Adlai Stevenson oi Illi New Bishop Named By Methodist Area Dr. A. Raymond Grant, min ister of the First, Methodist church of Sacramento, Calif., for the past 16 years, has been named bishop of the Portland area of the Methodist church, according to announcement from the Western Jurisdictional con ference of the denomination. He succeeds Bishop Gerald Kennedy who goes to the South ern California - area, replacing Bishop James Baker who is re tiring. Bishop Grant was ordained" to the Methodist ministry in 1926. He received a bachelor degree and honorary doctor , of divinity degree from Cornell university and bachelor of sacred theology from Boston university. The new bishop is a member of the general board of educa tion of the church, was presi dent of Lions International in 1940 and served as delegate to the World Council of churches in 1948 and the Oxford Conference of Methodism in 1951. The jurisdictional session was held at Santa Barbara, Calif., last week. Shady Cove Grange Shadv Cove Granee met July 9 with Master Claude Close pre siding. The meeting was held in the Shady Cove school gymnas ium. Visitors numbering 35 were present from Butte Falls, Upper Rogue, Roxy Ann, Live uaK, Sams Valley, Gold Hill, Bell view and Eagle Point Granges. Honored guests were Eda Tor rance, master of Upper Rogue Granee: Rosco Roberts, county deputy and past Master Herb Carlton of Upper Rogue. Ralph James, Sams Valley Grange, master, acted as steward in the absence of our regular steward. H.E.C. Chairman Anna Kee was reported ill. Shady Cove Grange is to pre sent the lecture program at Cen tral Point Friday, July 18. Chairman, Mrs. Henry, also Pomona H;E.C. Chairman Lillian Force of Eagle Point Grange. Other guests were Mrs. Jimmy Hutchinson, Mrs. Cummings, Mrs. Elva Gar rett and Mrs. Selda Netherland. Lucille Barbar announced the program at the next Grange meeting, Thursday, July 17, will be put on by the literary com mittee and there will be a dis play table of articles of "yest erday" and "today." Members are requested to bring any ar ticles they have to make this display interesting.
