EIGHT MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUKK Friday, Juno 27. 1952 Society and Clubs Medf ord Lions, Auxiliary Hold Installation Dinner Archie E. Fries Jr., was installed president of Medford Lions club and Mrs. Kenneth Campbell wa3 invested with the office of president of the auxiliary at a joint installation service Wednesday night at the Ashland Elks club. The service followed a dinner at tended by 130 Lions and their wives. Elect Gun- District Governor nar Wohgen, Rogue River, was the Installing officer for the men giving the oath of office to Mr. Fries -and his cabinet consisting of Penn Chitwood, first vice-president; Ron Gan dee, second vice-president; Ice land Knox, secretary; Anthony Capello, Lion Tamer; Hilary Meyerle, tailtwister; Kenneth Campbell, Scott Ellis, Keith Bates, and M. J. Maulsby, di rectors; and Elwood Hedberg, coordinator. Mrs. Lee Mellish, past pres ident, installed the auxiliary of ficers. Serving with Mrs. Camp bell are to be Mrs. Frank Eng lish, vice-president; Mrs. Nor man Burke, secretary; Mrs. Tom Flynn, treasurer; and M r s. Dwight Johnson, lion tamer.. Lion Elliot Becken was toast master of the vening. Miss Col leen Kiegs, a student at South ern Oregon college, entertained , with vocal solos, accompanied by Mrs. Cay Hufman of Ash land. . Mrs. James Campbell, retiring auxiliary president, was present ed with a silver tray by mem bers of ' her club. Herb Seitz, who served as editor of the Lions club weekly bulletin for the past two years, was present ed with a special award for his ervices. Mr. McKeen, ' retiring president, was given a special award as a "100 per cent Presi dent." The Grants Pass club was represented by a group of 27 persons headed by Past Presi dent Chet Thompkins. The Cra Delegates Attend State Convention; Two Given Offices Medford delegates attended the 49th annual convention -of the Oregon Association of Letter Carriers at Corvallis, June 21 and 22. Walter Wilson and Paul Kur ovsky represented local branch 1433, and Mrs. Walter Wilson, Mrs. Larry Rose, and Mrs. Paul Kurovsky were representatives of the local women's auxiliary 367. A visitor to the convention was Mrs. Ivan Lantz, president of the local women's auxiliary. Re-elected to the executive board of the Oregon State -association was Walter Wilson. Mrs. Larry Rose was elected to the post of organizer of the auxil iary. " Special guests included Mrs. Lola D. Carson, national presi dent from Waco, Texas, and Fred O. Andrews, national exe cutive board member from Chi cago, 111. Entertainment was pre sented by the Portland auxiliary pf Postal Notes. . ; Coming Events Planned By Wagner Creek Clubs Talent Wagner Creek Sew ing club will meet at the school house at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. July 1. The evening will be spent mending for a resident of the neighborhood who is ill, and any interested woman in the ter club of Medford, and the j vicinity is invited to attend. Rogue River den were also rep resented. G. W. Newberry, a past presi dent of the Medford den, com pleted 21 years of perfect week ly attendance at Lions club ac tivities, with his presence at the meeting. " - Medford Couple Bridge Winners Mr. and Mrs. George Rode took first place in the weekly session of Medford Duplicate Bridge club Tuesday night. The two scored 101Vi points. , Second went to Mrs. R. J. Con roy and Mrs. W. W. Stevenson, who scored 97 points, and third went to Mrs. Frank R, Baker The Community club will meet for a pot luck supper, July 11. Following the supper will be a short program and election of officers. The Youth club has cancelled and Marvin Kahn with a score of 91V points. Fourth place winners were Mrs. Paul Hatton and Roy Pru itt, 82 Vt points, and fifth went to Mrs. Fred Rehling and Mrs. Aubrey Sander for points. The B. L. Sandersons took sixth with 791 points. The next meeting will be Saturday, July 19. Zuleima Temple To Hear Reports; Appointment Made Mrs. P. H. Stansbury, Ash land, queen of Zuleima temple, Daughters of the Nile, will re port on the supreme session at a meeting of the temple to be heloV Saturday, June 28, in Med ford Masonic temple at 2 p.m. The supreme session was held recently in Portland and Mrs. Thomas Luke, Portland resi dent, was . elected supreme queen. Mrs. Stansbury will tell of the appointment of Mrs. C. L. Ogle, Grants Pass member of. the Zu leima temple, to the office of supreme chaplain. Mrs. Ogle was installed on" the last day of the supreme session, June 19, when Mrs. Luke ascended the Nile throne. The installation' cere monies were held at the Port land Ice arena in an elaborate floral and oriental setting. The Nile has temples 'in the United States, Canada and Hawaii. Tomorrow's meeting will be followed by a tea with Mrs. Ralph Krows, chairman, assist- Shown in a seen from "Suspect," Foollighter play being pro duced this week at the group's little theater on the fairgrounds. are'Lenore Zapell (seated) and Ruth Kilbourn. Mrs. Zapell stars In the play as Mrs. Smith, suspected of having committed a brutal murder many, years ago, and Miss Kilbourn plays the servant whose testimony saved her employer from conviction. The play continues each night through Saturday, with curtain time at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale at Jhe door. i JSl - jkP the electric cooking demonstra tion at the new Lyon Kitchen planning center, 39 South Grape street, all day Saturday.- Mrs. Wells, who has been with Copco 25 years, is an authority on cooking and kitchens. She will answer questions and help solve kitchen and cooking problems during the demonstration. Cook ed samples will be served during tne day.
