Delegate Tabulation Gives Taft 530 to General's 425 Chicago (U.R) Here is how the Republican presidential can didates stand in convention votes now that the national com mittee has ruled on all contests. The contests are still subject to further review next week by the convention's credentials committee and the convention itself. This United Press tabulation is based on formal pledges and known first-ballot preferences: Sen. Robert A. Taft 530 Gen. Dwight Eisenhower ..425 Gov. Earl Warren 76 Harold E. Stassen 25 Got. Albert Wedemeyer .. 1 Uncommitted or Unknown 120 Total 1.206 Needed to Nominate ...604 The Taft total includes net gain of 45 resulting from pre liminary decisions of the na tional committee on contested delegations. These contests are subject to further appeal. The national committee awarded 17 votes from Texas, 'beyond those he already was assured of from Texas; and 16 from Georgia, five from Mississippi, four frcm Louisiana, and three from Puerto Rico. The Eisenhower total includes a net gain of 16 as the result of national committee decisions on contests, still subject to appeal. The committee gave Eisenhower 12 more delegates from Texas than he previously had been as sured of, and two from Louisi ana, one from Kansas and one from Missouri. Loan Firm's Assets Increase $1,000,000 Assets of the Jackson County Federal Savings and Loan asso ciation increased more than $1,000,000 during the past year, it was announced Saturday by W. J. Warner, president, and John H. Pletsch, secretary. They said the board of direct ors is pleased with the trend in javings and mortgage loans. Warner said "From all indica tions, the savings trend will be ap, due to the increase in popu lation and the steady employ ment throughout the Rogue River valley. The total savings in the association during the past year have increased more than $862,000, and it now has savings accounts totaling S6, 002,899.58. The public would be interested to know that the 3 per cent dividend for the six months ending June 30, 1952, resulted in savings to county in vestors of $82,611.97." Commenting on governmental building restrictions, Pletsch said he has no doubt that new construction has been curtailed by them. However, he said, the association has closed more than $1,700,000 in mortgage loans in the past year. Leonard Goosey School Director At Rogue River Rogue River Leonard Goosey was sworn in as director of school district 35 at the regu- lar meeting Thursday evening. Two applications for bus drivers were received and Charle: Smiley was offered a twelve' month contract, as secretary to Superintendent Warren Center. Smiley requested he be al.Ynved to work twelve months at the same salary paid for him shorter term. The Grants Pass Fuel and Oil company was awarded the con tract to furnish fuel oil for the coming year. The only bid re ceived on installing an oil fur nace to heat the old grade school building was almost a thousand dollars over the amount allowed by the rural board. Specifics tions called for the furnace to be installed in the new building and the heat piped to the old building. Lights Discussed Lighting of the athletic field which is subject to the election of July 18, was discussed. The new stage curtain for the high school auditorium was hung, Thursday. A request for use of the audi torium for the funeral services of Ward and Minnie Wills, was granted by the board. Mr. and Mrs. Wills died following an automobile accident near New- berry, Mich., last week. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 7, at 2 p.m. Topnofch Owners Buy Franklin's Travis A. Mitchell and Harry F. Stratman, former owners of the Topnotch cafe, bought Franklin's cafe, 27 South Cen tral, last week. They will oper ate the cafe under the name Franklin's for at least the rest of the year, Mitchell said. Mitchell and Stratman oper ated the Topnotch, across the street from their new establish ment, " from 1948 when they came from Arizona to last Janu ary. They were partners in an Arizona restaurait for nine years-. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Franklin have owned and operated Franklin's cafe for 27 years. It is in the Craterlan theater build ing and was opened the same time as the theater. Funeral Arranged For Crash Victims Funeral services for Ward Wills, 72, and his wife, Minnie, 68, will be held at Rogue River high school at 2 p.m. Monday, July 7. The couple, who were resi dents "of Rogue River, were kill ed in an automobile accident June 29 near Newberry, Mich The bodies will be interred at Woodville cemetery. L. B. Hall funeral home is in charge of arrangements. Stolen Car Discovered Overturned, Destroyed A car owned by Forrest "Frank" Crews, route 3, box 243A, was stolen Friday night and completely demolished, ac cording to the city police. The car was reported stolen from in front of Medford Mo tors company, Sixth and Ivy streets, at 11:30 p.m. The state police later found the car at Minear road and Old Stage road, "turned over and completely demolished." Police said the suspects are still at large.
