. Anselm from Eugene. New members were Mrs. O. W. Lar son, Mrs. H. H. Howard, and Mrs. W. P. Downing Special prizes were awarded to Mrs. L. A. Edington, Mrs. B. F. Coleman and Mrs. H. W. Sturgeon. Bridge awards went to Mrs. Edington and Mrs. C. M. Lee. Pinochle prizes 'were awarded to Mrs. H. H. Howard and Mrs. T. B. Keig, and canasta prizes to Mrs. P. R. Sipple and Mrs. O. W. Larson A guest, Mrs S. F. Coleman, San Mateo, Calif., was intro duced. The next meeting of Sojourn ers club will be Thursday, Aug ust 23, and all women having lived in Medford two years or less are invited. Three Couples Give Large Cocktail Party One of summer's largest par ties was given last evening by Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Littrell, Dr. and Mrs. L. L. Sanders and Mr. and Mrs. Dave Brainerd. The event was a cocktail party at the Littrell's home, Fairview, with guests bidden be tween . five and. eight o'clock. About 300 were invited. Married Gold Hill Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lucas, married recently in Cali fornia, have arrived in Gold Hill to make their home. Mrs. Lucas is the former Miss Beverly Dair of San Geronimo, Calif., and the marriage took place Sunday, August 3, at San Rafael. Mr. Lucas is the son -of Mrs. Lester Parker, Old Stage road. Miss Donna McCullough Honored at Showers; Plan September Rites Miss Donna G a y e 1 Mc Cullough, whose wedding to Robert C. De Voe is set for Fri day, September 12, has ' been feted with several bridal show ers recently. : Mrs. Steve . Saimons, 1035 Winchester street, honored the bride-elect with a miscellaneous shower August 7. About 25 guests attended and games-were played during the evening. Priz es were won by Mrs. Sam Jones. Mrs. Don Ward and Mrs. Frank Ward. Gifts were arranged on a cart decorated with pink and white crepe paper. Miss Carol Lausmann was hostess at a party given at her home, 200 Medford Heights on August 5, with Mrs. A. A. Laus mann assisting her daughter. About. 15 guests were present, and gifts for Miss McCullough were on a coffee "table with a red umbrella over the top.. Another -shower is planned for August 30 at Hilt, Calif. Mrs. Don Ward and Mrs. Fred Haynes will be hostesses, and 32 guests ,are invited. 1 Honor Phoenix Couple With Shower Party; Wedding To Be Today Phoenix Miss Bonnie Bote fur and Wesley Claflin were honored at a shower given Aug ust 8 by Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Claflin. The shower was held on the lawn at the Claflin home, and refreshments were served on the natio. Assisting Mrs. Claflin were Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Ger mer. Miss Botefur and Mr. Claflin will be married Sunday, August 17, at three o'clock in the Phoe nix Presbyterian church. It is stated that friends of the couple are invited to attend. Present for the shower party were Mr. and Mrs. Mark Norton, Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Claflin, Mr. and Mrs. V. C. Claflin and chil dren, Michaer and Cherryl; Mr. and Mrs. Dick Kane and daugh ter, Cathy; Mr. and Mrs. Chester Keen Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Albert Weyer, Mrs. Tom Bell, Miss Bar bara Frye, Miss Myrna Ford, Donald Randle, Otto Caster,-Lee Claflin and the guests of honor. Clerks and Auxiliary Hold Picnic In Park The National Federation of Post Office Clerks Local No. 342 and the auxiliary held a pic nic at TouVelle State park fast Sunday., .... 'After a fried chicken dinner, the clerks served coffee and des sert, which they furnished. Thirty people- attended. Swimming and baseball were enjoyed during the afternoon.'In the evening the clerks chal lenged the auxiliary to a game of softball. The final score was 62 to 44 in favor of the women. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam D. Rutherford, McMinn ville, and the bridegroom's par ents are Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Gray, 18 Modoc avenue, Med ford. The couple exchanged memo rized vows in a double-ring ceremony before the Rev. Law rence Guderian at four o'clock: in the afternoon. White and lav ender gladiolus formed a set ting for the bridal party. Miss Ellen Louise Stone was soloist, and Mrs. George Muhle was at the organ. The bride's gown was of white chantilly lace over taffeta fashioned with fitted bodice and full skirt. Her french illusion veil, trimmed with lace, was held by a juliet cap of lace -and pearls and she carried white orchids, roses and stephanotis. Miss Mary Kay Reeves, Leb anon, sorority sister of the bride, was maid-of-honor and brides maids were Miss Jane Cline and Miss Molly Mattecheck, Mc Minnville. Miss Sue Gray, sister of the bridegroom, was junior bridesmaid. The attendants' ballerina style gowns were of dotted swiss over taffeta worn with big sashes of matching taffeta, small caps and mitts to match. Miss Reeves and Miss Gray's gowns were laven der, and they carried baskets of lavender ester reed daisies. Miss Cline and Miss Mattecheck were gowned in yellow and they car ried baskets of yellow daisies. Mrs. James Case and Mrs. Richard Close, sorority sisters of the bride, lighted the candles. They wore matching ballerina gowns of pink organdy.. Robert Gray was best man for his brother and ushers were Richard Henselman, Medford, Herm Kaiser, Eugene; Gayl Ness, Berkeley, Calif., and Nor man Combs, McMinnville, fra ternity brothers of the bride groom. For the wedding and recep tion the bride's mother wore a ballerina gown of rose silk organza over taffeta and a white orchid corsage. The bride groom's mother was gowned in a ballerina dress of gray lace worn with purple accessories and her corsage was a lavender orchid. The reception which followed was in Youngson hall. Pouring serving and assisting at the re ception were Mrs. Ronald Ruth erford, Mrs. Arlie Walker, Mrs. Art Beedle, Mrs. Neil Pyle, Mrs. Bruce Chalmers, Miss Nancy Wells, Mrs. James Bunnage, Mrs. Glen Patton, Mrs. Donald Hendrickson, Miss Pat Clark, Miss Shirley . Quilliam, Miss Pauline Deggendorfer and Mrs. Jennie Fink. Miss Mary Adams andMrs. Richard. Boubel provided back ground music for the reception and sorority sisters of the bride serenaded the couple with the sweetheart songs of the bride and bridegroom's fraternal groups. Mr. Gray and his bride made a wedding trip to Victoria, B.C., and are now at home at Hay ward, Calif., where Mr. Gray is with the consumer research divi sion of Continental Can com pany. Mrs. Gray will teach home economics in San Lorenzo High school this fall. The bride was graduated from McMinnville High school and Oregon State college- where she was a Pi Beta Phi sorority mem ber. Mr. Gray served with the army after graduation from high school and is an alumnus of Ore gon State college where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon. In addition to the bride groom's parents and sister, those attending the wedding from Medford were Mr. and Mrs. Richard Henselman and Miss Jane Barker. Dinner Meeting Held By Eagle Point Group Eagle Point Members of Eagle Point Lions auxiliary held the monthly meeting at Dead Indian Soda Springs lodge Mon day, with a dinner preceding the meeting. ' (Forget Studio) Committee Honors Miss Alice Grace Miss Alice Grace, who resign ed recently asf assistant proba tion officer of the Jackson Coun ty juvenile court, was honor guest at a luncheon given for her by the advisory committee of the juvenile court in appre ciation for her work there. The luncheon was held at the coun try club Wednesday, August 13. Those attending the luncheon included Mrs. Chester Guches, Mrs. Una B. Inch, Mrs. Marjory Hopkins, Mrs. Henry Padgham, Mrs. William Thorndike, Mrs. Kay Kunkle, new juvenile offi cer, Miss Laura York, Miss Jean Parker, Mrs. B. C. Tennant, Mrs. Dunbar Carpenter and Mrs. Blanche Lyman. . They presented Miss .Grace with a gift. She left Friday for Seattle where she will make her home and be on the staff of a Seattle youth center. To See Plays Dr. Pauline Alderman, music ologist who teaches at the Uni versity of California at Los Art geles, will arrive soon to attend the Shakespearean Festival at Ashland. Visits in California Mrs. Esther Jones, 31 Myers court, left Saturday for Susan ville, Calif., to. visit her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. V. Jones and son, Billy Dale. Mr. Jones is with the U.S. For est Service there. After spending about two weeks visiting with them, Mrs. Jones will return to Medford. Women To Hold 1 Picnic in Ashland Altrusa, Rotana, Zonta and the Credit Women's Breakfast clubs will join with the Business and Professional Women's club for a picnic next Thursday evening, August 21, at 6:30 in Lithia park, Ashland. Each organization will arrange for its members to provide food and the BPW will serve ice cream and coffee for all. Table service is to be taken by each club woman. The September meeting of the BPW will be devoted to mem bership with "Know Your BPW" as its theme. The program for the year will be outlined by Miss Dana Platz, program Coor dinator. 1 Son Honor Guest At Party Friday Mr. and 'Mrs. Luther Stone, 70 Janney lane, have been enter taining Mr. Stone's son, Luther E. Stone, Schenectady, N. Y., for the past week. A party was given at the Stone home Friday evening in his honor. Guests were Mrs. Carl von der Hellen and daughter, Mrs. James Luce, Mr. and Mrs. Berthold Barnum and Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Allen Jr. and family. While he is here the Stones and Barnums have been attend ing the Shakespearean plays at Ashland also. The visitor is with the General Electric company and came to Medford to vacation after spend- j mg a week in Los Angeles with relatives. He will return home this week end by plane. Roxy Ann Court Sets Annual Dinner On Thursday Night The annual progressive din ner of Roxy Ann court, Order of the Amaranth, has been sched uled for Thursday, August 21st, at 6:30 p.m. The dinner will be gin with fruit cocktail served at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Herb Morris, 1416 Crown avenue. Sal ad will be served at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn L. Linn, 119 Washington street, Mr. and Mrs. Elton Waldron, 630 South Holly street, will serve the en tree and Mr. and Mrs. John Esp, Eagle Point, will serve dessert. Presbyterians Plan Missionary Tea First Presbyterian church will hold a silver Missionary tea at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 19. Mrs. Bert Elliott will" show slides on Palestine, Mfs. Hugh Collins will present the devo tions and there wil be special music. Merritt and Ever Ready circle members will serve at the tea. This missionary tea is an an- rnual function given by Presby terian women throughout the country for a national project. This project is to raise funds for the Valley Presbyterian hospi tal, Palmer, Alaska, which is the only medical help of its kind in the Yukon Presbytery. 1 Hayes' Daughters . ' Visit Parents Here Dr. and Mrs. James E. Hayes have as guests at their home on the Rogue river, their three daughters from Portland and St. Louis, Mo. Their son-in-law and daugh ter, Mr. and Mrs. William Ehr man and children, Gayle, Laurie and Lisa, Portland, have been there a week and plan to stay for another month. Miss Mary Hayes, St. Louis, arrived home Friday and will also stay a month. The third daughter, Miss Virginia Hayes, wjll return to her home in Portland today. She has been spending a week with her parents. - Medford Woman Home After Two-Months Trip Mrs. Laura Alldredge, 1504 West Main street, returned to Medford Thursday after a two months trip east. She visited her nephew, Leighton Housh, who is sports editor of the Des Moines Register-Tribune, and other relatives and friends in Des Moines, la.
