The Ladds recent ly celebrated their 10th wed- rlinrf finnitare. Aline Mosby ... ' ry with a n ward from a local business man's association for being "the most happily-wed" couple in Filmtown. Many movie mates insist they are happy because their spouses stay far from the sound stages. But Ladd thinks his tie-up is for keeps because Sue knows almost as much about his job as he does. "In a marriage the woman has to be involved in the man's business," he decided. That's the most important thing. The man wants someone to talk to about his job. It brings them closer together." Hired as Agent The top boxoffice profile met his ex-actress wife when he hired her as his agent 12 years ago. They became friends and he helped her with her career. Two years later they married, and she helped him with his. She's not his agent any more but he still helps him pick scripts. She advises him on his new War ner contract and made sure he got the snazziest dressing room at Universal-International where he's now on loan for "Desert Le gion." She even helps out on his press interviews. Arguments Helpful -' The Ladds figure they've es caped the divorce courts by hav ing a healthy argument now and then, too. "We discuss our problems be tween the two of us," Ladd said. They both love a com fortable home and children and believe in being "considerate and thoughtful." If such a request catches me fresh out of authorities I try to wriggle out of it with as much dignity as possible unfortunate ly the very thought of pulling my dignity on any one is so amusing that I make a poor job Proposed Central Point Fire District Approved by Vote Central Point The proposed rural fire district surrounding the city of Central Point was ap proved by an 81 -vote majority Monday, according to officials of the present rural fire depart ment. The vote was 110 to 29. Vote by polling places was Ta ble Rock school, 30 yes, 6 no; West Side school, 34 yes, 18 no; and Howard school, 46 yes, 5 no. Five directors were elected to head the district. They are Claude Hoover, 100 votes; Dr. Alvin Roberts, 108 votes; A. C. Thompson, 101 votes; A. W. (Bill) Lingaas, 98 votes; and David DeArmond, 90 votes. Other can didates were John Wheeler, 69 votes; and Harry Dunn, Walter Graff and V. W. Kengla, each with one write-in vote. To Meet Monday The first meeting of the board of directors will be next Monday, after a certificate of election is issued by the county clerk's of fice. The mayor and council of Cen tral Point, last night unanimous ly extended congratulations to the backers of the district and the voters who supported its passage in the election.- The council said it is willing and able now to cooperate with the board of directors of the new district in arranging future han dling of fire problems of the area. The council will meet with the new directors soon in an attempt "to make a long-range plan for the betterment of the city and rurnl district." They cited the formation of the district as "a step forward in the progress of the area adjacent to Central Point." The largest splinter party vote total was polled in 1912 by Theodore Roosevelt running on the Progressive, or Bull Moose, ticket. He got 88 electoral votes against 435 for Woodrow Wilson. about the atro- of it. Besides be ing discourteous and scurrilous this corgspondent betrays sin gular ignorance of what is still happening with frightful fre quency throughout the country, namely, failure of a child to re cover from tonsillectomy. The newspapers carry brief items telling of such tragedies, and readers clip and send me the items. I wish to heaven that such news items were the only authority for my condemnation of the atrocity. But, alas, despite my plea some bereaved parents write me heart-rending letters about it and I don't know what . to say in reply. I do know what I'd like to say to the ever ready operators who inflict the atrocity on children who come under thpir carp. ! Another correspondent, coldly but courteously asked for my authority for the statement that malignancy might warrant or justify tonsillectomy rather than the minor operation known as tonsillotomy. But this physician did not send with his request a stamped, self -addressed enve lope.
