Newlywed Couple i To Make Home Here; Rites in Portland A bride of June 2, was Miss Ruth E. Sluman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Burton Slu man, Homesdale, Perm., who married Edmund E. Hass, Med ford, at the First Methodist church, Portland. The bride groom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin H. Hass, live at Glen dale, Clif. Dr. Louis H. Kaub officiated at the 2 o'clock ceremony. . The bride's gown was fash ioned with white imported chan tilly lace 'bodice and nylon tulle skirt She wore a cap of match ing lace which held a fingertip veil of silk illusion. Her cascade bouquet was of Joanna Hill roses, stephanotis, bouvardia and white gladioli. Mr. Sluman gave his daughter in marriage. The bride's sister Mrs. Larry Johnson, Seattle Wash., was matron of honor, and Melvin H. Hass Jr., brother of the groom from Billings, Mrf- acted as best man. Ushert were Caldon R. Nor man and Walter Davis, both of Portland. Music was provided by Mrs James Jenkins, accompanied by Miss Jean Mandel. Seventy-five guests attended the ceremony and the reception which followed. Refreshments were served by eight friends of the bride. A primary teacher in Port land, the bride was graduated from high school in Honesdale, Penn., and Bloomsburg . State Teachers college, Penn. The bridegroom is manager of the Medford branch of the Pacific Northwest Investment Security firm. He attended Glendale high school in California and Cali fornia State Polytechnic college. The couDle will live at 810V5 East Jackson street after a hon eymoon to the Oregon coast. Central Point Club Holds Dinner Meeting Central Point Central Point Navy Mothers' club members were entertained in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Quackenbush, Foothills road, June 25. A chick en dinner was served, with sew ing and a program following. Guests present were Mrs. Orie Moore and daughter, Marianne, Mrs. Jim Cummins, Mrs. Lottie Quackenbush, Mrs. Dora Lynch and the host and hostess. During the summer the club will meet only on the fourth Wednesday of the month for a combined business and social gathering. 'if', VST -f:- " Mrs. Edmund E. Hass is the former Ruth E. Sluman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Burton Sluman, Honesdale, Penn. The Hass Sluman rites took place June 29 in First Methodist church, Port land, and the couple will live in Medford at 8IOV2 East Jackson street. Mr. Hass is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Melrin H. Hass, Glendale, Calif. (Krohn studio. Portland). Women's Fellowship' Holds First Meeting Of New Church Year Christian Women's Fellowship of First Christian church met July 2 to begin the year's work under the leadership of Mrs. Ronald Gandee, new president. Mrs. Walter Weber reported on the past year's achievements, and Mrs. . Wayne Troxell sub mitted the budget for the. com ing year at the business meeting. Patriotism was the theme of the lubcheon served by' Circle 5 with Mrs. Estelle Hopkins act ing as chairman, and Mrs. Frank Heller presiding, over 'the pro gram. Red, white and blue flow ers and small flags were the decorations, and all present stood to sing the National Anthem and pledged allegiance to the Chris tian and American flags! Miss Katherine Gott sang "America The Beautiful" for the group!. Mrs. Vern Bailey, district sec retary of the Christian Women's fellowship, presented corsages to 'Mrs. Gandee and the retiring president, Mrs. Claud Cooper. Giving a report on Women's Day at the state convention at Turn er, Ore., was Mrs. Ralph Cook. Guests at the luncheon were in troduced by Mrs. J. N. Gregory The missionary program in the form of an imaginary trip to the Christian Missionary society at Indianapolis, Ind., was pre sented by Circle 1 under the leadership of Mrs. Grover Cor um. The buildings and different places of work of the society were described by Mrs. Gordon Green, Mrs. E. H. Sledd, and Mrs. Wayne Smith. Miss Kath erine Anglemyer sang, accom panied by Mrs. Green. Devotions by Mrs. J. L. Mrs. Campbell, the new presi dent, will take charge of the meeting with the recently elect ed officers assisting her, includ ing Mrs. Frank English, Mrs. Norman Burke, Mrs. Tom Flynn, and Mrs. Dwight Johnson. A cooperative effort between the food industry and the, Atomic Energy Commission has been set up in Chicago to conduct experi ments in food sterilization. Tudor Guild Makes Plans For Annual Bard's Heyday Tudor guild has announced the third annual Bard's Heyday for Sunday, July 20, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Berthold Barnum, South Pacific highway. The Heyday was first held by the guild to promote interest in the annual Oregon Shakespearean festival at Ashland, and to raise funds for aiding actors of the festival com pany. The event also provides an opportunity for residents of the valley to meet the members of the company, who always at tend the heyday in a group. Ohio Couple Here To Visit Garners Mr. and Mrs. Collin Hart of Akron, O., are guests in Med ford of Mr. and Mrs. Walter G. Garner, Barnett road. The Harts are on a tour of the. northwest, and came to Medford after a trip through Alaska. The Garners and Harts made a trip to Crater Lake National park Wednesday, and spent the July Fourth holiday by motoring to the coast in order that the vis itors might see the redwood for ests and Oregon beaches. Mrs. Garner and Mrs. . Hart are sisters. Sojourners Club Sets Installation Medford Sojourner's club will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 10 at the Medford hotel. Members who are to take of fice for the next six months will be installed. Luncheon will be served followed by card games. All newcomers to Medford within the last two years are in vited to attend. Breakspear, Newbury in Berk shire, to Staff Sgt. John Deuel, formerly of Medford. The wed ding took place May 14 at St Nicholas church in Newbury. . Sergeant Deuel is a son ol Mrs. William Skyrman, Central Point, and the late Luther Deuel of Medford. He is serving in England with the United States Air Force. Actor Bill Ball To Dance, Direct In Festival Plays Ashland The performance by a dancing drama student in the 1952 festival may well prove to be one of the entertainment highlights of the event which is to open in Ashland's Eliza bethan like theater on August 1. Bill Ball, a young drama stu dent from Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh, captivated festival audiences last year with his dancing performance on the fes tival ; stage railing in "Twelfth Night." This year, he again has an op portunity to dance. He has been cast as Ariel in "The Tempest." But festival directors, wishing to fully utilize the actor's terp sichorean ability, has made him dance director for two of the plays and for a group, which will do. pre-shbw performances as a part of the "Tudor Fair." This fair, which originally was called the "Mop Fair," is to be presented again this year under the direction of the festival aux iliary group, the Tudor Guild. The fiur will add color to the unique festival with souvenir and refreshment booths inside the walls of the ampitheatre in which the festival is presented. The pre-show dancers will number eight and will entertain festival audiences with pre-cur-tain performances. Also lending a background to the festival will be madrigal singers and instrumentalists, per forming under the direction of Hans Lampl, a University of Southern California music pro fessor, who is a student of Eliz abethan music. The festival will open in Ash land August 1 and run through August 30. The four plays, "The Tempest," "Henry V," "Much Ado About Nothing." and "Jul ius Caesar" will be presented in rotation.
