Eisenhower Said Wall Street Tool By Sen. Kefaiiver Syracuse, N. Y. OI.R) Sen. Estes Kefauver charged Monday that Dwight D. Eisenhower is the "unwitting tool of the few greedy men who have long bought to control this country's economy." The lanky Tennesseean, a lead ing conteder for the Demo cratic presidential nomination, said "Wall Street bankers" put Eisenhower across as the Repub lican candidate. Their "reactionary" influence, he said in a prepared campaign speech, will drag the general down to defeat whether he is a liberal himself or not. "No man, no matter how inde pendent, no matter how liberal in his thinking, could complete ly shut out the spectre of the die-hard Republicans who are creeping along behind him," he said. "General Eisenhower is no exception.' Kefauver cited Republicans supporters of Sen. Robert A. Taft (R-Ohio) as the source of his charges that Wall Street bankers were behind Eisenhow ers Republican Convention vic tory last week. Ridgway Sees New France NATO Paris (U.R) France showed Gen. Estes Kefauver of Tennes see, the coon-skin candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination; won national fame for his spectacular investigation of organized crime in the United States. This investigation made Ke fauver a familiar and popular star" on television sets all over the country. It also won him the permanent hatred of the Demo cratic political "bosses" who thought he hurt the party in .the 1950 election. Wins Primaries Undaunted by this opposition, Kefauver was the first Demo crat to announce as a candidate for his party's nomination. In four months he won 14 of the 16 primaries he entered. Kefauver is no stranger to party boss opposition. He won his senate seat in 1948 against the bitter opposition of "Boss" E. H. Crump's long-entrenched Thirteen thousand troops. 219lpolitical machine in Tennessee. The rangy, easy-going Ten nesseean spent 10 years in the House, where he won a reputa tion as an outstanding congress man, before making his bid for the Senate. In the Senate, he served on the armed services and judiciary committees. Four Youngsters Kefauver, a graduate of the Yale law school and the father of four bright-eyed youngsters, will be 49 on July 26. He has said that he expects to win the Democratic nomina tion on the sixth ballot. He goes to Chicago with 257 known con vention votes, more than any other candidate. In recent' weeks, this is how he has expressed his views on political issues: Corruption in government he has promised "to wage a re lentless war against crime, cor ruption and . all shady political practices. The fight will, be a hard one and not won by a single blow." He also proposed setting up special commission to ferret out wrong-doers and report di rectly to congress. It was "im proper" for President Truman to give the corruption clean-up job to the attorney general's office. Fair Employment Practices Commission "I believe in fair employment practices, but I ami Two County Bridges Under Construction Two county bridges are under construction this week, accord ing to County Engineer Paul Rynning. Work has started on a bridge over the middle fork of the Rogue river, between Butte Falls and Prospect, and a bridge is under way over Antelope creek on the Meridian road. Rynning also reported that traffic started over the recently completed bridge near the Butte Falls hatchery last week. Also, heavy oiling on county roads has now begun. not convinced that a national compulsory commission is the Dest approach. I believe in ap proaching the problem through education and voluntary means." Foreign Policy "My own criticism of our foreign policy to date has been tbat it was in many cases too negative. We have become a leader of thel world not through choice but through history. It is time for us to lead." Korea "It is certainly not our way of doing things to have an indefinite stalemate in Ko rea." He said the United Nations should give the Communists a I deadline to reach a truce agree ment, and if agreement is not reached "do whatever is needed" to finish the war, including "aerial pursuit across the Yalu river." Due to this giult-by- association technique and smear technique, McCARTHYISM is forcing a lot of our people into conformity of thinking. - Truman Signs Bill For Base Building Washington (U.R) President Truman Monday signed into law a bill authorizing the armed forces to expend or build . $2,- 398,282,800 worth of strategic I bases at home and abroad. Some of those overseas will be "saturation" air bases from whidh a quick blitz could be launched against a European ag gressor. Funds to finance the program will not be available until the President signs an appropriation measure carrying only $2,288,- 784,840. The armed forces will either have to ask for more funds next year or eliminate some of the building planned under the authorization meas ure. The law permits the Army, Navy and Air Force to carry on construction work at about 250 bases abroad and in this country. Some of the overseas work will be secret building at bases for U.
