F0T7H MTOrORD (OftEGOIf) Medford Delegation At VFW Convention; Meeting Announced Members of Veterans of For eign Wars and auxiliary who attended the recent convention at Astoria, Ore. were Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Beneka, Mrs. Rich ard Schulz, Mrs. E. Walter, Mrs. Amy Randle, Ed Smith, and Mrs. O. O. De Berry. Mrs. Randle was reappointed department hospital chairman, and Mrs. Beneka was appointed department of Oregon cottage fund chairman. At the meeting of the Military Order of Cooties and Lady Bugs on July 12, M. A. Beneka was reelected grand quartermaster of Oregon. Harold Sutherland is the new grand council member MOC, and Ted Hopkins was ap pointed grand chief of staff. The next MOLB meeting will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 22. at the VFW hall, 42 North Front street. Convention reports will be given at this time. Leslie-Rasmussen Rites Held in Methodist Church Miss Dolly June Rasmussen in an evening ceremony July 5 chester at the Assembly of God The bride's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Vernon V. Rasmussen, 308 Garfield street, Medford, and the bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Walter Sinclair, California. The ceremony was read in a setting of pink and yellow dais ies and snapdragons, tapers, candelabra, and potted fern. The bride wore a gown of white satin and lace and carried a white orchid with stephanotis. Miss Roberta Clutter, maid of honor, was dressed in yellow taf feta and net and her flowers were green daisies. Bridesmaids were Miss Jean Rasmussen, cou sin of the bride; Miss Evelyn Smith, and Miss Sharon Mitchell They wore gowns of green taf feta and carried yellow daisy nosegays. The bride's father gave her in marriage, and best man was Phil Klingsheim, Hillsboro, Ore. Ush ers included Bob Philips, Charles Mitchell, -and the Rev. J. M. Har- rel Jr., Wichita, Kansas, uncle of the bride. Five year old Shar on Rasmussen, cousin of the bride from Los Angeles was flower girl for the ceremony. Out of town guests at tending were Mr. and Mrs. Nor man Severson, Los Angeles; Mrs. Dagni Rasmussen, great aunt of the bride from Kalispel, Mont.; The Rev. and Mrs.-J. M. Harrell Jr., Wichita, Kans., and Bob Ras mussen, brother of the bride, stationed at Hamilton Air base, Calif. The newlyweds are now mak ing their home at Ashland. The bride, employed by J. C. Penney company, is a graduate of Med ford High school. An employee of Magnolia Saw Mill, the bride groom will graduate from South ern Oregon college this year. He formerly attended Ashland High school. Announces Picnic . Medford Toastmistress club will meet at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Thatcher, 210 Beatty street, for a picnic at 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 21. Each member is asked to bring her own service to the picnic. The program will include a talk by Mrs. George Mclntyre, an international director of Toastmistress. who will report on the annual convention which she attended in Chicago. Members of the group volunteered for work assignments to aid in raising funds for the building. "Thirty-six members attended the meeting, which, was con ducted by Mrs. Florence Lance, president. Mrs. Elizabeth Flannery was appointed treasurer pro-tem, to serve until Mrs. Patricia Beebe, elected treasurer, assumes the responsibility in the fall. Following the outdoor meal. Mrs. Flannery provided accord ion music and several of the club women square danced. Committee chairmen will meet August 6 at the home of Miss Dana Platz, program coordin ator, 1512 Wilson place, to com plete plans for the program for the new club year. Special em phasis will be placed on the observance of Business Women's Week from .September 28 to Oc tober 4. Shipmates Class Holds Dinner at Burk Home Shipmates class of First Meth odist church held the monthly potluck dinner in the yard of the new F. F. Burk home on Ridgway street, Friday, July 13. Over seventy members attend ed the dinner, and guests pres ent were the new pastor, the Rev. Hardwick Harshman, and Mrs. Harshman. Taking charge of the business meeting were Mr. and Mrs. Ben Schmidt. Mrs. Bernice Kunz man headed the entertainment committee. Shipmates were invited to the George Howard home on Tenth street, for the August meeting. Miss Amelia Kauffman (Shangle studio) Announce Trothal Of Medford Couple Mr. and Mrs. Mearl S. Kauf man, 801 Biddle road, announce the engagement of their daugh ter Miss Amelia Kaufman, to Bob Semon, whose parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Semon, live on Ross lane. Barnes, 1217 Maple Park drive (Shangle Studio) Three Medford Women Attend Annual Meeting Of Gold Star Mothers Mrs. James Cech, Mrs. Grace Roberts, and Mrs. Oscar Ander son attended the 15th national convention of American Gold Star Mothers Inc., at Long Beach, Calif., last month. They are members of the Medford club. Mrs. Cech is a member of Gold Star Mothers National Chorus, and is the only Oregon mother who belongs to this group. About 4,000 mothers and fath ers attended the convention in cluding 2 star and 3-star parents. One 4-star couple, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bergstrom, Utah, who lost four 'sons within 6 months, were introduced. Mrs. Cech said, "We mothers felt very "humble as these two stood with heads and chins high when they were introduced." The Gold Star Mothers and Fathers went on record as pledg ing themselves to "Be more tol erant with those less fortunate, to help the veteran and his fam ily with the lasting hope that these young men and women have reared an edifice that time cannot tear down, and to carry on the torch they let fall in death." Club Executive Board Holds First Meeting Wednesday Afternoon Members of the executive board of Medford Garden club held their first meeting since election at the home of the new president, Mrs. E. M. Wallin, 2109 East Main street, Wednes day afternoon. Officers were told of their duties for the coming year, plans were discussed, and a pro gram outlined. Mrs. R. T. Njch ol, who is state program chair man, gave a talk on the state board meeting which she at tended. She explained how the various garden clubs were start ed. They first began to form in Philadelphia, with small groups getting together and discussing their various flowers and plants, but had no regular meetings, she said. Regular meetings of the club have been adjourned for July and August, and the next one will be. in September. by the love we bore them, have banded ourselves together for the purpose of carrying on the noble principles for which they died." Miss Stanhope Wed To Cloyce Barnes In Home Ceremony A home ceremony July 12 wedded Johnnie Bea Stanhope, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clif ford D. Stanhope, San Lorenzo, Calif., to Staff Sgt. Cloyce F. Barnes, U. S. Air Force. xThe wedding took place at the home of the bridegroom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Barnes, 1217 Maple Park drive, Medford. The Rev. Wolford A. Dawes, of First Baptist church, officiated at the evening cere mony, in a setting of white glad iolus and lilies, fern and ivy. The bride wore an ankle length gown of white lace with a net skirt and a finger-tip veil. Her flowers were white and pink carnations in a nosegay which she carried. Miss Reola Barnes, sister of the bridegroom, was maid-of honor. She wore an ankle-length dress of pink and net lace car ried a nosegay of pink and white carnations. The bride's mother wore an orchid colored dress and white carnation. The mother of the bridegroom chose a dress of aqua and similar flowers. Mr. Stanhope gave his daugh ter in marriage, and Robert S. Bohl acted as best man. A reception followed the wed ding at the Barnes home. Abcut 40 guests attended. The couple then traveled to San Francisco for a wedding trip. The bride attended school at Fallaon, Nev., and the bride groom went to Medford High school for two years and Eagle Point High school where he graduated. He is stationed at San Francisco, and has been in the Air Force since April, 1949. 4 Annual Breakfast Planned by Court Members and guests of Roxy Ann Court 20, Order of Ama ranth, will hold the annual breakfast at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Route 2. Women's Fellowship of the church will meet at the Nieder meyer home July 22. Dessert at 1 p.m. will be followed by a busi ness session and program. Mrs. Mary Norvell will lead devotions, and Mesdames Han sen and Strahan are to take charge of the meeting. Golden Link Bible class will meet at the Niedermeyers Thurs day, July 24, at 6:45 p.m. for a covered dish dinner. Ice cream and cake will be furnished by the hosts. Mesdames Hansen, Strahan, Jacoby and Meade make up the committee.
