More Prizes Needed For Soap Box Derby '- The committee in charge of obtaining prizes for the soap box derby July 13 has issued a call for awards either merchan dise orders or cash. British Radio Bans Home-Ground Talent In Nude on TV Show London (U.B- The Brit ish Broadcasting Corporation has decided that while it will televise nude French show girls late at night, the home grown variety must hide their charms when they appear on an early evening show. It ordered 10 nude show girls in an English burlesque show called "Excitement" at the London Casino to don panties and brassieres for a television performance next month. "No doubt children will be watching," a BBC spokesman explained. However, BBC will televise nude French showgirls in a 'Tollies program from Paris next week without any such restrictions. It will be on the air at a late hour and all chil dren should be in bed by then, the spokesman explained. Bridges Cites Records Offering to submit the matter to a panel named by the Federal Conciliation Service, Bridges said, "We have extensive records to show who in the past has done the work." Harry Lundeberg, secretary of the AFL Sailors Union of Pacif ic, said Friday there was no dis pute between his union and the shipowners over the "scope of work" but that the owners were trying to "promote a jurisdict ional strike." The sailors are striking for a five cent pay boost and over time pay for Saturday work at sea, Lundeberg contended. "Hiding Behind Contract" The Pacific Maritime associa tion's contract with the I.L.W.U. and its expired contract with the S.U.P. allowed for an overlap ping of work between the two unions in the gear stowing. Lun deberg was "hiding behind the language of a contract which the employers admit they permitted by mistake," Bridges said. After a fruitless negotiation session with the shipowners and a federal conciliator, Lundeberg ordered his union to tighten its strike by making no exceptions to its "military only," .policy. The Grange Shady Cove Grange Shady Cove Grange met June 25 for the quarterly potluck sup per. Those having birthdays dur ing the quarter were honored. At the next meeting, Wednes day, July 9, the Butte Falls Grange will present the Lecture hour program. Ladies of the Grange are to take sandwiches or cookies. The next HEC meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Pat Close on Big Butte Creek road, Tues day, Judy 1, at 1:30 for dessert luncheon. Co-hostess will be Mrs. Lula B. Clark. Roll, call will be answered with patriotic sayings. Mrs. John Holtz will speak on "Indian Tribes in Oregon." Phoenix Grange Phoenix Grange met June 24 with Master Claude Hutton pre siding. The charter was draped in memory of Mildred Boner. Lecturer Jake Arnold intro duced Mrs. Lucille Beach, color stylist from Sherwin and Wil liams. Mrs. Beach illustrated her talk with a style guide book and colored charts. At the next meet ing, July 8, the lecturer will pre sent a mystery program. Every one is urged to attend. Mr. and Mrs. Hockersmith re ported on. the highlights of the state grange convention. Master presented the 1952 pennant to the Secretary Edith Poe for hav ing all dues collected for the year. Members are reminded that the annual picnic will be held July 13 at the home of Master Claude Hutton. 73-Year-Old Portlander Indicted for Murder Portland (U.R) L o g a n El more Fields, 73-year-old pension er, Saturday was under indict ment for second degre murder in connection with the fatal stab bing of Paul Sedric Buchanan, 38, on May 26. , Fields was indicted Friday by a Multnomah county grand jury. Eisenhower, front, is followed by his press party on a tour of Hoover Dam, world's highest dam, during a "whistle stop" tour of Southern Nevada and a brief meeting with 10 of Nevada's 12 Republican national convention delegates at Las Vegas. Although he apparently failed to change the convictions of the delegates, an Eisenhower spokes man said the general may have picked up a few votes during his handshaking tour. No other restaurant would want to make this statement." i With this warning, the menu proceeds to present everything a menu could ask, from breakfast Cooks and Stewards Returning to Work Seattle, Wash (U.R) Cooks and stewards began registering here Saturday for jobs on west coast ships under an impartial hiring procedure set up as a re sult of a National Labor Rela tions board order. George W. Martin, Seattle at torney, was appointed port ref eree to rule on any disputes that might arise. Martin's appoint ment was made late Friday by the ninth circuit court of ap peals in San Francisco. The Pacific Maritime associa tion operates the hiring hall. The area director of the association, D. W. Cornell, said some. 40 cooks and stewards registered during the first two hours the office was open. Registration was to resume Monday. The NLRB ruling held that the Marine Cooks and Stewards' union (Ind.) had lost it collective-bargaining rights in a case originating in Seattle. It was brought by more than 100 for mer members of the union who had been deprived of employment. California Worker Shoots Ranchman Courtland, Calif. (U.R) A 47-year-old Negro late Saturday shot and killed a fellow ranch worker whom he believed was poisoning him, Sheriff's Captain Ray Lagomarsino said. Wilmer David Marionaux was booked in Sacramento county jail on charges of murder. He admitted he emptied a six-shot .32 caliber Colt pistol into the body of William B. Hick's, 62, also a Negro, at point-blank range. "Anyone who would poison a man's food deserves to die," Marionaux told Lagmarsino. Marionaux claimed Hicks had been poisoning his food at the Runyan and Dorsey fruit ranch for the past three months. Lagmarsino said the sheriff's office had found no evidence of the alleged poisoning. . A ranch spokesman told ar riving sheriff's officer to "be careful" because Marionaux was "peculiar," Lagmarsino said. Lagmarsino said Marionaux summoned police through anoth er ranch worker and surrendered quietly. Margie Strader Selected Queen of Talent Jamboree Talent Miss Mareie Strader was crowned queen Saturday of the Talent Jamboree and reigned over the day-long festivities which attracted citizens from all over the Rogue river valley. Miss Strader received her crown from 1950 Queen Pauline Henry Vernon. Princesses were Miss Joyce Chapman and Miss Doreen Burnette. A parade which was held at 7 o'clock in the evening included 12 floats and cars, and five mar ching units. The Talent Garden club won first prize in the float division. Second prize went to the Talent Community club, while Ashland's Whisker club (sponsored" by Ashland Junior Chamber of Commerce) placed third. Eve Prentice's Accordion band took first place among the marching units, Bliss Heine's Juniors were second and Sever son's Kandy Kids, third. Oregon Ocf Age Pension Ranks Sixth in Nation Portland (U.R) Oregon ranks sixth in the nation in old age pension payments, Miss Loa Howard, tate public welfare commission administrator, re ported Saturday. Miss Howard said payments in Oregon last month averaged $60.01. This, Miss Howard said, was the sixth highest in the country. It was the first time Oregon has achieved this high rank.
