TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Sunday, August 10, 1951 Church Rites Wed Miss Jan Freeman, Benjamin Carter Central Point The wedding of 'Miss Jan Freeman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Freeman. Central Point, to Benjamin Rob- ert Carter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph C. Edwards, Central Point, was an event of Sunday August 3. The bridegroom is a ship's serviceman third class in the United States Navy. The Rev. D. E. Millard, Eagle Point, officiated at the double ring ceremony held at the home of the bride's parents at 4 o'clock in the afternoon. Baskets of pink and white gladiolus and roses decorated the room. - Given in marriage by her fa ther, the bride wore a ballerina length dress of white embroi dered organdy. Her headdress was of white carnations and she carried a white carnation and stephanotis nosegay. Mrs. R. M. Korner, cousin of the bride, was matron of honor. She was attired in a street length dress of blue embossed sheer and a white carnation headdress. Her nosegay was of white carnations. Acting as best man was Joseph C. Edwards father of the bridegroom. A reception followed the cere mony at the bride s home. The bridegroom's mother served the cake and punch. The couple took a wedding trip to Diamond Lake and Crater Lake, and the bride is now mak ing her home temporarily with her parents while her husband is on duty aboard ship now sta tioned at Newport, R.I. He will leave for a tour of . duty in Northern European waters at the end of August. The bride was graduated from Central Point high school and attended Oregon State college. She is now employed as a re ceptionist by Dr. F. A. Free burger, Medford. The bride groom attended Central Point high school and has been in the Navy for the past 41-4 years. Miss' Clara Johnson And Donald Wendt Set Wedding Date The engagement and forthcom ing marriage of Miss Clara L. Johnson, Jacksonville, daughter of Mrs. Lilian Miller, Portland,! to Donald W. Wendt, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Wendt, Jack sonville, was announced re cently. The marriage ceremony is planned for August 29 in the Jacksonville Presbyterian church. Miss Johnson attended Lin field college and now teaches at the Jacksonville high school. The prospective bridegroom attended Jacksonville high school, the University of Oregon, and Mon terey junior college. He is now employed by the Southern Pa cific railroad company, Medford. (Brainerd photo) Entertain Guests At Findley Home Dr. and Mrs. Walton Prescott and children arrived yesterday in Medford from their home in Grass Valley, Calif., and are guests of Dr. and Mrs. Dwight Findley and family, Old Stage road. Dr. Prescott and Dr. Findley served together in the United States Air Force during World War II and the two families have spent some time together each summer in recent years. Recent guests of the Findleys were Mr. and Mrs. 'Wilfred Stump and daughter, Audrey, of Ketchikan, Alaska. Mr. Stump is an attorney there. Borg Jr. In Arizona Rites The wedding of Miss Glenna Olmsted, 'daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Olmsted, Winslow, Ariz., to Carl Edward Borg Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl E. Borg, 324 Peach street, Medford, was held July 12. The afternoon ceremony was performed in First Methodist church, Winslow. bv the Rev. J. E. Schaefer of Trinity Lu theran church there. After the double-ring ceremony, a receo- tion was held in the gardens of the Lutheran church. The couple made a wedding trip to Lake Tahoe. Nev. and then the bridegroom reported to his army base in San Francisco. He is a graduate of Medford high school and attended the University of Oregon and, grad uated irom Southern Oregon college in 1951. The bride has just completed a year of nurse's training in Baltimore, Md. and plans to continue her training course. Medford Women To Tour Europe . Mrs. William H. Fluhrer, 2525 Lyman avenue, and Miss Elea nor Ames, 1271 Kings highway, a sister, left Friday for the east coast and Europe. The two will take delivery of a car in Eng land and plan to spend several weeks touring in the British isles and on the continent. They will sail from Le Havre November 6 for the return trip. Miss Jane Durno To Visit Parents Miss Jane Durno will arrive tomorrow by air from Boston, Mass., where she is a student nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing. Miss Durno will visit her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Edwin R. Durno, 222 Valley View drive. The Durno's youngest daugh ter, Kaye, has just returned home after a visit with her sis ter, Miss Anne, in California, and the latter is expected to ar rive here the latter part of the week in order that the family may be together for a few days. Miss Kaye Durno will enroll at the University of Oregon this fall, and Miss Anne is an em ployee of Trans-World airlines. 1 Meeting Scheduled For Gorsline Circle Members of Gorsline Mission ary Circle will meet at the home of Mrs. Don Minear, Jacksonville-Phoenix road, at 7:30 p.m. Monday, August 11. The regular business meeting will be followed by a White Cross work period. Those at tending are asked to bring scis sors and wool pieces for quilt blocks. Meeting Scheduled For Bible Class Miss Anna Streed's Bible class will meet at the home of Mrs. S. D. Earhart, 11 North Peach street, instead of at the home of Mrs. Robert Shock as was origi nally planned. The meeting will be at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 12. Presbyterian Rites Wed Cecile Morris To Richard Camden An event of July 31 was the wedding of Miss Cecile Louine Morris to Richard Joseph Cam den, the rites having been read at First Presbyterian church. The bride is a daughter of Mrs. A. M. Davis, Azalea, Ore., and A. C. Morris, Los Angeles. Mr. Camden's parents are Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Camden, 819 West Thirteenth street. The Rev. D. Kirkland West officiated at the ceremony, held at eight o'clock in the evening. The bride, who has made her home in recent years with Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Holmes, route 1, was given in marriage by Mr. Holmes. Arrangements of pink and white gladiolus decorated - the church and sprays of these flow ers marked the pew ends. Pre ceding the ceremony Miss Duane Carole Maddox sang. She was accompanied by Mrs. E. S. Veatch, sister of Mrs. Holmes from Klamath Falls, who also played the wedding marches. The bride's gown was of nylon net and lace designed with peter pan collar and three-quarter lace si . --ves. Her finger-tip length veil was held by a coronet of pearls, and her bouquet was of white gladiolus. Miss Yvonne Keith was maid-of-honor for the bride. She wore a gown of green nylon net over taffeta and carried pale pink gladiolus. Miss Patricia Crow, bridesmaid, wore yellow nylon net over taffeta and her flowers were yellow gladiolus. A. L. Clay was best man for t' bridegroom and ushers were Bob Gray, Phil Sanders, John Grabow and Frank Morris, brother of the tiride. The reception which followed tho ceremony was given in the church parlor by Mr. and Mrs. Holmes. Mrs. John Moffat poured and Miss Josephine Kirt ley cut' the wedding cake, as sisted by Mrs. George Kerr, Mrs. Holmes' niece from Walla Walla, Wash. Miss Kirtley cut the cake with an heirloom knife belong in., to Mrs. W. J. Warner which has been used for weddings in the valley for the past 45 years. For the Camden-Morris recep tion it was decorated with a spray of tiny pink rosebuds. Mrs. George Moore, Mrs. John Moffat, Mrs. Lyle Van Scoy and Mrs. Victor Sether arranged the liurch flowers and members of Grace circle of the church, with Mrs. Lewis Ulrich assisting, decorated the bride's table and the reception rooms with gladi olus blossoms. About 125 relatives and friends attended the wedding and reception. Mr. Camden and his bride are spending their honeymoon on the Oregon coast and upon their re turn will live temporarily at 819 West Thirteenth street. Later tl y will leave for Chicago where Mr. Camden will continue his education at Northwestern university. The bride and bridegroom both were graduated from Med ford Senior High school and the bride is an assistant to Dr. Thomas H. Emmens. The bride groom attended the University of Oregon before entering the Chicago school. Here for the wedding were the bride's mother from Azalea, her father and brothers, Danny and Dick, Los Angeles; her brother, Jack Morris from an air force base in Mississippi; Mrs. George Kerr and daughter, Nancy, Wal la Walla; Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Veatch, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Veatch, Klamath Falls; Mrs. Roy Camden, aunt of the bridegroom from Oberammergau, Germany; Mrs. George Parker, sister-in-law of Mrs. Holmes and Mrs. R. H. Dunbar, her sister, both from Klamath Falls. On Vacation Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Spence and daughters, Toni and Cheryl, 1410 West Main street, are spending a two weeks vacation in the Cascade mountains. MAIN Budget Terms If You Wish Miss Maddox Honored At Shower Parties; Wedding Next Sunday Miss Duane Carole Maddox, whose wedding to A. L. Clay is set for Sunday, August 17, has been feted with several bridal showers recently. Miss Lovelle Davies was host ess at a party given in the Davies' yard, 1J79 Spring street, Thursday evening. Gifts of linen were arranged in a wheel barrow decorated with tinfoil, red and white paper, and butter flies which Miss Davies had made. About 10 guests were present, and Miss Patsy Davies assisted her sister as hostess. Mrs. E. Ronald Rice, 302 Van couver avenue, honored Miss Maddox with a kitchen shower. About 22 men and women were invited, and Mrs. Charles Martin assisted the hostess. During the evening the men embroidered a set of tea towels which Mrs. Rice presented to the bride. Another shower was given for Miss Maddox by Mrs. H. Chand ler Drew, 3528 Delta Waters road. About 25 guests attended the party and Miss Maddox was presented a shower of miscel laneous gifts. Travelers Return From Alaskan Trip Mrs. Rosalee Davis, Evelyn apartments, returned recently from a two week cruise to Alas ka aboard the U.S.S. Aleutian Alaska. With her was Mrs. George Beck, Dunsmuir, Calif. They left Seattle, July 18 and travelled to Wrangell, Valdez, Juneau and Seward, taking a few hours to sightsee in each place the ship docked. From Seward, they took a train to Anchorage where they spent a day. Mrs. Davis talked of the beauty of the mountains and glaciers, and said that there was only rain for a short time one day of the trip. To Hold Reunion Of James Family The home of Mrs. H. B. Janes, 2527 Capitol avenue, will be the scene of a family reunion this week. Her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harris B. Janes and daughters, Brenda and Cath erine, arrived last night from Colorado Springs. Another son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W. Dolph Janes and daugh ter Alice, Eugene, Ore., will join the group Wednesday for the reunion. Virginia Couple Visit in Medford Recent visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Bowers, 48 Rose avenue, were their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. C. V. Bowers, Arlington, Va. Mr. Bowers is heating engi neer in charge of about 40 schools in the Arlington school system. His wife is a grade school teacher in that city. While here the couple visited the coast and other places of in terest in Southern Oregon." They left for home last week end.
