Lodge Men Honored At Auxiliary Dinner; Campaign Announced The auxiliary to Crater Lake aerie, Fraternal Order of Eagles, held a covered dish dinner at Eagles hall Thursday evening honoring members of the mens' lodge. Theme of the evening was "sport shirt night," and the wom en acted as judges. Winners in the judging were Floyd Leith for the best looking shirt, Jack Meacham for the most colorful, and Al Ford for wearing a unique shirt. During the meeting plans were made for the cross country mem- hr?hio camDaien. The "kick- off" will be next Thursday at 8 p.m. with a ball game opening the drive. Eagle Heights Women Meet in Brownsboro Eagle Point Members of Eagle Heights Social club met July 10 for a picnic at the home of Mrs. Joe D. Arnes, Browns boro. Adults at the picnic number ed 12 and there were 8 children present. The next meeting of the group will be the first Thurs day in August at the home of Mrs. Harry Hanscom, Eagle Point. Take Vacation Mrs. Hugh Coleman and daughter, Carol, 1806 East Main street, returned Tuesday from a vacation at Pebble Beach, Calif. Details ltjff lAfa At Our Miss Centers Wed To Robert Payne In Church Service Gold Hill Miss Barbara Jo- Ann Centers, daughter of Mr and Mrs. Roy Centers, Fourth avenue, became the bride of Pfc. Robert Dallas Payne, Unit ed States Army, in a candle light ceremony held at 8 o'clock Saturday night, July 12, in the parlors of the First Christian church in Grants Pass." The bridegroom is the son of D. W. Payne, Southgate, Calif., and Mrs. Dorothy Page, Vallecito, Calif. Baskets of gladiolus in mixed colors and white candles were used as decorations for the cere mony. The traditional wedding marches were played by Mrs John Cogswell of Gold Hill. The service was read by the Rev. William C. Piper. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a navy blue suit with white accessories, and a corsage of white carnations. Miss Lola Jo Taylor, Gold Hill, served as maid of honor, wear ing a gray suit with white acces sories and a corsage of white gardenias. William L. Centers, Medford, brother of the bride, acted as best man. The bride's mother wore navy blue suit with white acces sories, and her corsage was of white gardenias. The ceremony was attended by about 18 friends and relatives of the young couple. Following the ceremony, a re ception for 25 guests was held at the Gold Hill home of Mr. and Mrs. John Cogswell. The re freshment table was centered with a wedding cake flanked with white candles and arrange' ments of ester reed daisies. Assisting Mrs. Cogswell and the bride's mother with the serving were the bride's two sisters, Mrs. Kenneth Hobson, Grants Pass, and Mrs. Richard Straus, Medford, and her sister- in-law, Mrs. William Centers, Medford. The new Mr. and Mrs. Payne left for a short wedding trip to the coast. They will stay in Grants Pass during the remain der of the bridegroom's fur lough. After he returns to his station at The Presidio in San Francisco, Mrs. Payne will stay with her parents in Gold Hill until her husband completes his term of service in the Army. The bride was graduated from Crater High school this past year. Mr. Payne was graduated from Grants .Pass iign scnooi in the class of 1948, and made his home in Grants Pass before en tering the service.. PRIZE CONTEST NEVER BEFORE! Theater Guild Considers New York The Theater Guild is eyeing three propositions in volving British productions for its schedule next fall. One is "The Love of Four Col onels," a London success by and with Peter Ustinov. A second is Hepburn in Shaw's "The Million airess," scheduled for London late this month. The third con cerns John Gielgud and his ap- s Cashmere Plays by Shakespeare pearance here in two Shakes- peare plays, "Measure for Mea sure" and "Much Ado About Nothing." 4 To Meet Medford Sojourners' club will meet Thursday, July 24, at the Medford hotel. Cardigan Methodist Church Group Holds Dessert Meeting; New Officers Preside Circle 8 of First Methodist church held their last meeting at the home of Mrs. Harold White, South Pacific highway. A dessert luncheon preceded the business meeting which was conducted by Mrs. Peter Zim merman, newly elected chair man. Other officers for the com ing year are Mrs. Ben Schmidt, vice-chairman; Mrs. Walter Gar ner, secretary; Mrs. George Goodman, treasurer; Mrs. Wal ter Merrill, Mrs. Paul Bray and Mrs. Harry Chipman, member ship and telephone committee; Miss Bessie Wilke, sunshine committee; and Mrs. Ross Ad ams, publicity. New members are Mrs. John Pilkington and Mrs. Earl Mc Allister. Visitors at the meeting were Mrs. Hardwick Harshman, Mrs. Jack Draper, Albany; and Mrs. Dale Newton. Mrs. Zimmerman announced that the annual picnic of the WSCS will be held at the home of Mrs. Herbert Sampert, Ren ault avenue, Tuesday, July 22. An event of July 23 will be a reception in the church parlor honoring the Rev. and Mrs. Hardwick Harshman. The group also decided to send a CARE package overseas in memory of Mrs. Jouett Bray, a former member of circle 8, who passed away recently. The members will dispense with the August meeting, and the next meeting will be Sep tember 16 at the home of Mrs. Ross Adams, 2308 Hillcrest road. Travelers Home Mr. and Mrs. Earl York and Mrs. E. G. Trowbridge returned last week from a motor trip north. The travelers made stops in Portland and Seattle, and were as far north as Victoria, B. Mrs. Davis will speak at the YMCA at 8 p.m. under the sponsorship of Medford Living Foods Group. Mrs. Davis has studied at Pur due university, the University of California, Columbia and the , University of California at Los I Angeles. She began her career i at a dietitian at Bellevue hos- i pital in New York City, served j as a nutritionist in health clincs and for some time was super visor of health education in the public schools of Yonkers, N.
